if I have a front mount intercooler on my mk7.5 GTI, will I have room to mount this exact oil cooler next to it or would it have to be mounted in front of my intercooler. when it comes to oil changes and running this oil cooler the filter still sits on top correct? without having to remove the sandwich plate. contemplating about purchasing one if it will fit with my fmic

Thanks for another DIY fellas! Been real curious on the install of this.. it's on the list and would match well with all the other racingline bits on the car. I could definitely use the lower temps and more capacity, paired with a bigger pan those temps should definitely drop a noticeable amount!

I just got Stoptech brake kit 2 weeks ago and thanks to Paul’s brake install videos, I was done with the full install of all 4 rotors and pad sets in like an hour and a half. Love it!

    3 Questions:
    1) I live in New England and mostly daily drive my S3. Would this be okay to run in the winter or would I need to pull it off? Would getting a thermostatic sandwich plate (Provided the kit doesn't come with one) solve this issue?
    2) I regularly see 218-230 temps on the highway and around town. Is that too high?
    3) The metal filter is like $50 dollars every time, how often should it be replaced? Is there any alternatives? Is there a cloth/paper filter of the same size?

Wish I could find what the original cooler looks like, Google only shows me the upgrade kits like this one. Need to have the cooler and waterpump replaced at once.
Found quite a bit of oil on the coolant and then started getting a coolant leak under the car followed by Check Coolant warning on dash.
No coolant in oil, no smoke from tail, no overheating.
Having owned and daily driven the Mk7 GTI for 5 years now, it's a absolutely great drive but be prepared to replace waterpump/thermostat every 12 months, be prepared to get coolant leaking from random hoses. Those are the Only major issues but they are so consistent that my advice would be buy a cheap Toyota. Also, keep a savings account for DSG issues along the line, your clutches are going to go. And they are expensive.
One amazing thing is the consumption, I get 5L/100km when I'm driving behaved which is great for the power available.
