Hate to tell you, but even NOW they can do actual work. Sweeping the floor, bringing materials around - already replacing human work. Google has in the HQ the cantina cleaned by robots for years - check the videos from 2 years ago ;)
Can't imagine bi-pedal robots EVER being a volume thing in manufacturing (USING them). There's just no need for the extra expense in a CONTROLLED ENVIRONMENT where the floors should be flat and wheels will rule in speed and reduced cost. I expect any initial efforts are just to get a company more aware of what's going on in the market place, but bi-pedal are for home and more varied terrain, such as rescue and military.
