So Per Welinder with his BTTF appearance is responsible for getting about as many people into skateboarding as Tony Hawk with the game series. Respect.

Per Welinder was one of my favorite skaters to learn from watching in the Powell Peralta videos. By age 12 to 13 years old, I learned and mastered a few of the same power tricks he did.
I competed in all the CASL and NSA Freestyle contests from 1986 - 1991 from age 10 through 15 until Freestyle died off.
Per judged the last big Pro/Am Freestyle contest in April 1990, sanctioned by CASL, called PSL, (Pro Skate League). That was by far the best Freestyle contest I and many others entered. I proudly took 3rd out of 12 factory sponsored riders that day.
My brother Terry Trimble was Vice President of CASL and Head Judge of the Freestyle contests back then.
I created and published a 5 part skate documentary series with the main Title 'DETERMINATION' followed by subtitles. There's a lot of skate contest footage during those years, including some of Per Welinder, Rodney Mullen, Primo Desiderio, many others, including myself. Take a look when you get the chance.

I heard Kevin Harris was Mullens favorite freestyle skater is that true?I feel old-school freestyle skating dosent get enough praise considering its kind of a foundation of street skating. Is freestyle skating back in again especially in Japan?

Why did freestyle skating die out in 91?

Were other freestyle skaters invent tricks or do tricks that Rodney didn't do? I feel like he over shadowed other freestyle skaters too much and they are under praised?

@markwarne5049 Many Freestylers, including myself, invented tricks of our own, set apart from Rodney's tricks.
I discovered and invented the frontside 180 no-comply pressure flip between December 1988 and January 1989.
I gave it an official name in 2023 titled 'Trim-Flip'. I posted a video on that as well. You can see it on the video titled 'Trim-Flip Skateboad trick John Trimble inventor of the Frontside 180 No Comply Pressure Flip'.
None of Rodney's tricks are included in my trick, and Matt Hensley's variation only includes half my trick variation. Matt's variation debut on the first H-street video around the same time I discovered and invented my variation, which was filmed for the first time on July 4th, 1989.

I wonder if Per Wellinder was one of the pioneers in street skating?

Per Welinder had one of those decks that was hard to want to put to its intended use because it looked so killer. There is something to be said for boards with stupid crap for graphics so nobody would care about them being ruined. Welinder boards on the other hand are hard to even want to put rails on it to try to save the graphics. But even if you have a reissue with grip tape on it the skating must be done.
