One correction - Eurostar runs at 300km/h (186mph). It only reduces to 220km/h on the approach tunnels in/out of London St. Pancras station.

Gladys, would it have been cheaper to fly?
In most cases, yes. However, the train is more comfortable, it goes from city centre to city centre. So you cut out the stress of getting to and from the airport both ends (which costs). Check-in and security are streamlined, you don't need to be there silly early etc.
Are you still in the UK? are you possibly planning a trip to Scotland? :)
Actually, we're not in the UK anymore, but Scotland is definitely on our radar for future trips!
Note: you can book the Eurostar a lot cheaper than the prices mentioned here. Very much depending on when you travel, i.e. season and time of day.

Very easy to move around many countries around Europe. If you buy tickets 2 weeks or more in advance, it's super cheap. Do not purchase them same day, if you do flying will be better.

You actually can continue on to anywhere in Europe - AND THE SAME DAY (if you want) - I've done it.!!
This is how it's done - Firstly, you're hungry and need a break.
It so happens very conveniently that you have to change stations in Paris anyway.
So, instead of an expensive rubbish snack on the Eurostar, save your appetite (and your money) for your Paris break.
Check out a typical back street bistrot where the patron cooks the food him/her-self.
Some of the most memorable meals I've had have often been the cheapest.!!
The menu must NOT be in English - if its in English, it's not for the locals.
And it most likely will be second rate, and over-priced.
Afterwards, you then can take the metro to your onward terminal Station.
And you certainly won't want to snack any more, that's for certain - not after what you've just experienced!!, take it from me.
