Floor and Henk met on a Dutch show called Beste Zangers - he didn't know who she was and she was introduced as a metal band singer, which tends to lead people to make assumptions. She corrected everyone's misconceptions in the first show by singing him opera - Vilja Lied - which his mother used to sing as a professional singer. You can see in the episode his astonishment becomes delight, and then sheer joy and his eyes began to shine. Although Floor is not an opera singer, she can sing opera if she chooses to. That moment seemed to forge a friendship that endures.
Very nice summary! I’m only going to add (for the reactors) that Floor had seen Henk perform this on the Dutch stage as a teen, and it was *one* of the reasons she got into singing. She was definitely fangirling at times during the show! It was a beautiful thing to watch Henk’s admiration of Floor grow as the show progressed.

Also, Henk is one of the most highly regarded musical and opera singers of the Netherlands and was the „official“ Phantom in the Netherlands.

Mind that Henk is doing some distorted vocals here for the very first time in his life! Floor has had her breast cancer surgery 6-8 weeks prior to this event. She must have given everything for that last note.
I stayed in the same hotel as the band. I stood on the elevator with Floor, Irene and their father just after the first show in Amsterdam. She was absolutely exhausted. Somehow felt bad for her so didn't want to bother them.

Henk Poort was a idol of Floors as she grew up. She asked him to sing with her on a Euro TV show, he said OK if I get to sing with Nightwish and this performance was the fulfilment of that...the crowd did not know this was going to happen at this concert.

The other performance, with Tarja, was performed in 2005. With this performance, from just a few months ago, Nightwish had not performed 'Phantom' in 18 years since performing it with Tarja. The gentlemen singing with her, Henk Poort, a Dutch opera singer and performer has said that he will only ever perform 'Phantom' with Nightwish

At 69 years old, I have been a life-long music fan and occasional amateur rock musician. In decades of listening to music, I have never been as impressed in a band as I am Nightwish, and no other lead singer comes as close to perfection as Floor. Thanks for reacting to them.
Henk Poort performaned the Phantom since 1993. Andrew Lloyd Webber once said that Henk is THE Phantom. Floor met her childhood idol Henk at the dutch TV show 'Beste Zangers' in 2019 where they premiered their duet and due to popular request she promised him to invite him on Nightwishes World Tour (which the obviously did).

Floor husband Hannes Van Dahl is Swedish. He plays drums Swedish band Sabaton. Henk is very good friend. Both are Dutch.
Floor is my favorite singer period, not just for Nightwish. I believe she can do anything vocally she chooses, and she is the most humble and sweet person about it all.

And to contemplate that Floor just recovered from cancer surgery not too long prior to this. Amazing woman!! Floor's husband is Hannes van Dahl, drummer for Swedish metal band Sabaton, another act you will probably enjoy visiting at some point. They write songs mostly devoted to military historical events, and they keep the history accurate. They also have a Sabaton History channel where they discuss more details of the actual event. I have heard that some history teachers use Sabaton's music as a teaching device in high school classes to keep students interested in the topic. If you check them out, there is a very special surprise for you hiding at the very end of one of their best, most popular, big-budget video productions. So watch all theirs to the very end. Don't cut off early or you'll miss it. Let the credits roll! (🤭 I won't spill the beans on the secret. It'll be more fun if you find it yourselves. As you learn more about Floor, you will come to see that she is so very different from the diva-like, dysfunctional personalities we find among most of our homegrown American entertainers. She is a true, kind, sweet, humble, and genuine human being. Many, many of us here in the self-named Nightwish Army have had the honor of meeting Floor in person and shaking her hand. The difference between Tarja and Floor is quite simply that Tarja was, and remains, an exceptionally talented vocalist. Floor, on the other hand is a vocalist and performer that comes along once in 50 years... a female Freddy Mercury... she has no peers at this time.
I saw them a few weeks ago life. Floor had several surgeries in the months before, including one for breast cancer and was in her 7th month. Never missed a note. The woman's stamina and strength to overcome adversity is off the charts. I've been to quite a few concerts, but that one was easily the best.

Breaking --------Nightwish just announced that they had to cancel their show tonight in Oslo and start their break from touring early due to Floor's health. They said her baby is fine ......Floor is 7 months pregnant and that Floor was totally exhausted and needed some rest. On a positive note Nightwish announced the band will be rehearsing in a few weeks time to record their new album.
At the time of this Dec 2022 concert, Floor had just beaten breast cancer, and was a tiny bit pregnant with her 2nd child! Her husband is Hannes Van Dahl, the drummer for Swedish metal band, Sabaton.
Floor continued on the Nightwish world tour til just last week, even touring a few months for her solo album, in between Nightwish dates! Thankfully she's gone home to rest b4 baby arrives.

Henk Poort was the original Dutch Phantom of the Opera with over 1000 performances and was a favourite of Andrew Lloyd Webber. Floor was taken to see him when she was a girl and became a huge fan. Henk was why Floor went on Beste Zangers and they became fast friends during the run of the TV show. He has made several duets with Floor including Dangerous Game from Jekyll and Hyde and Henk toured with Floor when she did her solo tour of the Netherlands after the Beste Zangers TV series. Floor has a UA-cam channel (Floor Jansen) where she released a lot of content and covers during Lockdown. Well worth a look.
Floor a High or Lighter Soprano, Tarja is a full Lyric Soprano "Deeper and Darker" , Floor and Tarja are Friends and have Worked together, Some will say they are not because "Tarja" was not at Floors Wedding, The Most Likely Reason was that Nightwish Band Members were there and they have some bad feelings from after the 2005 event after the Concert You Reviewed Phantom of the Opera the first time on this channel. That Story is Complex, Heart Braking for Tarja and the Band. I have seen Floor and Tarja on a Pod Cast and they seen to be good Friend. They both are of Very High Skills and Talent, but Sing and have a different Stage Presences. Floor has said in the Past that She was Inspired by Tarja in her Early Years. This is not to defend Tarja, but she is Part of Nightwish's History from the Beginning and should not be discounted because of the Break in 2005. Most of the Eary Music written by Tuomas was for Tarja's Voice, The Voice of His former Childhood Friend. Floor knew of Henk before Best of Zangers show, but he did not know of Her. They are Good Friends and have worked together on a Few Projects outside of Nightwish. Tarja has had a Solo Career and has Worked with the Scorpions and Within Temptation with Sharon Den Adel.
If you see the two often, you can tell them apart. Floor doesn't have black hair, it's dark brown. But you don't always see that on stage.
The band had accused the "T-One" of the F* attitude, among other things. It also makes up part of their singing. Without the F* it wouldn't be Tarja.
Floor is much more down-to-earth these days. But she only learned that through a burnout. She is a workaholic and used to put pressure on herself and those around her. That's why she sings so seemingly effortlessly. She only stops exercising when it sounds like it. In contrast to the past, today she is willing to make mistakes and working with her is praised.
Henk and Floor are not singing together for the first time and have visited each other's concerts. They met on a TV show where they sang Phantom as a duet for the first time. Henk's condition was that they do it with Nightwish too. But the implementation took a long time.
Well done ladies - and don't worry - you ain't seen nothing yet.... Floor's range and power are much more than this and Ghost Love Score!!!
By the way - in that show 'Beste Zangers 2019' - Floor made the other contenters cry their hearts out, a couple of times - including Henk Port! - she is that powerful.

As others have mentioned, both versions are great and both are very much worth the watch. There is no right or wrong. And make no mistake, Tarja (pronounced Tarya) is a force. She may lack some of the versatility that Floor brings, but Tarja is a phenomenal singer and performer. There are some Nightwish songs where I prefer Tarja over Floor and vice versa. The same can be said for Anette Olzon. All 3 singers have their place and have made their contributions to the band.
I recently saw Tarja in concert and she put on an amazing show. She was very present, engaging, energetic and seemed to be having a great time. I have also seen Nightwish in concert (with Floor) and can say that they are a must see if the opportunity presents itself!

first time Floor saw Hank. was when he performed the Phantom of the opera. She was 14/15 years old at that time. And has been a Fan of him ever since.

its not a show about who is best its a show about celebrating diverse music. there usaly are 6 singers fom different genres, gender and age. from rock to opera to you tube singing.
the last shows of the season they sing duets and floor asked Henk to sing the Phantom of the opera. he said yes but only if he got to perform it on stage with her when the band visited the Netherlands ( they speak Dutch there) (not to be confused with German )
The Beste Zangers 2019 version is the best, that's when Henk Poort and Floor Jansen first time performed it. Also if you want to hear Floor Jansen really singing in Opera style, react to "Nightwish - Shoemaker" - the last third of the song she sings solo totally awesome in Opera Style, leaves one with mouth open..
Hank was in an original production of Phantom years ago... and pleeeease continue to dive into the Floor version of Nightwish rabbit hole.. the official live 2013 concert at Wacken ... the songs Storytime, Romanticide , Song of myself and soooo many more with Floor.. its such an experience... you will love it....

As other have said, Floor was a fan of Henk, for a long time, they appeared on a TV show together and did this. Henk wanted to do it live with Nightwish, so this came about live, to the audience surprise. On the TV show, Henk sings a cover of The Sounds of Silence to Floor, (poor Floor is fangirling so bad it's gorgeous). Henk does a brilliant cover of it.
Tarja, Floor, and Henk are all amazing singers. But the thing that sets the 2005 version apart in my opinion is Marko. The others all sing a more or less straight stage version of their characters. Some variation in tone and audience engagement, and Henk even adds some grit that wasn't there before. But Marko shrieking along with Tarja and matching her in the upper registers is like no Erik I ever heard before or since.

quick recap (most of this is public )she was DXed with breast cancer in October surgery was around Oct she had aprox 2 or 3 weeks recovery first time on stage November 20 2022 this was November 27 2022 as far as what is known the Nightwish Army is aware she had radiation in January 2023 just to keep cancer free and then went on a crusie and sang just as well she then went on a cruise and last month she sang this with Henk poort in may while expecting her 2nd child
Yes, their first singer, Tarja - pronounced TAH-ree-ah, liked to think of herself as the centre / most important person in the band. Her singing style was very operatic. Floor can sing like that if she wants to, but prefers a bigger range of styles/genres. Floor just captures our souls with her power, charisma, vocal control, stage presence, and some sort of Valkyrie magic. The most important person, only fractionally more important than Floor, is Tuomas, as he writes 95% of the music.
Tarja's operatic style was a huge factor in putting Nightwish on the map, and her contribution all those formative years can't be overstated, but that center of attention attitude you picked up on, you're not wrong. There's also another singer in between Tarja and Floor, Anette Olzon, who had her moments, but in the long run wasn't a good fit. Floor really helped the band realize a renaissance. The other members even play better with her with them.
Floor has a background in musical theatre with classical training that included Opera. Tarja is more of the clasical opera, or lyrical, singer.
Henk played the Phantom in the dutch production of the Phantom of the Opera and is very familiar with the role.
You can see another version with Henk and Floor on the Dutch tv show Beste Zangers. It was there Floor promised he could join her on stage with Nightwish.
You should check out some of her solo work on the show, covers she produced at home during C19 and from her recently released solo album, My Paragon. Especially the title track, which has a great video with 2 young actors playing her at various ages. It is a very empowering song for women.

Tarja and Floor are like the immovable force against the invincible object, either way you choose is your decision. I've never seen it done better and I went to see "Phantom" in it's infancy back in 1988 when I was 17 in LA. And that's when it was done by the OG's Sarah Brightman and Michael Crawford. Tarja and Marko brilliant, Floor and Henk brilliant as well. In my eyes I will not choose. Enjoy my darlings!🌹🌹🌹
Floor and Henk both took part in the 2019 Dutch Tv Series Beste Zangers (Best Singers). Not a competition but a group of top musicians who take turns at being the "Guest on the Couch" .The other singers pick a song from the guests own original songs or a song that holds a particular memory.
Floor "fan girled" a bit because she had grown up admiring Henk playing in the Phantom and his singing career.
For Henk she sang Vilia Lied (an opera song but with a rock twist) in return Henk when it was Floors night sang the Disturbed version of Simon and Garfunkles "Sound of Silence". To do that he had to learn to distort his voice which as an opera singer is the kind of thing that would see you kicked out of an audition. The mutual respect they have for each other is obvious. Floor promised Henk that if they sang "The Phantom" at the end of the series together when the singers pair up for duets, he could sing the song with Nightwish. Worth checking out that clip and the rest of the singers on that series (another rabbit hole to go down)

I was there to watch this performance live, it was a gift from my family on my 40th birthday.
Me and my wife flew from Sweden to Amaterdam for the weekend and man what a weekend it was! The concert was pure magic, nothing could have prepared me for that emotional ride.
And I can tell you, Floors voice live is even better than in these recordings. There is a piece of her soul in her singing that makes the experience hearing it extra emotional.
And what makes it even more special is that Nightwish hadn’t performed this somg live since the time when the video you reacted to last time were shot. We the fans have waited 17 years for it and the atmosphere in that building was simply unbelievable!
So if you ever get a chance to see them live, go for it! You won’t regret it and it will be a memory that will stay with you forever.

You pretty much nailed the personalities of the two singers. Tarja became a diva and was fired after the concert you watched. She told them she was quitting after the next album. They preempted that. She has a successful solo career. Floor is a High Sensitive and a very down to earth person. She lives deep in the woods in Sweden with her husband (drummer of Sabaton), her daughter (another baby on the way), dogs, cats and horses. It's sort of a house/farm/stable thing. She says that after touring, which she loves, she needs a place that is peaceful and relaxing. 😊🤘

With her husband, Hannes Van Dahl (drummer for metal band, Sabaton), they filmed a bit of their life in Sweden. Then Floor started doing covers ( some with Henk). Some of the arrangements for her covers were done by guitarist and vocalist Tommy Johansson from Sabaton. FYI Tommy is a force unto his own...a very talented man and worth you following up on his personnal UA-cam Channel. He has a Christmas album that is awesome...no elevator Christmas music!

Another great reaction. I love this performance but my favorite is definitely their performance on Beste Zangers, a Dutch singing show. In that performance they use a brighter version of the Nightwish arrangement and Floor uses a more musical theater vocals. Here she is using more rounded vowels to get that dark operatic sound and she uses more of her head voice. On Beste Zangers she has brighter tone, the pacing is a little quicker and she plays with using her mixed voice and creating runs in different parts. I find it much more expressive. Plus the smaller, intimate stage allows her and Henk to really play off of each other. If only for yourselves please checkout that performance as well. One of the crazy things about the Beste Zangers show is that before it Floor was practically unknown in her home country of the Netherlands. Metal music is not very popular there, which makes it crazy that so many great metal bands come from there (Epica, Within Temptation, BlackBriar, Delain, Ayreon, The Gathering, Stream of Passion, Mayan and Floor's previous bands Revamp and After Forever) most of them fronted by amazing female singers (Anneke van Giersbergen, Simone Simons, Sharon den Adel, Zora Cock, Charlotte Wessels, Marcela Bovio). After the show was a household name in the Netherlands and opened a door for her to pursue a solo career alongside her work with Nightwish.
Try not to get sucked into the Tarja (Tar- ya) vs Floor angst. They are different people and different styles of singers, both great. Floor is a Highly Sensitive Person which allows her to connect more easily to the emotions of the music and to the fans and that translates into more emotional and connected performances. The show you saw with Tarja was her last with the band. Things had been deteriorating between the band and Tarja for some time so they were less connected then the band is nowadays. They were also quite young and not experienced in handling disagreements in a professional way. They fired her in a very public way right after the show via an open letter. Tarja responded with her own open letter explaining her side of things. Both letters are available on the Internet. She has gone on to an great solo career. Fans can usually divided into three groups. Tarja fans who are loyal to her and feel the need to tear down Nightwish and any singer that came after her, Floor fans who love her work more then necessarily Nightwish's work (usually found her via her solo work first), and Nightwish fans who love the band and all three female singers. The latter is definitely the majority of fans. We may have favorites but we appreciate and enjoy all three singers.
Once I started down the Nightwish rabbit hole I realized that Floor is much better suited for the band than Tarja. Floor's vocal range is better, her stage presence is so much better and the way she supports the band is much better suited for them. She also sings in other languages and can sing Opera, Metal, Pop and can Growl (metal)... plus plus plus... She is very versatile. Enjoy the ride as you get deeper into Nightwish with Floor and her other performances with bands such as Epica, etc.
I disagree, Tarja and Floor are equally amazing and versatile, and their stage presence IS magical! Nightwish was lucky to have had them both as singers and part of the band. Also Floor and Tarja have been good friends for ages and they love and respect each other as artists and as human beings.

She really only has one style of singing (which she does great) but Floor is much better fit for NightWish, as she can adapt her vocals to the style that best works for the song.
@@randomman4938 You obviously haven't heard Tarja as much as Floor. Otherwise you would know how versatile and with how many different styles Tarja can sing. Also when she was with Nightwish, Tuomas wanted her to primarily sing in a certain way (operatic), it was not her choice so much at that Time. In some of The songs she did use her voice differently even then. Nowadays she uses her voice very creatively and versatively.

Floor is definitely more of a band member - she loves all band members and love to work together with them. That was not the case with Tarja.
So, where to begin with Floor...
My journey with Nightwish starts in 1998 when they release their 2nd album and my musical forum for powerful and progressive metal music starts talking about this Finnish band fervently. Nightwish enters my musical world with full force, creating something absolutely unique in the metal world. Tarja reigns supreme here. Some metalheads though react to her as a cat wailing and don't like Nightwish at all because of her voice... haha.
My journey with Floor starts in 2000 when her band After Forever enters my world with her debut album, Prison of Desire. What a powerhouse singer and great band! Just trust me on that one, hit play on the very first song and be absolutely smitten by this dutch band. Note the immaculate guest vocals by Sharon den Adel from Within Temptation (another band I discovered a few years earlier) in one of the songs.
Nightwish released the album Once back in 2004 and I contacted the band. As I am a concert promoter in Iceland the band sent over some promo material. I got their videos for Nemo and I wish I had an Angel and got them played on Icelandic TV. I did my best to promote this band in my country on the back of Once for 2 weeks straight being the most sold band in Europe in the Billboard Eurocharts. The album attained a platinum status in Finland 1 day after release and I remember when I was promoting it, it had already gotten 5xPlatinum sales in Finland.
Then they let Tarja go and broke many hearts (including mine) and I remember when they announced they were doing auditions for singers that I immediately thought of Floor back then! They went with poppy Anette though. Imagine my joy when they eventually did get Floor to join them in 2012. I'm sorry to say but Anette didn't match them at all in my opinion and I had given up on the band, especially after I watched them at Wacken in 2008 with Anette where she was absolutely dreadful and the band as a whole too.
Of course, Nightwish has never been a commercial band. This is probably the reason why the general music lover in USA has never heard of the band. Even though Once ruled supreme in 2004 in the European music charts. And that fact pretty much also goes for the general public in Europe even. Nightwish isn't exactly commercial radio music. So, Floor, being Dutch, back in 2019 when she joined the Dutch Beste Zangers TV show, she was an unknown to the majority of Dutch people. You know, just another metal singer... And then The Netherlands got to know her and rocketed her to stardom in her country.
Tarja (Ta ya). Although she didn't know it at the time, she was fired after that concert in 2005. It wasn't all her fault, but she had said "If I left Nightwish, the band would end". Clearly that didn't happen. Even with the very different singer Anette, NW moved on. Tarja had married and she no longer felt the band was her world. The band had started bickering about that. This would also be the end of Anette eventually. Floor came in around the time that band members were all getting girlfriends and understanding that they could hire people to handle band business - but these people also annoyed Marco and it didn't help his depression. He left for his own good. I don't think NW should have left the male vocal gap empty. Troy has a good voice, but he isn't Marco and Floor will strain her voice trying to hold up both ends. NW needs another strong male vocalist or even negotiate to use prerecorded audio/video of Marco to fill in.
There you go! As others have stated, Floor and Henk met on the Dutch TV show Beste Zangers (Best singers). Henk had been Floor's hero since her teen years. He was the original 'Phantom' in the Dutch productions. You are absolutely correct about Floor. In every interview or documentary, she comes across as someone that you'd like to be friends with, the huge talent aside. This is a short documentary leading up to and after the Tampere (Finland) 2015 show. Note that just after the 8 minute mark, you can see the switch flip and she turns from girl next door to metal Goddess. IMO the highlight from this show is the epic 22 minute performance of 'The Greatest Show on Earth'. Tarja was the original singer for Nightwish and has a more operatic voice and range. Floor has also a operatic voice but her range is much broader she can go from a growl, to a belt to a high note in the same breath. She was asked in a interview how did she developed her voice and range? Her answer was, “First years of a lot of practice and study, and it really helps to be blessed with lungs of a deep sea diver.” FYI- the concert that you saw with Tarja singing the Phantom of the Opera was the last concert that Tarja did with Nightwish she was fired from the band right after the concert was finished. It was in an open letter from Tuomas the founder and master composer for Nightwish and he new Tarja she was a childhood friend and he created the compositions and lyrics for her voice. I’m a very old Metal rock head and was drawn by the music, lyrics and voice of Tarja & the incredible talent of all the band members of Nightwish! I suggest you watch the Documentary of how Floor came to be in Nightwish it’s titled, “Please Learn the Setlist in 48 Hours.” It will give you a history of Nightwish\ Floor connection. @@572Btriode your right I stand corrected, but Tuomas was blamed by the fans for the dismissal . Me personally I didn’t blamed Tuomas or Tarja I felt their was fault on both sides. I confessed I never gave Annette Olsen a fair chance because I felt Tarja sound was Nightwish. Floor brought me back and is a great fit and to me and I personally feel she saved Nightwish. But I have gone back and listened to Annette and I can now see what her fans liked about her. I agree with Lelia about the demeanor of the 2 female vocalist, Floor does seem to be more down to Earth than Tarja and that last note she hit was incredible. I'm not a fan of metal or opera, but this performance was 🔥🔥🔥 ✌️

You hit the nail on the head with your thoughts on the differences between Tarja and Floor. I always felt Tarja had an arrogance about her and demanded to be centre of attention. Floor now is the centre of attention, but she doesn’t demand it. Everyone watches her because of her talent and humble personality. It’s difficult not to love her….

Floor and Tarja both awesome in their own right. Although I would say Tarja more operatic and Floor can do everything.
I've watched this version many times already, but each time I do I hear the now departed Marco(Tarja version), at the end going, "Well Alright"! Tarja is pronounced Tarya.

The most obvious difference between Tarja & Floor is that Tarja is 5ft 5in tall & Floor is 6ft tall. Also, Tarja is magnificent with a voice like Siren. However, Floor is majestic with the looks & the voice of a Valkyrie.
Floor is best thing that happened to nightwish,but tarjas and Marcos version of this can't be touched by nobody..I wish floor would have done this with Marco just once at least..great job!

For the complete backstory on how those two ended up on that stage together you will have to watch the entire season of a program called ' Beste Zangers' the 2019 edition. It is a show unlike anything you have ever seen, a group individually know artist gets together for a week and perform song for each other. one of the artists is guest of honor for the night and gets sung to and these can be their own songs or song with added value for them. in 2019 Show 1 Henk Poort was Guest and I believe show 4 was Floor. try to find the full shows including the talking parts in between songs, they do exist with subtitles.
Firstly Tarja had a fallout with the band and they felt she was the centre of attention according to the available online letter and Floor is an empath and is very caring person so i think you called it just perfectly very perceptive you are. To my knowledge they only played this song in Amsterdam, and had not really a lot of time to rehearse together either. 18 years without playing that song, Henk is not part of the band and only playing this in Amsterdam, pulling it off this way... That is quite something
