One thing about reading eggs is that they allow access to all sorts of material that a parent may not approve of or may want to be there to give context or explanation. Yes, they have added parental controls so you can adjust the settings and restrict content if that is wanted/ needed. Some parents aren't super computer savvy. This may not be everyone's cup of tea.

@@wvfarmersdaughter I didn’t even know that! I assumed reading basic phonics wouldn’t have that risk. Thank you !

Have you used logic of English, Sonlight or the McGuffeys? Those are the three I’m debating between for K

@@themodernhomemaker I LOVE McGuffeys and everyone seems to love Logic of English. If you guys like games, Logic. I have mixed feelings about HBL. I have K and 1. Maybe 2 as well. For some reason so light always always seems complicated to implement for me. This could just be me. I like the books they have. Except the bible reader. Just found better, at least I think so. Personal preference perhaps :))

No to Logic of English. It was my first choice last year and I regret it. Kids who are natural at phonological and phonemic awareness skills (like identifying initial and final sounds, identifying number of syllables in words, identifying number of words in sentences, blending sounds, etc.) usually are the ones who could do both Levels A and B for kindergarten. If we were to go back to LoE for first grade, we would be still stuck somewhere between Lessons 6-9 of Level A. Measured Mom has some free resources if you think your child needs work on these skillset.
Maybe to Sonlight. But you are better off just getting Explode the Code A, B, C with the teacher's manual, Handwriting Without Tears without the wooden manipulatives, and later add Bob Books when you get to Level 1. You could make your own pre-writing and copywriting assignments. Sonlight/Bookshark basically modifies the order of ETC A, B, C, and takes a break from ETC to work on short vowel sounds. And then goes back to ETC. But the timing of this affected my kid's learning last year because during the holidays, my kid forgot a lot of it and we had to review it all over again for a month.
I have no experience with McGuffey readers but I heard that McRuffy Press is good.
If you look up Scarborough's Reading Rope, you will understand why @homeschoolshoppingchannel's kids thrived learning to read (even if it took a while...). She is teaching and reading to them breakfast, lunch, and snack times. She is giving them a feast of background knowledge, vocabulary, language structures, verbal reasoning, and literacy knowledge four times a day. Every All About Reading lesson is followed by a 20 minute read aloud every day. So whichever program you choose (and don't stress too much about it, just try to stick with it as long as you can sanely tolerate it), make sure to do 20 minutes/day. It will help your kid build that knowledge base.

With the right brain phonics you said you need the flash cards (the set of 40?) and the one book?
