🇬🇧 Have you ever dreamed of a gondola ride in Venice? The gondola is a type of Venetian boat that probably first appeared in the 11th century and is the ultimate attraction in Venice. However, the designs were not completely uniform at that time and changed over the centuries. Originally, gondolas came in all possible colors and the Venetian noble and patrician houses of the time tried to outdo each other in the magnificent furnishings of their boats. In order to put a stop to the ostentation, a law was passed in 1562 to establish a uniform standard. In the 16th century, there were more than 10,000 gondolas in the city. The modern gondola, as it is still in use today, has only existed since the end of the 19th century. Nowadays, gondolas are primarily used as a tourist attraction.

Ursprünglich gab es Gondeln in allen möglichen Farben und die damaligen venezianischen Adels- und Patrizierhäuser versuchten, sich gegenseitig in der prachtvollen Ausstattung der Boote zu überbieten. Um der Prunksucht Einhalt zu gebieten, erliess man 1562 ein Gesetz zur einheitlichen Norm. Im 16. Jahrhundert zählte man mehr als 10.000 Gondeln in der Stadt. Die moderne Gondel, wie sie heute noch gebräuchlich ist, gibt es erst seit Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts. Heutzutage werden Gondeln primär nur noch als Touristenattraktion verwendet.
