Finally, a proper way of looking for bad MOSFETs. I've started trying to fix ECUs for 2 months now and it bugged me really hard when i saw the experienced folks using continuity mode for checking any sort of MOSFET. Basically anything that didn't read bellow 50 ohms it was judged good and they look for problems elsewhere. Great video, definitely very informative. Also, what is that benchtop multimeter you're using? It's has a pretty dang fast auto range :D
I had my ecu rebuilt a few months ago. Explorer burnt up a different coil so I took the ecu out and apart couldn’t see any burnt chipsets. I measured what I feel was the coil drivers they all read the same prong to prong but I didn’t check the backside tab to the front prongs I’ll take it out and check again thanks
Use promocode "SAVE10" for extra 10% off cause I love doing those older ones. Specially if it needs some trace repair! Fun stuff. > keyworks.us/ford-lincoln-mercury/engine-control-module-repairs/ford-f-series-87-99-ecu-repair.html
Good video on testing the ignition IGBTs. My repairs have not gone so smoothly. The igbt driver IC seems to be turning on 3 of them at the same time, burning up the current sensing resistors. (cylinders 1,3,6) This chip appears to be discontinued and has no useful data sheet, so I cannot find a substitute. I forget the number, since the scrap of paper I scribbled it on is at work with my wrenches. I will post the number tomorrow. Are these available at all?
Do not buy igbts labeled 5503GM or the logic gate labeled 74022. These are masked numbers ford used internally. Anything aftermarket is just fake chips that may or may not work. Use updated igbt from onsemi and a compatible 7402. Buy from real supplier like digikey or mouser.
thank god i ve found you channel

@@ecurepair yes looks like the tiny traces around one of the capacitors need repaired.
Hope you send it in, Looking forward to getting it fixed up!
@@ecurepair the board says motorola 1991 how does the factory actually solder these? Looks robotic precision.
Im not sure but I assume most of it was done by pick and place machines and then wave soldered.

Ah, here it is 74022PC, the gate driver IC.
The other parts are available.

You need to turn up the volume and little bit more
I was going to in editing but this one is pretty loud on my system already. Hurt my ears when I turned it up.
