That's literally the only reason i play splatoon, because everything is fishy And the art is so good that the player has the idea that besides inktopolis there is more out there. Truly a masterpiece.
HEY! Just a note! I think the wiki got it wrong. I bet the fish at 5:30 is a Rhinochimaera. (Long-nosed chimera) It explains the weird coloured eyes, the multiple gill slits, the colour, and the weird long nose thing
Yes I think you're probably right, thank you! Another commenter pointed this out as well. I definitely wasn't satisfied with the wiki on that one. The only thing that doesn't match up is the gill slits which don't show externally on chimaeras as far as I'm aware, but everything else fits well. Thanks again!
I'm in love with the Octo Expansion DLC, you definitely deserve more subs! I love these kind of videos! Splatoon lore is insane, especially the Octo Expansion. 😳
Also, since blobfish live 2000-4000 feet below the sea level and their bodies can’t support themselves higher than that, the blobfish in that picture that everyone’s seen is probably dead. :(
Fun Fact: I want to say the Splatoon 2 team actually partnered up with a Japanese submersible team - I forgot the specific name or one - to help with the studying and accuracy of the various species and even the environment of the Deep Sea Metro. There are even sceneries that are based off of hydrothermal vents - spoiler, they're basically factory smokestacks in the Splatoon universe.
My first time loading up the Octo Expansion, i got freaked tf out upon seeing the deep sea creatures on the train lol They still give me the heebie jeebies ngl
02:21 and everyone thought Pearl was ugly, boy were they wrong! I do think the blob fish is pretty cool though, he kind of reminds me of Bubble Bass from SpongeBob 06:09 Sea Angels would actually be a great name for a new band
Nintendo puts so much detail to their games and so many little fun facts and Easter eggs, I really appreciate what Nintendo does, and how far it’s brought me in my education in sea life
i just want to think that the splatoon world has all lifefroms intelligent and not, say, you have sea jellyfish (primitive jellies) and you have the ones on land, everyone evovolved
Thanks for your input! Yeah this one's still very much an open discussion and you might be right - I think chimaeras are a good guess because 1) they're known for long or plow-shaped snouts, 2) they've got the big creepy eyes, and 3) they fit the the theme of "mysterious deep sea animal" a little better than the dogfish. However, the characters do have those shark-like gills so it's a bit unclear.
It is super cool, however worth pointing out that since fish are vertebrates, they are even closer relatives. Tunicates are the closest inverts though! Thanks for watching 😊
@@KikiBethSays wait i wonder if reptiles still exist theyd be the clostest living relative. If not then it would be lung fish or the celecanth. Since we're more closely related to whats called "lobe fin" fishs than. Ray fin fish which is most fish. So
Iso padre might have a double pun in his name. Iso, in finnish means big, while padre means father (not in finnish). So, you can somewhat make his name to mean grand father. Which is a movie he's obviously supposed to represent.
Update on the shark guys: they are birdbeak dogfish! (according to the official JAMSTEC/Splatoon collab site)
the mystery is finally solved!
I like the fact Iso Padre looks all big and tough, while he put stickers on his back and has cute little plushies
Splatoon and ena fan? Approved.
@@echothefreak9396 omg a fellow Ena fan who likes splatoon as well!
@@Mako.sharkeeeeeee im an ena fan too
he’s weird and i love it
lmao and basically the opposite for the sea angels
I cannot be the only one who loves what the ping pong tree sponge is wearing. I love the dress so much!!
I agree, it's a great design! :)
MAKE THEM A OFFICIAL CHARACTER ❤❤❤
SLAY PING PONG QUEEN

Agreed, the world of Splatoon is fascinating and so creative 🐟
i love how the sea angels are just big hunky jocks
i read the title as marine animals inspired by splatoon 2's octo expansion
"hey look they made the squid from Splatoon into a real thing"
OMG THEY MADE OCTOPUSES REAL
I wish squids were real

3:37 so i'm more related to a pool of balls and a plastic tube than a crab.
GREAT.
If you look closely, that pool of balls has white bug eyes......

I didn't think that those things were real creatures I just thought they were there to make you uncomfortable
They definitely do that too haha
YES! Love for the weird deepsea denizens! I'm so happy to see the predatory tunicates get some good attention!
Thank you so much for this!
This is actually good content. You should have way more subscribers!

06:09 Sea Angels would actually be a great name for a new band
I love how all octo expansion deep sea metro creatures are all
Well. Deep sea creatures
This is the most I learned, more than in school
I think because it’s the ocean
They are called sea angles or Sea Ghosts because they were originally believed to be the souls of sailors long dead at sea
The gulper eel looks like something is would draw in math class.
OMG THERE'S AN ISOPOD NPC?
I LOVE ISOPODS!!!
(Both the land and the sea ones)
this is so interesting!!! i love splatoon but i don’t know too much about marine animals, thank you for making this video!
Glad you enjoyed it! I learned a lot myself in the making of it 😊
Splatoon is the reason I’m a fish nerd
Wow, I can't wait to see what the jelly fish are based on!
You need some more love for this video. Amazing research! 💚
There needs to be a dumbo octoling with big ear like flaps but smaller than a normal octoling
I love this video. I had a book on marine animals when I was little. This video reminded me of it.
I didn’t even know we had sea angels in this game, but as a fan of them, I am ecstatic
You need more subscribers for stuff like this lol
Thanks, I'm planning more videos like this soon :)
The one person who disliked doesn’t know what Splatoon even is
And now I question why that person had Splatoon content in their recommend list
3:50 Just like an underwater Venus Flytrap.
6:15 Sea angel himbo jocks. I love Splatoon
Sea angels... Oh god... I caught so many of them in animal crossing...
Yep! In Animal Crossing they're called sea butterflies, but it's just another common name for the same critter.
Bet flashlight fish use their blinkers better than people do when driving
Missed opportunity to add the magnapinna squid or bigfin squid because, y'know, Splatoon, inklings, squid kids?
Yeah I may do a whole squid vid at some point, it's a good idea! :)
Holy crap you're underrated
Nintendo puts so much detail to their games and so many little fun facts and Easter eggs, I really appreciate what Nintendo does, and how far it’s brought me in my education in sea life
Strong sea angels my beloved
The Octo Expansion was amazing! I love it
I was able to identify a few of them, glad there was a video to show what the rest of them were.
C.Q. Cumber: DOES THIS LOOK LIKE THE FACE OF MERCY TO YOU!?
he is unforgiving and will splat you if you fail
I hope starfish make it to Splatoon 3
They should do more world building in regards to the deep sea district.
Very informative video. Good job on that!
Pilbugs are from the same family as giant isopods
They still have gills . Thats why they're found in humid places .
i just want to think that the splatoon world has all lifefroms intelligent and not, say, you have sea jellyfish (primitive jellies) and you have the ones on land, everyone evovolved
Omg this is soo goood!!! This needs more views!
Thanks so much!
I presumed that the businessmen were ratfish/chimeras which are also chondrichthyes (cartilaginous fish)

This is like a 4th grade video we would watch about sea animals but with Splatoon🤩
I'm think the blobfish of the world are cute also funny for meme😆
This needs more likes- imagine all the time she used for this video
Aw, thanks for the comment!
You're so underrated
Marie from Splatoon is a firefly squid
3:26 I love that
I wish there was types of inkings and octolings in the deep sea metro based on deep sea cephalopods but i guess it makes sense theres only two races
very interesting!! I love splatoon and marine biology is just fascinating.
When a UA-cam video teaches more than your current or past classes
3:32 wait thats really interesting when it comes to splatoon lore these things are the last live relative to vertebrates that isn't jud

Nuuu- why would so do that to C.Q. ! (Yes I've been through the DLC. C.Q. seems to genuinely care for the player if a little blunt at times).
Im assuming every marine animal in the Splatoon universe is based on a land animal.
Sea angles look buff
