Well you got me started back in January with D chord.
Now im here.
Thanks Justin
I think the first part is a fantastic riff for beginners. It's very encouraging for beginners because they will pick it up in no time
Well said, this is the first song i learned on my first week
should be F# sus4 I think?
That F# chord with the chorus effect on it is so hypnotizing
Timeless and amazing song.Cobain and Tony iommi were my first influences to play guitar......
Nirvana's songs were simple but powerful.
More nirvana! Been playing a lit of nirvana acoustically lately and would love lessons from justin to make my skills better and get the songs better!
Just do a tutorial for every single Nirvana song, from Bleach to Unplugged in New York. Not joking. :)
Yes!
Yes Justin! Please more Nirvana lessons! :D
Thank god this video still exists! I always write the riffs down but this time I didn’t get it in the app for beginners. ☹️ But now I’ve got it! 💪 Thanks 🤗
Thank you. I learned it from another guys video. He seems learned but I knew something was wrong. You have it right.
Cool, 5:00 Chorus and 7:40 Bridge!
I love this man
Best guitar teacher on UA-cam
Hey thanks! I wanted to learn something more of my skill level and you helped me out! Thanks!
I,m getting there slowly. Got my first guitar 1 week ago. Thanks
Thanks Justin for all your effort and videos
God bless
One thing I have observed about Kurt`s music is the melodies are not to hard to learn . The guy was a great composer . He has been said to be like Neil Young and Hendrix .
Great job Justin, you are a part off the family !
Hey Justin! Would it be possible to make a separate video to teach finger picking style, and picking on an acoustic guitar. Thanks!
Amazed nobody has mentioned the Lifeson Hemispheres chord. I do love a bit of chorus :-)
Hey Justin! Just wanted to let you know that you silky smooth buttery voice is what I use instead of Viagra.
Ahhhh awesome i was already learning this one from your songbook just needed this. Please do smells like teen spirit also!
Do some more B side Nirvana songs Justin!
Sounds great Justin, I've been looking forward to this lesson 😉
dude perfect overtime
First song i've learned :)
same
Thanks for the chorus ;)
a really beautiful guitar!!! and as always great lesson
great video dude! quick request- maybe the intro solo to its only love by Bryan Adams! cheers
I’m on grade 2 module 12. I can sing while strumming but not while picking in the intro. Is that okay or should I dedicate some time to being able to do that?
Another fine publication Justin! Got the alert when you posted it. Looking forward to more...
Well done J! Can we have some Slash's songs for Saturday specials?
You really make it look so easy and effortless. Liked this one very much !
Great job bro!
FFS can someone explain strumming and chord exchange timing ? It's driving me nuts...
I'm a beginner, too, and since the question was 3 years ago I suppose it's not of much value to you specifically. But the way I was taught the strumming pattern is to just go up and down on each, 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + and then don't play certain ups or downs according to the pattern, but still move your arm. Worked pretty well for me. As to the exchange timing I have no idea if there is a method or if it's just practice
Thanks man you’ve been helping me.
That's an awesome song!!
I use my second finger on the 5th string. Way easier to me, as you can 'walk' along the frets/strings.
it's from Killing Jokes-Eighties which came out in the eighties, and Kurt modernized it in the 90s. Everybody says that smells like teen spirit is the anthem of the 1990's but I think it is this simple, spine-chilling riff describes the 90's as gritty&raw.
Nice easy to learn🤘👍 thanks for sharing😊 seen from Philippines 😊
made my saturday morning :) sang the tune all my way to the park walking the dog.
would love to see more nirvana tunes as well!
Just a curiosity: in the book you use a F#sus4 chord in the chorus instead - alternate way or did you change your mind?
Was a mstake - there's an apology on the web site page for the lesson! F#sus4 will still sound very close - but the chord boxes are just wrong for the D and B sus as well.
Got it, thanks :) For the verse (if I wanted to strum along instead of playing the riff) it would be still F#m and E5, though?
There’s an “all apologies”?
Great lesson
Hi Justin please do HERE SHE COMES NOW cant find any good tutorials on youtube for it would be greatly appreciated thanks
Great! Any advice on playing the riff and singing at the same time? I'm generally good at playing and singing, but this song doesn't work for me at all :(
Yea some other nirvana songs i can sing and play and this is the first nirvana song i learned but it is still tough!
Something that helps me is to play with te actual song and try to sing and let your hands just go
I found it REAL hard and I don't usually find singing and playing too tricky (well I don't sing well, but the sync is not normally the problem!) - but this one is a bit of a bitch!! :)
+JustinGuitar Songs don't get me started on do I wanna know by the Arctic monkeys...... I need auto pilot for my hands while I try and get my head around singing that song. Im convinced that both cannot be done at the same time by a human being😂
Yep, this song is a PITA (pain in the ***) to play and sing at the same time
Thank you Justin :D
Yes!!!
I love the type of music you do tutorials it's great !
Excellent lesson. Any chance you would do don't believe a word by Gary Moore please?
I do not know if you have done this song yet but would you do a lesson on Funky Monks by RHCP?
Good lad Justin.
Thank God you did this tutorial, I couldn't find anything on youtube... (just trolling kindly ;)
I love your videos Justin, but for song lessons that are in different tunings, why do you always teach them in standard? It's not hard to tune your guitar down a half step or a full step
i hate how my slow self doesn’t understand this. but i’m not with my guitar right now so hopefully i’ll understand better when i actually have my guitar
Please make more Nirvana cover ;)
Thank you. How do you strum the power chords with upstrokes? when I do it, it sounds awful.
ps this Fsharp chord reminds the beginning of an old AIC song , Rooster.
justin plz make smells like teen spirit
was just thinking it's a bit silly not to have done that already... will see what I can do!
RIP KURT 💖💗💓💓💓😥
Did someone say mini-bar?
Don't you mute the G string on the f chord?
in the recording the chorus is b5 then d. f# to a is the verse
Hye

what chorus pedal are you using?
can you please show how to play jim jones at botany bay
agree
Hey Justin is the Chorus effect on the whole time?
it is here when I play it but the 'don't have a gun bit' on the oginial there's a more dominant dirty guitar part!
I think he uses both distortion and chorus for the bridge
What guitar is that your playing?

Wish there was tab here for the riff, but thanks anyway.
Hey hey how'r u? Bishal here..! Haha..
hi Mr.Justin can you give learn about bass?
classic 90's riff
Actually, it's a classic eighties riff from the song "Eighties" of the 1985 "Killing Joke" album "Night Time". Curt slowed and tuned it down.
oh yeah forgotten that, decent english punk band killing joke
He plays it 2444 not 2443.
Good1. Been parenting too hard ? :)
? i'm parenting hard, but not sure can be too hard! ;)
lol justin, he might be talking about your shirt which says partying too hard :P
Doh!
It sounds too high it supposed to be D standard tuning
1:09
настрой мензуру
how do you get the sound though????
47rakus use a small clone by ehx get the older model its a great pedal one nob one switch try ebay or ive got four (from a music shop bankrupt stock) happy to hook u up one for £30
I literally have no idea how to strum
Hardest riff ever?
You should've just teached eighties by the killing joke where nirvana ripped this off from.
yeah did rip this song off, killing joke are decent also check em out
Taught
+Jonathan Machuca sorry my english sucks
am i the only one who found it terribly difficult to follow the first part?
no
The riff sounds real easy ont he record but the timing is a bit hard. I learned it without counting at all. Just a friend who told me the notes and me listening to the song a couple of hundred times to get the timing right. It's real satisfying to see i actualy got it right. :D
The exact rhythm of the first part and when to change fingers was tough
But once you get it, you remember it
