  • This video was originally recorded by Giovanni Di Federico on a hard-to-find Facebook page he runs which only Italians or Italian bagpipe fans will ever find. Trying to make a wrongly-kept secret known by uploading this to reach out to wider audiences because nobody would otherwise know how insanely cool Italian bagpipes are..
This instrument was made by one of the most famous Italian bagpipe makers throughout Italy as a whole, the legendary Antonio Forastiero (March 15, 1929 - May 22, 2022).
Not familiar with Italian bagpipes? I encourage you to download this plain text dictionary I put together about these instruments. You will seriously learn a ton of things you never knew, and I don't want this to be entirely secret so this is my best way of getting the word out. This link will be updated whenever future modifications to the dictionary are made, so if you don't have the latest version, no worries. Last updated: 12/31/2023

For some strange reason I can picture John Cale using this instrument on album, amazing never new this was a thing.

That's super cool. If you look at the description I linked to a dictionary about these instruments so that it's no longer a wrongly kept secret that isn't meant to be secret. I'll have to look up John Cale. I know that one piper wrote a piece for 15 zampogne, "The Moving Lung" (translated), inspired by John Cage, so I know of Cage but not Cale. Also, honestly I've never learned how to actually video-record so I'm taking it from a Facebook page and the original person who recorded it doesn't really care, he won't understand English (I use Google Translator for everything).

You're welcome. If you want to know more, feel free to look at a dictionary I made about these instruments. It's a wrongly kept secret that I'm trying not to keep secret and spread it all out to as many people as possible.

What a cool instrument and awesome performance. Theses pipes really contrast Irish pipes quite a bit. I quite like them. I mean I like Irish pipes too but... Anyway

Is there a bigger one ?

Yes, there is an "8 palmi". Feel free to download the dictionary link in the description so you know what 'palmi' means. Each long palmi is worth 26.5 centimeters, each short palmi is 25.

A tarantella ( I assume ). The kind of thing usually played on the melodeon, as far as I knew.... This groove is as good as it gets, you are doing a great
    job here !

@@michaelkazmierskidunn7189 I know it's not you, that's the point. If it was you I'd never have seen it. This is the best bagpipe track I've ever heard. I'm a bit of a fan of the simpler the better, to be honest, and a killer groove doesn't need millions of notes or fancy ornaments ( is that " insane ornaments " ? ) just a great sound. I don't usually sub but I'm doing that now, and I haven't even looked to see what else you've got yet!

@@PIPEHEAD Thanks. You'll also find me reacting to some rare vocally hot opera singers who don't have your typical ear-piercing wobble vibrato which sadly constitutes up to 90 percent of the world's sopranos, tragicly. Take 150 versions of "O Mio Babbino Caro" for instance, 140 of them have nasty wobbly vibratos and only 10 of them have more heartfelt expression, a more addictive vibrato and don't show signs of age. I still have a few I haven't reacted to yet. For those ones however, since I'm never good at video, I use a site to upload an MP3 to YOutube and it makes a black image 'cause, well, I'm blind. Why have an audio-only site that's NOT FREE when there's UA-cam which IS free?

@@michaelkazmierskidunn7189 I just mentioned howling sopranos to somebody yesterday, another case of needing to be loud. I generally say opera is the only kind of music I can't stand, but I will definitely check that out, I am already convinced you know what you're talking about ..........

I AGREE!!!!!!!!! Like I pointed out in the description, feel free to download that dictionary which will teach you EVERYTHING you've ever wanted to know about these. Ever. Sorry if it looks too unimpressive, keep in mind I'm blind / visually impaired so formatting doesn't mean anything to me. Hate to say it but if you want it to look prettier I'll need to ask someone sighted to frill it up. Also, I've never learned how to actually video-record as a blind person so I'm taking it from a Facebook page and the original person who recorded it doesn't really care, he won't understand English (I use Google Translator for everything).

This is cool and all, but why does UA-cam recommend this to me out of seemingly nowhere? So curious...
