      I knew Scotland was in the British Isles, but I consider it separate in my rant sent to you.
      Though please don’t think that I’m a typical US citizen (when applied to the ones who are rude, ignorant and basically sleeping sheep. I know those type are everywhere, but I’m sure the US is seen having its own particular blend of the less than admirable human traits.
      THANK YOU for the personal note back to me; your Grace (though just because I subscribed) and you absolutely made my month (if not year) by writing: good lad Dann. Blessings; I can’t wait to hear more!

      Fascinating, but remember if remotely interested ~ reincarnation has a way of upsetting ALL Apple carts when perceiving this ongoing physical reality😆 I could tell u a few stories that upset ALL claimants to perceived GREATNESS via past life...Guess what, most of us have famous past lives thruout the millennium of Soul's sojourn down here in this physical reality. So what's one of my male past lives claims...lol? Well, I caddied @ Bill Kidd's Interlaken Country Club in Hopkins, MN for 6 years in my youth. Only later did I figure out who Mister Kidd was in one of his past lives...but that's another story😇 Anyway a certain now very famous bisexual caddy was murdered in Scotland after fathering a future king...I wonder who?🎶 Huuuu💙

I’ve always been interested in Mary Queen of Scots and seen all the movies and television shows about her that I can. Just before the pandemic I took a DNA test and found out (big surprise, but a pleasant one) that almost 70% of my DNA is from the UK, and of that 70% I am 29% Scottish. So I kind of feel related. I always thought the greatest tragedy about Mary of Scots was that from age 4 until adulthood she was raised in France to be a good consort to a French King, which left her woefully unprepared to navigate Scots politics. Granted that was never part of the original plan but it nonetheless played out. Her father and son on the other hand grew up in the midst of it and more or less learned to manage it to greater or lesser degrees.

    Thank you so much for uploading this video about Mary Queen of Scots, she's my favorite queen!! Also, I'm a Thai student studying in Scotland, and I love scottish history so much! By the way, why wasn't she popularly called Mary I of Scotland? This would've made it clearer that she was queen in her own right!

    • @ScotlandHistoryTours
      @ScotlandHistoryTours  3 роки тому +5

      Good question. I don't know the answer, though she was the only Queen in her own right, as opposed to a consort. Also she must be the monarch since the monarch is the monarch of the people. Compare Elizabeth Queen of England and Mary Queen of Scots

      @@ScotlandHistoryTours Ahhh, I see! Also isn't Margaret, Maid of Norway the other female Scottish monarch?

    • @davidmbrown4251

      Any king or Queen regnant of Scotland is King or Queen of Scots. Scottish kingship is of the people. The idea is that the king was primus inter pares. The first among the equals of his people, and crowned (at Scone) by the nobles of the country. This is to be contrasted with England where the king is monarch over the geographical area and the people are subjects. Perhaps a subtle difference, but a very important one. So calling her Mary 1st wouldn’t make sense in a Scottish context.

    • @davidmbrown4251
      @davidmbrown4251 3 роки тому +4

      The maid of Norway was never crowned dying only days after ascending to the throne on her trip back from Norway. William and Mary after 1689 ruled in tandem (as both were legitimately claimants) and Mary after William’s death. She was Mary II both of Scots and Mary II of England. Anne was another Queen of Scots. Technically, all British Monarchs are crowned on the stone of Scone. So. Victoria was a Queen of Scots, and so too is our current Queen Elizabeth I, Queen of Scots - and when, in 1953, she ascended, post boxes in Scotland with E II R on them were defaced by Scottish Nationalists. The Royal Titles Act of 1954(?)ish solved the problem because the English would otherwise have been confused.

      Since she was the only Queen of Scotland,
      named Mary, calling her Mary the first would seem pointless.

    You're a great talented story teller. I have a request which may be an interesting topic for you're consideration but of course I'm biased. My family is known as fighters here in Canada and my grandfather taught me the bagpipes so I did family research on Bell. I would like to see a video about the politics of "the last clan battle" The battle of Dryfe Sands. Appearently some Bells showed up and charged during the battle and helped to win it. If you find it an interesting enough topic no one else has covered it and it involves the Maxwells and Johnstones two great border names so people would watch it. My step mothers brother brought up that we Bells and Maxwells didnt get along historically, sarcastically of course at there wedding and noone got the reference except for me who had done some family history research. Anyways happy 2021 to you and I watch the videos. Great stuff man.

    The Guise family were key players in 16th century French Politics, and are fascinating in a Game of Thronesy- kind of way. It's tempting to think that they're where Mary got her habit of getting involved in plots from, as it was a definite family trait. They never seemed to be happy unless they were scheming to murder or overthrow their enemies.
