About this video: Now that the harvest is completed it's to to split these massive demaree colonies and double our production colonies for next season. The goal is to enter spring with 60 colonies next year.
    This Channel:
Although this beekeeping channel is primarily about beekeeping I am also a quasi pepper who believes in becoming self-sufficient. With that in mind, I have started a garden, planted fruit trees, replaced the hedges in front of my house with blueberry bushes, and have recently built a chicken coop. In short, I will share a lot more than beekeeping on this channel.
    A little about me:
I am a person who believes you are never to old to learn something. Be it beekeeping, farming, raising chickens, painting, filming and editing video, making wine, beer, bread, cheese, and other fermentation consumables, play guitar etc... If I see something I want to try I start it immediately. If there is one thing I could choose to pass along to my children this would be it. Never be afraid to try. My wife famously told me once that if you are not willing to be bad at something, you will never be good at it. I am bad at quite a few things.
I hope you find my beekeeping videos fun and entertaining as well as get something out of them. I hope I inspire someone to get out and try something new. If you do enjoy my videos, please take a moment to spread the word about this channel and help it, and myself, grow. Have a great day and BEE Happy!

Looking good. Glad you had a good harvest.
I put my Hillco extractor on a wooden platform made out of 2 by's and put coasters on the bottom. You can make it wide enough to put some weights (sandbags or ? ) to help hold it down. Then you can still move it later and you don't have holes in your floor.

Great idea and now up for consideration. It's all really going to depend on my honeyhouse room design. Thanks a ton.

Glad to see things are going good for ya down there. Going to pull supers at the end of the month and start treatments as soon as they come off. Then fall splits for next season. Hope to have 30 to 35 colonies for winter. Good luck on those splits.

As soon as I finish my splits I will be treating for mites. I will have James McNally from Alberta down here this week to help me out. Between the two of us we can certainly get some work done.

@@BugFarmerBees that will be a good time. He should be a great help for ya. I have seen many of his videos too. Great guy to learn from. I always do my treatments first then split. Saves a little money on treatments. Get them clean, do the split and don’t have to worry about new queens getting messed up by any of the treatments. Can’t wait for the next one!

Plat the peach tree then work some bees. I worked the home yard yesterday after a season of neglect and still have 5 hives to split at the farm. It's a good thing it's fun because it sure is a ton of work. :-)

Hi Joey. When is Mr. Ed doing his harvest? I am sure it will be a big one this year. Anyway, I saw Hillco had a hose stab that fits onto their extractor. I think I will buy it and use it to drain my extractor in place too.

The weirdo frame can be a problem when it gets glued down or connected to a lower frame during a strong flow.. Stung on the back side, it happens. Anger the bees some more, thunder storms add to their attitude.

I was zapped in the gluteus maximus :-). I will remove that medium frame as soon as I receive more deep foundations and I fan cobble some frames together.

you are just so funny. But I do have a question on your late splits If I understand right u are letting them make there own queens. That will make it july for the new q. Is that time enough to get them strong for winter. do you have cold winters. I know u heat your hives. I dont I am in Virginia. I do not remember what state you are in. Thanks and have a good week. Hope your butt sting gets better soon. That was funny.

    • @BugFarmerBees

I am doing post harvest splits for a couple of reasons. First, because I did the Demaree manipulation in the spring most of my hives are booming. Now that the honey has been pulled and the hives have fewer boxes I need to split the hives to provide space and prevent swarms. Secondly, I also want to double my colony count for next year and begin the year with fresh queens. Splits this time of year should do that for me. In doing my splits so far I have only seen one red queen so most every queen will be a year or less old by the next flow. If I have time, I will pinch the red queen and start with a new one in that hive as well. As for the heaters, the farm yard isn't heated and I chose not to heat the hives in my home yard last season. I don't know If I am going to heat any hives this year. TBD.

@@BugFarmerBees I did the Damaree as well I think I will try this on just a few. Just to see if it will work here where I live my flow is over now, we will have no more so I will have to constant feed them. this will be a test for sure. Thanks for the fast reply. Hope you have a great weekend
