- Tom Lord-Alge provides an in-depth exploration of drum mixing techniques using his ControlHub Expansion Pack in this video.
ControlHub is an all-inclusive mixing plugin platform that allows you to load entire signal chain-based expansion packs from your favorite mixers and recording studios. This is not another channel strip plugin, but a complete emulation of the original hardware or software signal chain.
You now have the power to mix your individual tracks, mix bus and master chains using complete signal chain emulations from world-class mixers.
Accelerate your workflow, without compromising your creativity.

What have we learned from Mr. Tom Lord? This channel strip needs a gate module! 😀😀😀
same thoughts here :-) to be honest, i hate this control hub. It didn´t kicks me really
@@MrJinusean90 You just hate the idea that you didn't think of it first!
@@kiillabytez No i hate it to use it. I don't like it. I have a lot of plugins I don't like although they sound good
I need more of TOM Lord Alge
Toms amazing! I could watch him all day long
One of my inspirations.. awesome guy
TLA the best!) His trigger gate trick is awesome 👍
I met Tom when I used to work at Sam Ash awhile ago. He was a nice dude!!!! Glad to catch him do vids I will be watching more!!!
Hi tom lord .I'm snare lord :D
Amazing⚡⚡
Very nice saturation module. Dead simple too.
ControlHub, okay. Tom, Genius!
nice!
dont know if Tom mentions this anywhere.. but if you need to gate a snare that has ghost notes, and the ghost notes get lost, put a transient designer BEFORE the gate!.. it works! also improves the gate effect.
Where are the EQ and comp changes for some of these presets? It looks like there wasn't any parameter changes on the first two presets (saturation is on but nothing is changed). Do they go to a separate mixbus that we aren't seeing? I apologize I've never used STL before
The parameters won't always change between presets. ControlHub models the signal chain of the artist/engineer so you're getting simulations of different models of eq, saturation, compression, reverb and limiting. It basically condenses their go-to plugins and/or hardware units into a channel strip and allows you to do things you ordinarily wouldn't be able to do with those units ie. PEQ capabilities with something like a Manley or a Neve, frequency dependent compression on an SSL bus compressor.
Great Video, can't wait for the rest. Question seperate from the ControlHub, what Gate Plugin is being used?
Kilohearts - Gate
@@MichaelStelz thank you
It is the kilo hearts gate which comes with the slate everything bundle but keep in mind, he is triggering the gate with an outside source causing the gate to open and close
@@sethmonroe9603what?
Very interesting and a bit weird that he uses the plugin volume to mix - I believe.
Man...
If I didn't watch the video and just heard him speaking without seeing him, I would have thought it was CLA.
Their voices are so similar.
Yeah except he seems way more fun and is a much better teacher
What's the song playing in the intro?
I thought Tom's studio in Miami. When he moves to Texas?
Why does this video sound like it's at a super low bitrate?
Very new video?
i hear it too.
True. Sounds like 480p.
Same. Toms VO sounds low@@sadmachinesaudio6462
I notice that with the presets- it looks like the EQ parameters are not changing between presets. Is that normal? Is the EQ printed onto the presets and then the controlls below are to add- or is it editable directly
I've always wondered the same.
@@turboface yeah the first two presets there were no eq parameter changes...nor was the comp engaged. So what are we hearing exactly? The saturation stage? @STLTones any clarity on this?
I think the settings that change are hidden behind the video of TLA in the bottom right corner
I just wanna hang with TLA!
Super Plugin….. great tone. The best channelstrip today
But please improve the preset browser, horrible to use compared to other Plugs. But like I sad, best sounding channelstrip plug in 👍
At least it's got a browser. Imagine having to go to (opens a browser window with User Documents as the root, but the presets aren't in the root User Documents folder, so then you have to search for it). THEN you discover it's the wrong preset.
Be thankful it is as accessable as it is.
3:29 im hearing someone making popcorn.
Wow he looks like a totally new dude with that haircut. I honestly didn’t recognize him at first
he never leaves money on the streets :D :D
From the names on top of the modules, it looks like it's emulations of other brand plugins. Primarily Brainwoks stuff like BX SSL 9K saturation, AMEK EQ, Townhouse comp, but also the SSL LMC+ and Fabfilter Pro Q...
With all that analog gear available and then to find out, that this plugin seems to be some sort of "IR profiles" of other digital plugins? No wonders, that STL Tones is shy about the details, of the tech stuff behind this thing.
I agree with the other comments that the drums didn't improve that much and I doubt that we will get to hear an example, of the final mix in the next video. Definitely not a A-B shoot out, between the original mix and the one mixed with Control Hub. Like Slate did with his brothers mixing course a few years ago. 😊
Seems like you might be reaching there Columbo.
Is this Chris Lord Alge bro??
Sounded way better without any plugins actually
😂
I kind of agree.. would have loved to see a video where the drums were in context.. the song.. and THEN hear the difference. THATS what counts. Solo monitoring is fun surgical stuff.. but not for mixing. But hen again.. he makes q pretty good living doing what he does, so I guess it works for him ;-)
@@HR2635 I think it was just for the demonstration of the plugin but we all know that he mixes much better
You have to listen to it with the context of the mix
@@randomselect645
Yeah, duh.
People.
I farted into the mic
Why not adding a little bit when it sounds better? We should forget about our ego when mixing
