rivers writes the best songs when he's in physical pain (leg lengthening surgery, bus accidents, etc.) and this song acknowledging that fact happens to be one of his very best. i wonder whats ailing him now...

Idk about this one but it's been confirmed he twisted his ankle and was in terrible pain when he recorded the vocals for "taste like pain" and he finished" run raven run" while battling covid he even coughs at the end of the song.
Rivers is just always making amazing songs when he’s in some sort of pain, and seems to make just ok songs when he’s happy

I was so happy when I first heard this song. It sounds so much like the Blue-Pinkerton era. I really thought that sound was gone.

I don't usually pick a favorite song, they all have their own sound, but this song i find exceptionally good. Maybe i can relate to the lyrics more than i care to admit but the music is just awesome. I love this song. It's powerful.

I really can't help but hope Rivers is doing ok though, you can really hear the hurt and strain in his voice in this song
all the belting out he does and yet having it somehow feel like he's still holding a lot back? that's really something else, and don't even get me started on how soft the "right by your side" is
it's just like the calm before the storm while also just being a treat to listen to
I just had to come say something about it because this was one of the songs on this album that really stood out to me

It really isn’t. It has like one halfway decent song. The rest have around like 2 good songs each. So they all suck, lol.

I think there's about 5 decent tracks on both summer + autumn, but this ones 5 are way better. Get off/tastes like/raven will be on repeat for months
even if that's the case, winter sucks. most of the album are reused tracks- but the ones that aren't, their good I guess.

What does it mean "screwed it up to the Judas tree"
Judas hung himself after betraying Jesus, an innocent man. Matt 27:5-8, Acts 1:18-19
I'm speculating here, because literary references are common with Weezer, but there's also a 1961 Cronin novel called The Judas Tree, which involves a lot of screwing up with three different love interests ("I count to three"?), and the line "I ran away, right by your side" gives me bad relationship vibes, like the character is emotionally straying while still in a relationship with someone. And then they feel a lot of guilt and get really lonely, and sometimes when a person feels trapped in a bad situation they can't do anything to change for the better, they start to get off on the pain as a survival mechanism. This is just one interpretation though, I think it could be about other things. Oh, and there's also the Thomas Hardy quote in there, from a poem called "I Look into my Glass," which is about a person whose body is old but they still feel youthful passions, romantic desires. Aging is also a theme we've seen before in Weezer's music, the song "The Good Life" could be about the very same poem.
