i personally love the audio it makes it feel like a classic kung fu movie.
i personally think other companys should try crowd funding with certain series i bet breath of fire would get backed really quick or a legend of dragoon hd remaster or sequel.
I’m not gonna lie but every time I hear the overly compressed voices really make me happy. Idk I think it’s like you said, it feels like a really old film.

Love the video I personally picked up mine today as well for the PS4 I love it even though it’s a clunky open world game. Compared to modern open world games like Horizon zero dawn or Whitcher 3.

Always wanted to play Shenmue back when I had the Dreamcast. Started playing today. The HD remaster is sufficient for me. But I keep switching the language english to japanese and back. What language would be best to play both games? Japanese or dubbed? The dubbing is comical though. The voice audio seems like it is recorded on a bad mic.

I've never owned an Xbox so that means I've never played crazy taxi 3 or panzer dragon Orta or Jet set radio future. And never will unless they release a collection or something.
The reason why sega ran out of business was because they didn't market the game. I can guarantee that if they marketed it like Final Fantasy VII, Sega hardware would be on shelves today.
Nah, in order for Shenmue to be profitable it would have needed an attach rate of over 1:1...the game's budget went way way over.

got my ps4 copy of shenmue today. I'm playing it for the first time and I'm really enjoying the game. It has a charm to it that i really like. I like the story of revenge the characters are interesting it has a good open world combat is fun I can see why it was ahead of its time.

Still own Shenmue 1 and 2(EU) for the Dreamcast and Shenmue 2 on the Xbox. Shenmue is so awesome I still had to get the Shenmue 1 and 2 for Xbox One as well!
Shenmue 3 is the only reason Im going to evetually buy the current gen console. This is also one of the games I think showed that Dreamcast was a real deal. I know that even now porting it is a great idea. Im certainly going to buy them

Revisiting this vid, and agree with all your points, Shawn. Shenmue is a game--changer, hands-down. Mind you, I am completely and utterly biased with Shenmue, but that's because the game literally changed my life. Back when I was 15, I was a socially awkward kid with no social skills whatsoever. By seeing how Ryo interacted with people in both Yokosuka and Hong Kong, and the interpersonal relationships he had, as well as all the disciplines he learned along he way, they instilled in me things that I carry to this day.
For that....I can never thank Shenmue enough. Thank you, Suzuki-san.

Agreed. Sega definitely needs to become aware that people still REALLY want to play their old ips, whether for the first time or revisiting them. I would love to see Sega release a Jet Set Radio, Super Monkey Ball and a Panzer Dragon collection later on down the line.

These youtube guys crack me up with these Shenmue reviews. I played it tons and remember it vividly, and it's amazing how many false details I've already seen about this new re-release. Dreamcast guy completely lied about the forklift racing and said it was an optional thing where you set your alarm early. ( BS). Now a guy I highly respect and like who said he played it a million times is saying that at the beginning of the game, you literally see your father being " strangled" when nothing remotely close to that happens. Maybe I'm just too much of a purist, but these mistakes are silly and just simply not true.
W H yeah it's true.. Dreamcast Guy said that at the start the men in the Dojo were taking turn beating up your farther.. I don't recall that.. I recall it being a one on one battle.. They is nothing wrong with what you are saying like you I noticed it straight away and you would know if you was such a big fan which they are both clearly not..
Even if a few things are skewed, at least they recommend and get a hyped tone behind a recommendation to get it out. I remember a time a time when I literally knew no one who even remotely knew of the series lol.
Dreamcast guy as a fraud. I've caught him lying about a lot of things in games. He brags about playing 60+ games a year, but he never beats a damn one of them. So he previews and reviews content without ever actually playing all of it.
Tbf dream cast guy showed me that ryo can actually play outrun in the haxzuki House which is a much more slender detail

I played them both on the Dreamcast. I hated myself for selling all my dreamcast and games, but I have purchased everything back from ebay. 😉 I am wanting to finish the story by playing the 3rd installment.
Man I absolutely love this game. I waiting on my remake to arrive on Thursday from Amazon. I never play Shenmue 2 so I’m absolutely stoked about this. I’m glad to have found your channel & I hope you keep me up to date on anything new with Shenmue!

I think all the response to this game really shows how appreciated it is. It's cult status has kept it alive for decades. SEGA really was the greatest game company of all time. It's a pity the made so many mistakes and restructured themselves so many times that they not only lost site of what they where, but also become such an entirely different enity. I miss SEGA...
Don't forget to mention it was the most beautiful game of the world at its time and the most realistic the most ambitious. Just look at GTA 2 at the same time... Yu SUZUKI is a genius. Now it s time for SEGA to make Money with resurecting old IP s they dropped even if We have to have A SHENMUE Kiwami/ Remake before SHENMUE 4 ( Yes SHENMUE 4. I want SEGA to continue the Serie after SHENMUE3 and never let Yu SUZUKI alone again never... (Sorry for my English)
I just purchased Part 1 and 2 Remastered versions as a bundle pack discounted for $4.49 in the Playstation Store on my Playstation 5. I already own Part 3, but it's also currently discounted for $2.99 their discounts will end on 3/16/23. They might be discounted on other systems, but I can't confirm that, sorry.

He also says HD textures... the textures used here are the same as the original Dreamcast versions. Its literally just all running in 1080p. But not new HD textures themselves.

Why i got iritated enough to be critical is if i didnt know about different control setups, the old tank controls would have been a turn off for me since i already own the originals. It was complete misinformation.

and for those that have an Xbox1, dont forget the huge backwards compatible library you can download from the store (or use your disc and just upload an upgrade for FREE) Today Xbox has kept Sega alive. Sonic All Star Racing Transformed (the best version with extra added stuff) Panzer Dragoon Orta, Sonic Generations, heck Ill throw in a Hydro Thunder, just because it reminds me of Dreamcast, and is a whole new fantastic version....Ooops I forgot to mention, today is Shenmue day.... (NO NINTENDOS ALLOWED!!)
Great video man. I was blown away as a teenager when I first bought shenmue and played it on my Dreamcast. A game ahead of its time and a true classic!

There is no way I wasn't getting this game. These are two all time classics. Two of the best games ever made. I'm having such a fun time looking for where sailors hang out and buying little Sega figurines out of 100 Yen machines.
i played this game during the dreamcast days and its really outstanding. no other game comes close to it. I just bought shenmue 1 and 2 for ps4 and definitely will play both game before playing the 3rd installment which will be release nov 19, 2019. almost 20 of years of waiting.....finally.....Yu Suzuki thank you and to all fans who made the kickstarter possible.

We who are already fans need to keep pushing for more fans, the more new fans we get, the better our chances are of seeing Shenmue 4.
Shenmue was one of the 1st 3D games I ever played besides Sonic Adventure and Tomb Raider IV Last Revelation on SEGA Dreamcast. I beat the first Shenmue, but never got to play the second because it got released on xbox and I only had a PS2. So finally, I can played the 2nd game before the 3rd one releases.
I'm having a blast playing both games. I finished the first one a month ago and now I'm playing the second one
One of the best additions to this collection is the built in save option. I loved these two games during their original release ,but one of my complaints. With Shenmue 1 was saving the game Lan Di wasn't the main antagonist. On the Dreamcast it was Ryo's save room.
I still remember making progress in the game, and then going back. To Ryo's home to save thinking to myself "please save my file". There were times when it didn't save, and when that happened. It mean't I had to start over my game from the beginning again.
One bit of misinformation in this video: the textures aren’t HD. They are the original, low-resolution Dreamcast textures. Same with the models. The HD Collection doesn’t even use the improved textures and models from Shenmue II on Xbox. However, the resolution is now HD, and the antialiasing is far superior to the Xbox antialiasing and the complete lack of anti-aliasing on Dreamcast, which makes the textures look much better.
*EDIT:* Shenmue II uses the superior Xbox models, but Shenmue I doesn’t.

I think Shenmue covered the first chapter, the second chapter was written as a comic strip which was included with the Xbox release of Shenmue II, and Shenmue II covered chapters 3, 4, and maybe 5? So there’s still another couple of games to come I’d say.

Wow feels like yesterday when i went into Game to buy Shenmue. Blew me away at the time, I doubt ill get it again now unless it releases on the Switch.
This game has some of the best music ever written. There is an orchestrated version of the soundtrack that will blow your mind especially if you own a decent hifi system.

Never thought the long intros were a problem. But I just caught myself clicking off the video after the intro thinking I was done watching. I'll bet if u check statistics you'll see a spike click off after the intro.
Originally picked this game up back in December 1999 working at Electronics Boutique and back then when Shenmue 2 released and didn't get a US release EB actually did a preorder for the European version in stores and all my co-workers, a couple regulars and I all pre-ordered it. What amazing and genre defining games they were and going back and playing them know I really enjoy them. Just finished playing Shenmue again absolutely loved it now I am getting ready to go through Shenmue 2 and 3 again.
