I'm 90 years old now and I had a 31' sloop for almost 30 years up until 1995. Thank you for enabling me to enjoy again what used to be the best part of my life, life aboard an ocean going sailboat. I hope you find out how special you are!
You two, fill a void, I have begun watching your video blog from the beginning. I have sailed with my family in US Maine and Massachusetts, for many years. This is a sea poem that understands me. Sea Fever BY JOHN MASEFIELD I must down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky, And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by; And the wheel’s kick and the wind’s song and the white sail’s shaking, And a grey mist on the sea’s face, and a grey dawn breaking.
I must down to the seas again, for the call of the running tide Is a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied; And all I ask is a windy day with the white clouds flying, And the flung spray and the blown spume, and the sea-gulls crying.
I must down to the seas again, to the vagrant gypsy life, To the gull’s way and the whale’s way where the wind’s like a whetted knife; And all I ask is a merry yarn from a laughing fellow-rover, And quiet sleep and a sweet dream when the long trick’s over.
Watching your videos is so relaxing, it's a shame each one has to end. I always get 'lost' in a dreamy haze with the wonderful history lessons you give, about the places you visit. By far, yours is -one of- the *best* channels on UA-cam
Johan is well-spoken in idiomatic English, especially with regard to technical subjects, and Malin has great talent for narration to present the big picture that integrates all the parts of the story. A good video requires a number of skills that some others have mastered, but Malin's narratives combined with Johan's comments and Vera's antics put RAN in a class of its own.
Another lovely episode. Beautifully filmed and edited and imaginatively produced. You guys rock! Don’t worry on our account about the Med. Your skills and personality could make a trip on the cross-harbour ferry excitingly vivid and enticing. Thank you. The world will get better eventually, as it did after the so-called Spanish flu a century ago. Meanwhile .... huge congratulations on maintaining such an awesome channel. Roy 😊
Holy moly! That island shot at 0:08 is just stunning. I can't even imagine such a cluster of homes without even a single tree. 😳😲 I hadn't remembered that Pippi Longstocking was Swedish (Pippi Långstrump)! I have fond memories of the TV show in Canada in the '70s.
Sun Halo, is what I was taught in the USA is a Sun Dog. Living in the Rocky Mountains of the Western USA, skiers ⛷ always love to see this. Here at 2,800 meters above sea level this happens at the end of a snowstorm. It is always warmer when snowing. The thick clouds provide insulation from the cold open sky. The clouds dump meters of snow and when the storm starts to break the temperatures always plummet. The temperature drop causes the last thin clouds, to drop very small ice crystals. It is these small ice crystals that cause a Sun Dog. Here the Sun Dog often forms a full circle around the sun. Unlike at sea level, here the day after a Sun Dog, the weather is clear, cold, and always sunny. Sun Dog always precedes the best days to ski deep powder snow. I never knew a Sun Dog was a warning for sailors at sea level. Thank you for sharing this bad omen for sailors. I learned something. In my life a Sun Dog was always a wonderful omen. A Sun Dog always preceded a day on the ski slopes with Dad. Meters deep powder snow and sunshine. Our school teachers even knew that when a Sun Dog was reported on the mountain that many students would not be in class the next day. Students would be sick as a dog, and be out skiing. Those chasing the Dog always needed sunglasses 🕶 and ski goggles. The last symptom of our school sick day, was always a return to class looking like raccoons. She knew we were all chasing the Dog.
Sweden is beautiful! Don't worry about the natural sounds of wind, halyards on the mast, etc. in your video, it's all part of your experience that is enjoyed by a huge following. Thank you for sharing your journey.
I just can't say it enough, your baby is absolutely delightful. She seems so gentle, and such a sensitive aware being! I haven't seen my second granddaughter yet, she turned 1 years old on March 6th I've never met her because of this covid. So I thx you for sharing your adventures, and your family.
At the start of this episode I was thinking how harsh the weather is in your part of the World... Marlin's face at 2:10 sums it up!! By the end of it, I had changed my mind... how beautiful it truly is! Thanks for sharing.. I think the saying "Good things come to those who wait" is appropriate for the whole World especially in the sailing community... Once you get to the the warmer/sunny areas, the wait will be worth it..... The smiles on all your faces will show us all! All the best Richard
Yes, the halo around the sun indicates high moisture content aloft. I have only really noticed them when associated with very unstable air, normally associated with a cold front. Good day to be tied to a sheltered dock! Nothing beats a storm when your safety is not threatened.
What i really appreciate having followed you from the first day is your professionalism to your job. ( of course your characters and adventures also play a big part too ) ... You earn your living by making videos and have built up a large following because we know that whatever happens you post every weekend without fail .. so many other youtubers take a very casual approach to respecting the deadlines they have established. ..
"Baby wipes removes dirt like magic" - I had a good chuckle at that comment! And it just got better, an amazing video, thank you. I'm more a warm weather person and couldn't do spring in 5°C, so, again thank you for doing it for me!
Yay, Pippy! As always, you guys are the best. ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,/),,,,,,,,,,,,fair winds you three. Your words while tossing rocks, well, you are just wonderful Malin.
I love the time you put into learning the history of the area that you are staying in and then teaching us. You guys would be great school teachers. Great video. Don't worry about moving if you can't , we aren't going anywhere we love you guys.
I must say it's quite cute watching Vera running now saying Da DaDa, too sweet!! Your wonderful parents to our future "fastest single handed sail round the world!" Miss Vera will be a great sailor with you both as her parents an mentors. I don't find you day dreaming about sailing to warmer latitudes on a warm beautiful day on an island like that complaining luv ... I find it a brilliant idea for future sails.. but we all know how the world is now... Thanks for bringing us hours of joy by sharing your lives with us!! Again Thanks Guys, Donna from Baltimore MD ✌🏻💗😊❣️
The scene about boat life being so much closer to nature than life on land reminded me of how traveling by motorcycle is so much more "real" than traveling in a car. I really miss my bike right now. :( But your videos are a joy, as always. Hugs to you all.
At 8:12 - the "200 years to build it" is not one single construction project as it might sound from the way it's phrased, rather it was an initial fort done in several steps, with the first permanent stone design began in 1681. From wikipedia, the central parts were completed already in 1689 (which I believe the camera is panning over at this timestamp), the outer walls were finished in early 1700s, and extra additions pretty much finished in 1719. Extensions were started in 1770, and yet another extension done in 1830-1850.
The boat sounds should be in every video Seaborne you are completely on your own. Water power food sleep safety.... It's all up to you and that's why we watch
Never had the opportunity to experience a big storm at sea, but I have lived through a tornado while boating on the Missouri River. It crossed 3/4 of a mile upriver from me, in my 10' Johnboat that has a 2.5' doom tent cover, here in Iowa. And a another storm that dropped 2.5'' of rain with 25-40mph winds with temp of 32`-40`F for 7hrs in the same 10' boat. Just 2 of my favorite survival challenges that has made up my life. Great Fun!!!! Spc-Lee a Benson 11B U.S Army (RM) Rangers, Lead the Way!
Glad to see Ran 2 sailing again. I know some places they call it standing aground, but here they call it "ran aground". In future I will refer to it as standing aground, when I next do that. Great history story and amazing views in your excellent video. Thank you, and special thanks to the star of the show Vera.
Your country is very lovely...just stay there for now, we very much like to see it! It seems to me that winter on a boat, as you show it, is very similar to living on the the sea side in a remote village. I lived many year in a place called Caplan on the Baie des Chaleurs in the Quebec Gaspé area. Our house was on a cliff barely 20 meters form the sea. In the cold winter days the 45knot winds would push the waves up the cliff and spray would hit the windows...The house vibrated and cracked and even the fireplace would flare up in the heavy gusts...As a sailor myself, this would then remind me of the many trips in the Saint Lawrence, in the middle of summer which often turned windy and cold! Well done RAN, as usual. Cheers
It always surprises me when I hear you speak Swedish and I realize that are hardcore skåningar, a fact that you hide really well when speaking English ;)
I do understand your comments about dealing with adverse weather. I don't live on a boat, but do live full-time in an 8 ft tent trailer on my 10 acre property. We are having unusual high wind events this winter, and longer fire seasons each year. I have to prepare for each by making sure everything is secured, that I have full propane tanks, and fuel cans for my generator. I plan my days around the weather in ways I never thought about when living in a conventional home. Great vids, thanks.
Your Swedish adventures and video production has been some of your best work to date and very enjoyable to watch. We have seen parts of Sweden and a side that we never knew existed. We have loved it all. This episode was powerful and very well done, your time and effort shows. Your intuition of balance, pace and story is perfect in these episodes, your story is thoughtful and complete, not rushed just to get something out like a lot of UA-camrs do. And it seems like it was just yesterday when you guys were in Seattle soon after your news chopper ride and had to race down the west coast with Vera :) . (We live in the Pacific North West so were watching all your PNW adventures.) Anything you decide to do will be great and we will watch because you are good at it and it is always worth watching.
Thats like the mountains meet the beach that is beautiful to me ty for sharing this because I know in my life I will never get to see these things in real life ty ❤ty ❤ty ❤it's just so pretty ty
I want to build a cut granite building in the Swedish isles. It would run east to west and the south side would be full of windows to grow plants through the winter. Some windows would be glass for a view but most could be cheaper oiled-paper windows just for the sunlight. The structural heavy stones would be the interior walls for thermal mass, and the outside would be insulated with strawbales, and those would be covered by a facade of thinner stones
I'm loving seeing Sweden, thank you so much for sharing it with us! I look forward to winter sailing some day, but as the water freezes solid where we currently have our boat, she lives on the hard from October to April. Watching your adventures is very inspirational.
Beautiful place and so well filmed... We call the ring around the sun a 'Sun Dog' and it gives you a warning of bad weather to come... You don't look like you suffer from air pollution and the sky is a beautiful vivid blue... It is a difficult time at the moment to plan anything... We are hoping to get away in July (Covid permitting) and we are planning to head down to the South Atlantic for the short summer in the Falklands before entering the Pacific in early January 2022 via the Magellan Straits or Beagle Channel...
Very pretty little rock islands you visited, love the 1663 Castle you visited at 8:30 🕣 Neater than Alcatraz in the San Frisco bay .. Also loved the little toy village Vera was playing with on the rocks at 15:45 too 😎👍✅🤣🤣
I'm learning more about Sweden in your videos than I ever learned in school. The places you sail to, are so beautiful. Thank you Johan...Milan and Vera....
The Pippi Longstocking house used in the film is located in Fernandina Beach Florida on Amelia Island. A great place to stop over when you sail down the east coast of the US.
I hope you guys won't think I am strange, because I already do that. But anyway here goes, About a year ago I had a dream that I was in Sweden in Malmo, and the three of you, and I were eating together. I am still wandering why I would be dreaming about you guy's.
Love your adventures and futhering my education of Sweden. Your video brought me back to my childhood and everything I could read on the Franklin expedition, the two ships trapped in ice and the on going mystery after parks canada found the wrecks , surrounding the crew. So looking forward to your summer adventures. Ray from PEI CANADA.
I think you have pulled off an amazing season and it has been a delight to see your beautiful country. You've kept safe away from the pandemic hot spots and accomplished a lot in refitting the new boat. I can't see the world opening up properly until at least next year, as vaccine rollout is going to take time to reach many of these far flung locations. It may be easier too with Vera by then.
I'm 90 years old now and I had a 31' sloop for almost 30 years up until 1995. Thank you for enabling me to enjoy again what used to be the best part of my life, life aboard an ocean going sailboat. I hope you find out how special you are!

Vera's little bunny ears, so sweet. I just love the way you give us the history of where you are, really interesting. Thank you
Good to see the Supervisor checking on your engine room cleaning...
😂
There is no reason to rush anywhere. Enjoy your days together wherever you are. Be so grateful for what you have.
I've heard that any day that you wake with your gratitude higher than your expectations, will be a good day.
Watching your videos is so relaxing, it's a shame each one has to end.
I always get 'lost' in a dreamy haze with the wonderful history lessons you give, about the places you visit.

Just fabulous ‼️ ‼️‼️ Vera is getting bigger.......running even. And both of you look fit, happy and at peace. Wonderful.✨ ✌️ ✨ 💕 ✨ 😊
Another lovely episode. Beautifully filmed and edited and imaginatively produced. You guys rock!

Meanwhile .... huge congratulations on maintaining such an awesome channel.
Roy 😊
It took me 1 hour to watch an 18 min. video. I keep pausing to check out the amazing location. Hang in there spring is in the air.
Good to hear that I am not the only ome doing this.
We watch your videos because they are calm, uplifting, interesting and fun with your delightful daughter! They cheer me up in these weird times.
Those glacial striations on the island are so large, imagine 20000 years ago there was a 1000 ? m ice sheet there.
A bit more actually, around 2 to 3,5 km! 😮

Vera is fortunate to grow up on a boat, she will learn what is normal noise and what noise to be concerned with.
I honestly don’t have sufficient superlatives to describe the enormous enjoyment I get from your channel (& daughter😀) - thank you so much!!👍
I just can't say it enough, your baby is absolutely delightful. She seems so gentle, and such a sensitive aware being! I haven't seen my second granddaughter yet, she turned 1 years old on March 6th I've never met her because of this covid. So I thx you for sharing your adventures, and your family.

Everyone sails in the south. I love that you show the beauty of the north.
Great to see the smaller places - picture perfect
Such great views. Great to see Vera helping out Dad. Lovely vlog.

On the bright side, weathering a windy night on a boat, you will never have a tree come crashing through your roof.

Absolutely gorgeous island. Thanks for showing us your beautiful country. Safe travels!
I will add to the folks saying that I too am enjoying seeing the Swedish coast islands, and villages.

The history and pictures of your country are amazing, thanks for sharing.
Sweden is majestic. So fortunate to explore unencumbered like this.
Thank you RAN for 244.

Thank you for sharing your adventures with those of us that are land locked in the midwest America
Thank you for sharing your beautiful country! Watching Vera learning to toss rocks brought a tear to my eyes🥲
I want to build a cut granite building in the Swedish isles. It would run east to west and the south side would be full of windows to grow plants through the winter. Another breath of fresh air! Thank you!
Another great produced Video. That last bench on the rocks facing the sea was absolutely magical.
Cheerz!!

Wonderful bright light and colors.
Happy Spring! 🙂🇨🇦

The stark beauty of the are is amazing!
Fantastic EP, such a calming effect in a !! Crazy World !! Thank You.
Your videos bring me much needed joy. Sharing an anchorage would be delightful.
Little girl helping her father to clean the engine 🥰😘 can I book that girl service next time I service my engine 😁😄 big love to you guys 🥰🥰😘😘

I remember watching Pipi Longstockings when I was a young boy so many years ago. Thanks for sharing!
The feeling of the line tension creaking. That brings back memories. Thanks so much for describing it the way you did.
Love it and you 3. A caring fun. Sea fairing family exploring every harbor or need to reach or desire there too.
really nice to see you appreciating Marstrand & Åstol
We like your videos. I wish you make one showing how the boat is heated, since you are now in cold weather. Thanks.
