    Every video and books that I’ve read have all said that these little trees are considered indoor plants, that being said, I’ve had my two Fukien trees indoors since day one and have never had a problem with them and I live in the northeast. I must them every day more so in the winter as my heat is on. They love humor. Anyway, all in all your video is a great one. Thank you!

    I was gifted a Fukien Tea bonsai recently, and after poring through countless articles and forums, your video has been by far the clearest and easiest to follow. Thank you so much for putting this together - your guidance has been invaluable! It appears as if you’ve gone on a posting hiatus, but I for one would love to see more of your tutorials :-)

      Thank you Michelle. You are right some new videos are long overdue. I will see what can be done. Enjoy your tree and good luck with it. Remember, they do not need a lot of care, but they do need consistent care. A little love each day goes a long way Thanks again. Popoa

    I just got my first bonsai for my birthday and I really do thank you for this video. Very straight forward advice and you explain slowly enough for me to actually be able to see and understand what you are doing. I'll be having a go at my first trim very soon!
    I do have a question on feeding though. My starter kit came with the food. How often do you recommend feeding and how much each time? I'm a bit worried about over feeding and watering but I'm really looking forward to developing the shape of the tree.

    I was wondering what you think about moss to keep soil moist? I got a bonsai as a gift and it came with moss, so I don’t know if I should keep it as is or change the soil to something similar to what you have. Any suggestions to someone with no plant experience?

    Lisa. Thanks for the kind words, we are glad to help. Feeding will vary from tree to tree and season to season so what I will tell you is rather generic.
    All our trees have high nitrogen time release pellets on them all year round. A commonly available brand is Osmocote. Add a fresh handful a few times a year.
    We also use a water soluble fertilizer made by Peter's that is a 20-20-20. This we try to use at least once a month on leaf only trees. If a tree flower we try to double that and if it is a fruiting tree we may actually do it weekly. We typically use a concentration that is 1/2 to 3/4 the strength listed on the label. We only use this fertilizer schedule during the growing season and during the winter only do it once a month or so. Hope this helps. Enjoy the tree. Thanks again. Poppa

    C.R Sorry to hear your having problems. Easiest way I know to see if a tree is alive is to gently make a small scratch or nick into the bark of the tree if you see green, the tree still has a chance. Good luck. Poppa

    Thanks for watching Alperen. Unfortunately, as you may have noticed, I am an old man so growing from seeds is just to time consuming and does not provide the instant gratification that working with a established tree does. That being said, don't let it stop you from doing it. One word of warning, if you are not in an area that has a real Winter, red maples will probably not grow very well. I am in Central Florida, and they will not survive well here. So do some research on the seeds you chose to make sure they will thrive were you live. Good luck, and thanks again for watching. More videos to come. Thanks, Poppa

    Hi, as of last Monday (5-4-2020) I purchased a Procumben Nana Juniper Outdoor (fern looking) Bonsai and Fukien Tea Bonsai tree. Every other day I have watered, the trees, applied miracle grow last Monday and again this Thursday morning, sprayed both Bonsai trees but this time I used Lemon water just a lite spray on the soil and on the leaves of both trees. Noticing brown leaves on the Juniper Bonsai and yellow scatter attached leaves (no curling) on the Fukien Tea Bonsai. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

    How do you "style a tree" like you where talking about before you got distracted? I bought one of these and it looks nothing like yours unfortunately. It has 2 trunks that are short with a bunch of leaves that seems to be contained and round. Does it have any hope to look like this one day or is it one of those things where you get what you pay for?

    Thanks Priscilla for watching. Hope you have great success with your tree. It is hard to advise you on the styrofoam without seeing it. If it is a solid block under everything and there is plenty of soil for the tree, then you could probably leave it if you wanted. Same answer if it is chunks or pieces mixed into the soil and there is plenty of soil for the tree to grow in. Again, it is hard to answer without seeing it. If the foam is taking up to much of the growing space for the tree, then you will have to repot. I qm not a scientist, but I do not think the foam itself will create a health problem with the tree, but cosmetically it would be very unappealing. We commonly use styrofoam packing peanuts below the bark we plant orchid in since orchids do not require soil for their roots to get moisture and packing peanuts are free and orchid bark is not. Hope this helps and thanks again. Poppa

    Good morning, and thanks for watching. If you keep topping the plant it should be pencil thick or better within one season if the weather is similar to mine in Florida. If they are getting enough light, water, and food, I would grow them in the ground for a couple of years. Just keep trimming the tops to consolidate the energy usage to the trunk and you should have something to be proud of before you know it. In the interim, I would find a tree that is more mature right now so you have something to work with Remember, it is no harder to maintain a few bonsai as it is to maintain one Good luck and enjoy. How to go into the woods and take a branch or something, plant it and eventually grow it into a tree from the woods. A birch for instance if my google translate was good. How do we create a tree from the outdoor. W.o the seeds?

    Hi BAS, thanks for watching and congrats on the new family members.
    I am not familiar with using lemon water, so I will only be able to give you my opinion. I would not use it. Lemon juice is acidic and could possibly lower the pH to much. Also, plain water has been being used for centuries, so it is reasonably and normally safe to use. I normally fertilize monthly, but if you want to do it more often make sure it is a reasonably diluted concentration. The Nanas love foliage feeding, so fill a spray bottle up with a diluted mix and you can spray routinely. DO NOT think foliage feeding replaces watering. Were I am, in sunny Florida, we water the bonsai daily and some twice daily. If the trees have a traditional bonsai soil which is mostly inorganic gravel, you would be hard pressed to over water it. (I do have a soil video also that will let you see what soil we use). Once a Nana starts yellowing, they typically keep getting worse. So make sure it is getting plenty of water and has plenty of drainage. Also, if you may want to research red spider mites, they love killing Nana's. If you are not sure about the mites, just pick up some pesticide and treat for them anyway. We use Bayer 3n1, but there are a number of products that will work the same and some are organic if that is your preference. The two main issues people have with Nana bonsai is not enough water and not enough sun. Look for tiny new growth coming off the branches and trunk. Hopefully this will get you back on track but if it continues to get worse over the next few days or so, get it to someone to look at. If you are in the Tampa area, I am happy to take a look.
    On the fukien, lack of sun and water are also two of the big issues. I keep all of my fukiens right out in the nursery with the same sun as the Nanas, although they are more shade tolerant than nanas. Again soil should be very course and well draining with large drain holes in the pot. If the fukien is healthy, you could actually pluck off all the leaves and let it regrow new ones, but the tree needs to be healthy. Main pest issues with the fukiens here is aphids. They will look like tiny little dots(bugs) on the leaves and are very hard to miss if they are there. The same pesticide for spider mites should take care of aphids if you have them. If it is just some of the leaves that are a problem, pluck off those leaves and watch the tree for recovery. The fukien should get back on track faster than the Nana. Hope this helps, but if you need more info, email your number and we can discuss what the next step is. support@tampabonsaiDOTcom
    Good luck, and I look forward to hearing good news on the recoveries. Thanks, Poppa

    How long do you normally keep the wire on? And how do you put the wire on?

    • @LearnToBonsai
      @LearnToBonsai  5 років тому

      Thanks for the comment and I will get a video on this up soon.
      How long to leave wire on.......as long as possible without the tree swelling up into the wire. You have to watch it close. Depending on time of year and species of tree the wire may stay on from a couple of weeks up to a few months. Watch where you wrap wire from the trunk to a branch this is normally where the wire is wrapped tightest. Also small wire is a bigger issue than thick since it is easier to wrap thin wire to tight than thick.
      How to wire is much harder to explain in a paragraph but the short answer is... Wrap the wire at a 45degree angle. Always try to wire 2 branches with 1 wire. In other words wrap a branch the up or across the trunk to another branch and wrap it to. This provides anchor points when you try to bend the branches. Hope this helps some. More info to come in an upcoming video. Thanks. Poppa

    • @LearnToBonsai
      @LearnToBonsai  5 років тому

      That would depend on the species. Some you can trim any time after repotting, others you should wait awhile. What species of tree do you have?

      The Fukien Tea tree is a pretty durable tree. You can often repot and trim in one shot, but to be safe just wait until the tree is pushing vigorous new growth after the repot and then trim and style as needed. Thanks. Poppa

    Michael. If you are asking why does some nodes on a tree only grow leaves and some grow branches and leaves, I do not have an answer for you. Unfortunately, that is getting a little deeper into botonical physiology than my knowledge can assist with. That being said, I have had lots of fun a success in bonsai without knowing, so hopefully you can too.
