Hello! I am starting the process of applying to Colleges for Technical Design in Theater and this process is really stressing me out! Since I am sending out my portfolio to multiple colleges I have to do a digital one. Do you have any more advice on this? This is all happening very fast but you seem like a really great resource!!

Honestly, for this kind of submission it sort of depends on what you are presenting. Design work and technician work can be presented pretty differently in this medium. For design work I would recommend using several slides each with a component of the design (research and paperwork) with a relevant show photo, and then a final slide with only show photos. Maybe two slides depending on the show. For tech work you can break the show down to the elements of the show. If you built parts of the set, dedicate a slide to a specific component with drawings, progress shots and a show photo. Remember you don’t have to include everything from every show. Labels are even more important in this medium than in a physical portfolio as well. I should probably do a video on this. 😊 Thanks for giving some incentive to dive into it! Hope this helps, feel free to reach out again if you have more questions, or you can contact me directly at daleapickard@gmail.com.
