    Absolutely loved this series. Thanks for helping me relive my childhood! OOT was the first Zelda game I got to play, so it’s got a special place in my heart. I remember the chills I got when I first got to Ganon’s Tower - especially as you climb the stairs and the organ music gets louder and louder! Epic game.

    How much do we have to donate on patreon or what subscriber goal do you need, in order to create a BONUS Ocarina of Time video that quickly goes over what we know of cancelled Ocarina dungeons? Some are already "almost" fully realized. Except enemies. Like the deku tree and water temple.

    I am SAD this particular game is over, but I have enjoyed these videos so very much! Can't wait to see what's next! (I'm assuming Majora's Mask? :D)
    Also, I never realized how much of the music in Ganon's Castle resembled other dungeon themes, and that is just super cool. You never really consider (when you're a kid) the thought and detail that goes into a game like this, so realizing all of it now is really intriguing and makes me love OOT even more :)
    Thanks for all you do, Capt!

    It may be nostalgia talking, but I have no clue how so many people call this the worst final dungeon in the series. It’s far from the best, and I’d argue even Majora’s Moon and TOTK’s Gloom’s Approach are stronger, but the sheer atmosphere and buildup of the final confrontation in this dungeon is so strong. It combines a great little victory lap, a final meeting with the Sages who gave so much for you, some great combat challenges, and that entire finale that’s super fun all the way through. This is a great final dungeon, even if it’s not a top tier dungeon overall, and I’ll die on this hill

    Dude... What do you mean, you almost didn't do this dungeon??? 😝 It's definitely not the hardest temple, but it's also the climax of the game!!! Lolol my shock and outrage aside, great job analysing the music! I never took the time to think about where each component came from, that was cool. The three places where the game 'ends,' two pretend and one for real, also kind of remind me what each piece of the triforce represents... Kind of. The first phase corresponds to wisdom because you have to figure out how to hurt him, or because the focus is on the light arrows, the mad dash to escape the building requires courage, and the final battle is definitely a battle of powers in my mind. That's just my take though, and not very thought out in depth. Great job, and i can't wait for the next game!

    • @CaptBurgerson

    I'm glad you decided to do a video on Ganon's Castle since there are some people out there who don't consider it a proper dungeon. I mean, it literally has a new dungeon item, a boss key, and two bosses at the very end. What more do you need? But enough about that. I want to offer some of my thoughts on this place.
    I'll be honest, I don't particularly care for the first half of this dungeon, but it does the job well enough. In one of my previous comments, I mentioned that there were some other potentially scrapped dungeons in this game. Turns out you already gave a brief mention to the Wind Temple in this video. I feel like this is a similar case with the Ice Cavern and the Water Temple, where the Forest Medallion's pattern doesn't exactly correspond to the temple's element. It more closely resembles a whirlwind, meaning it might have originally been the Wind Medallion. Like the Snowhead Temple in Majora's Mask though, we would eventually see the WInd Temple fully realised in The Wind Waker! How fitting.
    As for the Light Barrier room, I also believe that the Temple of Light was planned to be a full dungeon at some point in development, but they had to remove it and relegated the Light Medallion to the Sage of Exposition, AKA Rauru.
    Ascending Ganon's Tower might just be one of the best buildups to a final battle in all of gaming (fighting _two_ Iron Knuckles at once? Sign me up!) The fact that the dark, foreboding pipe organ music playing in the background gradually gets louder the closer you get to the top of the tower, only for you to discover that it was Ganondorf playing _his own theme song that he wrote himself_ on an organ is not only pure genius, but one of my favourite parts of this game.
    In another timeline, none of this would be happening. You would have stopped Ganondorf's plan before he could even lay his hands on the Triforce, and life would have went on as normal for you, for Zelda, and for all the people you met during your journey. But as Sheik, now revealed to be Zelda, said before, the flow of time is always cruel. This is not that timeline. The lives of you, your friends and everyone in Hyrule have all been altered by the actions of one man: Ganondorf. It's time to end this here and now. It's time to liberate Hyrule and prevent Ganondorf from conquering the entire world. It's time to stop his evil reign once and for all.
    Unfortunately, as someone who also likes to play games to completion, the final battle with Ganondorf was shockingly easy after maxing out on everything. I'll give it points for the buildup and atmosphere though. Still think Phantom Ganon was the more difficult boss.
    Thankfully, the game makes up for that lackluster showdown with a heart-pounding chase sequence. I always panic when the Stalfos show up, and that final ReDead at the very end is just plain evil. This is followed up by a spectacularly climactic final battle.
    Ganon's entrance, at least in the original N64 version of the game, is perfect, as is his design. Shrouded in darkness, surrounded by fire and only illuminated by lighting strikes. The Demon King of Evil appears before you for the very first time in the series' chronology, and he immediately knocks your only means of defeating him out of your hands. No more boss subtitles, no more Master Sword, no more Ganondorf. There is only *GANON.*
    The fight itself is just superb, and with the context that this is the exact moment in which the Zelda timeline splits into multiple branches, one of which involves the Hero of Time falling in battle, the mood becomes all the more dire and motivates you to finally come out victorious and to create a good timeline. Not just for yourself, but for everyone.
    And you do. You vanquish Ganon. Ganondorf is sealed away in the most isolated corner of the Sacred Realm. Zelda gives you a chance to relive your lost time. And with that, the Hero of Time's journey comes to a close. Or does it?
    Okay, all the melodrama aside (I get pretty invested in writing some of these comments lol), I've thoroughly enjoyed this series so far. Your voice is pleasant to listen to, I like your analysis and writing style, and I even appreciate the low video quality of the gameplay. It helps add to the whole retro-CRT aesthetic you've got going on, which is not only subtle, but also pretty nostalgic. Speaking of nostalgia, Ocarina of Time is one of the games I hold the most nostalgia for. I'm a younger player. I first played this game 7 years ago, and 7 years later, much like Link, I returned to it. I like all of the game's dungeons, bar one, to some extent. Sure, I have my problems with this game, but that doesn't change the fact that Ocarina of Time is a fantastic game that helped shape 3D aventure games as we know them today. Despite certain qualities of the game not aging particularly well in my book, the game as a whole is a timeless classic that embodies everything Zelda is supposed to be, and will continue to live on in the hearts of many for years to come.
    I plan on watching each of your videos on the Zelda dungeons after beating them all at least once. Can't wait to hear your thoughts on the dungeons of Majora's Mask, as that game takes a very different approach than Ocarina of Time in its progression structure. Once again, thank you so much for reading these comments. Your videos deserve all the attention they get and more, so keep up the good work!

    yeah some of the speculation we have on beta oot is that
    forest was originally more wind themed (hence the medallion design)
    water was more ice themed (hence the ice cavern and medallion design)
    spirit got lights mechanics (from what we know a light dungeon was planned but never made it past paper doodles. the mechanics were reused in spirit with the light and mirror shield)

    Ganon's N64 is something else. The way he is a silhouette only lit up by the glow of Link's light arrows and the occasional crack of lightning... In my opinion it is one of the best-looking scenes of that generation, PS1 or N64. Really blows me away.

    After listening to the ambient sounds in Ganon's Castle, I appreciate more how ambient sounds really add to the overall atmosphere. That's a cool detail when it uses other ambient sounds from other dungeons - I had no idea. I wish the golden gauntlets were used more often as they are so cool when lifting extremely heavy objects. I think it would have been cool if they introduced a new mini-boss/boss before the final boss (perhaps more of a challenge) but the Iron Knuckles are really cool too. It would have been interesting if Ganondorf's fight was a bit more varied as it's very similar to the Phantom Ganon fight (like he completely changed his attack pattern and used a massive lighting attack like Aghanim.)

    • @CaptBurgerson
      @CaptBurgerson 3 роки тому +2

      I killed him too fast while recording for this one, but if the fight does last long enough he does have a stronger attack that requires the spin attack to deflect. Its a nice extra touch that separates the fight from Phantom Ganon.
      Unless you’re like me and kill him before he can whip out that move.

    • @hambartha
      @hambartha 3 роки тому

      @@CaptBurgerson I usually do that too but I'm aware of that attack, you can also use a bottle to deflect his ball lighting attacks. Even so, I think he could have had more rounds or changed things up a bit more against The King of Evil rather than just tennis - I feel exactly the same way about the final battle in Skyward Sword against Demise if you leave out the annoying avocado battles lol.

      @@hambartha yeah and overall I agree with you. Thankfully MM, WW, and TP all more or less rectify this this by giving more phases to the final boss battles. At the very least, beyond Dead Man’s Volley, the Ganon battle is really great.

      @@CaptBurgerson Agreed on all those points. Love the OoT Ganon fight, it's quite terrifying and cinematic especially when the Master Sword is knocked out of your hands and you don't have the Biggoron Sword. Hands down one of the best final fights in Zelda ever especially after the timed escape from the castle. I was however sadly disappointed by the BotW Ganon fight but here's hoping to much better boss fights in the sequel!

    So... Seeing as you cannot progress in this tower until you defeat the enemies on each level, The Boss Key makes no sense. It should have been in the lower section if they were going to use it at all, and be needed to get either the Gauntlets, or into the central tower. Having the key later makes no real sense.

      I guess I can see what you mean, but imho that hardly seems like a dealbreaker to me. By the time of Ganon's Castle, you should have beaten 8 other dungeons which will introduce puzzles to you that tease you with needing an item for. A big rock you can't lift? (oddly familiar), you can explore elsewhere, find what you need, and then come back.
