  • Have you ever wondered what it's like driving a team of four for the first time?
Well, hop onboard to see our very own Flying Vicar takes the reins with ALL of her miniature shetlands ('The Boys', Billy, Dougie, Angus and Bob) for the first time. She's driven them as singles, pairs and in a unicorn, but until now, never as a team of four.
In this video, you can watch Baz taking them out for the first time, some of Judith's first lesson on the reins and The Boys enjoying themselves in the river - featuring brand new summer-special camera angles, as seen on our Instagram channel, live a few weeks ago.

What an absolute hoot! Nothing quite as busy as tiny ponies. Great fun. Thanks for taking us for this drive.

It's all about subltlety, nuance and observation. I had a small insight with people. We, [and horses ],are all individual, EVERY DAY. What 'worked', with a 'horse' today, may well be different tomorrow. It is always about observation. We learned our times tables by rote. Numbers do not change. Personalities and circumstance does.
That is why we cannot talk about horse/human interaction by calculus or recipe. Barry has it in spades and teaches it. I am sick of people explaining their 'horse' problems through their own 'horsey' prism. It is sending horses [and dogs] back to 'pet' status. Barry, reminds us that the interaction is 2 way and rewarding. Pet horses feed a lot of pet dogs. Sadly! But that is the politically correct world we live in. ROADS were made to accommodate people, livestock and freight. THEY STILL SHOULD.
    Cheers,

Two year old comment but well said, right on the button there. I'm new to horsemanship, learning together with a colt I'm training and I'm amazed how dynamic & complex his character is, in the first few weeks training him I was looking at his changing moods each day - sociable one day following me around, keeping himself to himself the next, cheeky the next, a bit morose the next... I was initially relating all
those changes to what I was doing with him each day but I've learned now that, just like us, his mood changes from day to day regardless of what I do with him - obviously I can and do effect it, but he's got his own mind. One of the huge lessons he's teaching me is to not overthink things, to let things go and move on, don't try to analyse everything just keep going... I think he might have me trained in a year of two. 🍻
