  • These FlySky FS-GR3E 2.4Ghz 3-Channel Receivers arrived in the post today so I did a quick check to make sure they worked.
    In reply to a comment here is the sequence I followed to bind the receiver to the transmitter
    FIRST switch OFF receiver and transmitter
    Check you know where the BIND plug should go on the receiver
    Insert BIND plug in the BIND position on the receiver (still switched OFF)
    Press and hold the BIND button on the transmitter
    With your finger STILL on the BIND button, switch on the transmitter
    Take your finger off the BIND button
    Now switch ON the receiver
    The light should go steady
    Switch OFF the receiver
    Switch OFF the transmitter
    REMOVE the BIND plug from the receiver
    Switch ON the transmitter
    Switch ON the receiver
    They should now be working.
    I am not endorsing these products so I suggest you do your own search as the prices and specifications will vary and the links I used will probably be out of date when you come to read this. I just list the item title and you can cut and paste it into your eBay search. It will probably work on other online stores too.

    I'd like to share how I fixed my fly sky FXI6 from the ayron channel from jittering turned out the spring tension is too loose.... You have to put a space or under the screw then the screw hits the back of the transmitter casing so you have to take a driMelll and make more room You could notice that the elevator sticks bring has more attention from the factory So you increase this tension of the spring and no more jittering when moving elevator stick!!!

    I am having a normal rc reciever .so can you tell me how to connect the servo to it so that it can automatically come in the center position after the control button is relased...actually i had tried but its not working...

    • @GrandadIsAnOldMan
      @GrandadIsAnOldMan  7 років тому

      You say a "normal receiver". Do you mean a cheap "Toy Grade" receiver where you control is just Left or Right with no proportional movement like a Hobby Grade system. If that is the case then you are out of luck. A hobby grade servo is not compatible with that sort of receiver. Toy grade works with just reversing the current flow so left has the current flowing one way and right has the current flowing the other way and the return to centre is done my a spring attached to the car bodywork. A hobby grade servo has 3 wires. the power is supplied on two of them and the third wire carries the signal from the receiver to the control board inside the servo and tells it how far to move the servo arm and in which direction. The control board inside the servo interprets that signal and turns the motor. There is a potentiometer attached to the shaft of the servo arm and the controller board measures the resistance of that potentiometer so it can tell how far it has moved and stops it at the required position. Just reversing the current into a hobby grade servo will not make it go backwards, in fact it will probably kill the controller board inside the servo. You can remove the controller board from inside the servo and connect power direct to the servo motor to drive it in each direction BUT YOU WILL NOT HAVE AN AUTOMATIC CENTRE FACILITY and the gearing in the servo will be too strong for a normal toy grade spring to return it to the middle. I will paste another reply here with my standard text on this subject.

    • @GrandadIsAnOldMan
      @GrandadIsAnOldMan  7 років тому

      My standard reply text to this type of question.
      Hi chetan ponia, thanks for commenting. LONG ANSWER now. I am afraid that standard hobby grade servos are not directly compatible with toy grade RC receivers. They work in a different way. Hobby grade servos have a 3rd wire, that is a signal wire that the receiver uses to tell the servo controller board how far and which direction to turn the armature. The controller board in the servo then turns the armature the required distance.
      Toy grade receivers just have two wires and have three signal states.
      (1) Applying the battery plus and minus on the wires turns the steering motor one way.
      (2) No battery applied allows the spring return to centre the steering.
      (3) Applying the battery minus and plus on the wires turns the steering motor the other way.
      If you connect the same two wires to an ordinary DC electric motor and apply "Left" the motor will keep spinning as long as you hold the transmitter on "Left". If you then apply "Right" then the motor will spin in the opposite direction.
      In toy grade steering the only thing that stops the motor from spinning is the mechanics of the steering so the motor is still trying to spin but the steering arm has reached stop. On a hobby grade servo the electronics measure how far the steering has turned and stops the motor electronically.
      Reversing the power feeding a hobby grade servo will probably damage the servo controller board, it certainly wouldn't make it turn the opposite way. If you remove the servo controller board and connect the output from the toy grade receiver directly to the motor inside the servo then it would go forwards or backwards like the toy grade motor but it would go all the way until it meets the internal mechanical stop inside the servo, so you would not have proportional steering. Also because the motor is heavily geared the normal spring on the toy car would not be strong enough to return the servo to the centre position when you want it to go straight, so you would be worse off than you were with the original toy grade steering. ??

    • @GrandadIsAnOldMan
      @GrandadIsAnOldMan  2 роки тому

      It is a FlySky item, so it is designed to work with FlySky controllers. You would need to look at the technical specifications for your controller to see if it is compatible. I did find the WL V911 receiver worked with my FlySky controller so maybe a WL controller might work with a FlySky receiver, but I haven't tried it, so I don't know.

    Hey I’m having an issue where I get no response from the trigger, when I swap the steering servo and each cables over from channel 1 to 2 the throttle does work but only via the steering wheel and now the trigger still won’t control the steering servo? Is the transmitter and receiver faulty? Or both

    • @GrandadIsAnOldMan
      @GrandadIsAnOldMan  5 років тому

      Let me see if I understand what you are saying
      Step by step
      1. Steering motor works when you operate the steering
      Drive motor does not work when you operate the throttle
      On the receiver you swap the drive and the steering wires over
      2. Drive motor works when you operate the steering
      Steering does not work when you operate the throttle
      In both cases nothing happens when you operate the throttle.
      So you have proved that both motors work but you cannot prove whether it is the transmitter or the receiver that is faulty.
      You are right, you cannot prove which is faulty without having another transmitter or another receiver that you know works.

    • @kadirm4924
      @kadirm4924 5 років тому

      GrandadIsAnOldMan thanks for your reply I do have another controller but it has the same issue now this either a series of very unfortunate coincidence or I have two bad controllers with the same issue I have tested both with 3 different escs 3 motors and different steering servos

    • @GrandadIsAnOldMan
      @GrandadIsAnOldMan  5 років тому

      If you have tried it with a different controller and you get the same issue then - as you say unless you have a very unfortunate coincidence - it does look like it is the receiver that is faulty. I have burned out the power transistors in many of my toy grade receivers on the drive motor output, usually by trying to drive the car through grass, the motor overheats, draws too much current through the receiver and the power transistor fails. On hobby grade receivers I have only had problems in the receivers when I have got them wet. All the power is handled by the ESC externally so when the ESC is overloaded and fails it does not affect the receiver.

    Can we use that FS-GR3E 3ch rx with Flysky fs-GT5 transmitter?

    • @GrandadIsAnOldMan
      @GrandadIsAnOldMan  5 років тому

      I cannot speak from experience as I don't have an FS-GT5 transmitter. A quick search through UA-cam videos on the FS-GT5 does look like there may be problems getting it to bind with other receivers, but you really cannot tell from peoples comments as they often just have a dislike. Your best bet is to check on one of the RC forums. To be honest they are probably cheap enough to buy one just to try it for yourself.

    • @GrandadIsAnOldMan
      @GrandadIsAnOldMan  5 років тому

      I think you mean the ESC. That is the Electronic Speed Controller used to control the electric motor. It also includes the BEC - battery eliminator circuit - which allows you to use the same battery for the motor and receiver. Systems without that feature mean you need two batteries - one for the receiver and one for the motor. In cases where you don't need a motor - maybe a glider - then you would use a BEC on it's own to ensure the correct voltage is supplied to power the receiver and maybe the servos.

      No you would not be able to simply solder a normal servo directly to the board. You say yours is burnt, I guess you mean the motor and not any of the chips. It might be possible to replace the motor but you may have trouble identifying a suitable replacement motor.

    Hi, Can i use Li-Po 7.4v battery for ESC 30A with this receiver? does it burn the receiver for this voltage?

    • @GrandadIsAnOldMan
      @GrandadIsAnOldMan  5 років тому +1

      If your ESC has the built in BEC circuitry then it will supply the correct voltage to the receiver. A battery eliminator circuit (BEC) is an electronic circuit designed to deliver electrical power to other circuitry without the need for multiple batteries. Most ESCs have this facility but read it's specification to be sure. That means that if the ESC is designed to handle a 6S LiPo battery (23v) but it is equipped with a BEC it would still deliver the 5 volts to the receiver

    • @GrandadIsAnOldMan
      @GrandadIsAnOldMan  4 роки тому

      @@alihamidiyt as far as I know virtually all hobby grade receivers are designed to work on 5 volts. They are usually powered from a special circuit in the ESC that drops the power from the main battery down to the 5 volts the receiver needs to operate. That circuit is called the BEC (battery eliminator circuit) because it eliminates the need to have a separate battery supply for the receiver. Try disconnecting the motor and just try it with the steering? If the steering works then it was the motor (or ESC). Try each of the channels connected to the steering. You could power the receiver with a single cell battery to see if it works without the ESC.

      I don't see what you need a video for, maybe I misunderstand your question. You plug the ESC into the receiver. It will have the right sort of plug to fit. It will also have a plug for the battery and another plug for the motor. They are all different shaped plugs so they cannot be mistaken. It will probably have an on/off switch too. You choose which channel you want to plug it into depending on what you are using it for. Does this work with a 7.2 volt battery?

    • @GrandadIsAnOldMan
      @GrandadIsAnOldMan  4 роки тому

      Like the majority of Hobby Grade receivers it is designed to work on 5 volts. You connect your battery to an ESC or a BEC and they provide the correct output to power your receiver. If your ESC (Electronic Speed Control) has the built in BEC circuitry then it will supply the correct voltage to the receiver. A battery eliminator circuit (BEC) is an electronic circuit designed to deliver electrical power to other circuitry without the need for multiple batteries. Most ESCs have this facility but read it's specification to be sure. That means that if the ESC is designed to handle a 6S LiPo battery (23v) but it is equipped with a BEC it would still deliver the 5 volts to the receiver. If your battery is 7.2 volts then you need a 2S ESC or BEC.
      I strongly recommend you watch the FliteTest RC Planes - beginners series. There are a couple of episodes covering the power and control systems ua-cam.com/play/PL6IuSFWz4ktvupu_gxw1vn-sjBGOkJFHV.html

      Here is the link to the Manufacturers description www.flysky-cn.com/gr3e-canshu it says 4.0 to 6.5 volts. If you are using a standard RC ESC to control your motor it probably supplies the correct voltage to the receiver. The ESC (Electronic Speed Controller) supplies the power to the motor and usually has a BEC (Battery Eliminator Circuit) included in its design to ensure 5 volts is supplied to the receiver, regardless of what voltage it is supplying to the motor. If you are interested in Radio Control I recommend watching the FliteTest RC Planes - beginners series ua-cam.com/play/PL6IuSFWz4ktvupu_gxw1vn-sjBGOkJFHV.html They talk about everything required for RC on aircraft but most of it also applies to cars and boats.

      @GrandadIsAnOldMan last question haha, trying to understand also.
      You know how alot of long range drones have Gimbal with 2 Metal Servos. (Moving cameras)
      How do those moters get controlled by the same antenna on a drone to the same transmitter and still are able to be controlled super duper long range?
      Such as the parrot Anafia drone?

    • @GrandadIsAnOldMan
      @GrandadIsAnOldMan  9 днів тому

      Each servo will be controlled by a different channel on you RC gear. On some systems they even have motion sensors set into your FPV headset so the gimbals react to movements of your head. As far as the radio gear is concerned it is just another signal sent on another channel. Going back to the start of this thread, you are commenting on a 3 channel RC receiver. That means this receiver can only control 3 things, such as throttle, elevator, and rudder. What you are talking about is way beyond the capabilities of this receiver. This reciever is on system AFHDS, wheras the fs16 is on AFHDS 2A. No worries, you can select the right system in the menu, and all will bind just as it should. In AFHDS you don't get the two way connection, ie the Rx voltage displayed on the transmitter display, but that's a small price to pay.

    yes you can recreate it. just set failsafe to full throttle first. so hold the stick in full throttle with the prop spinning. and while it is spinning you have to push the button on the rceiver and hold it. it will start blinking for 2 seconds or so and then it will stay on again. now let go of the button. ready fail safe is reprogrammed to full throttle when you loose signal. so if you let go of the stick the prop will stop again. switch off the transmitter and the prop will start spinning full throttle again. o.m.g. we have a problem. well to solve this you can set the fail safe and it works like this bla bla bla and you can show how to solve it again.

      Well it is true it is mainly for cars. but it can be more important then you think. when you are racing an rc car down a track it sometimes is necessary to brake when reaching a sharp bent in the track. throwing it into reverse will make it spin out of control. the brake function is proportional so very useful. also when driving a crawler it is very useful to have a brake. now you can descent slowly down a steep part instead of just race down. rc crawling is about control and slow movement

The only point I would make is - press and hold the bind button before you switch on the transmitter and release the bind button after the transmitter is on.
      The sequence I followed was switch OFF receiver and transmitter
      Check you know where the BIND plug should go on the receiver
      Insert BIND plug in the BIND position on the receiver (still switched OFF)
      Press and hold the BIND button on the transmitter
      With your finger STILL on the BIND button, switch on the transmitter
      Take your finger off the BIND button
      Now switch ON the receiver
      The light should go steady
      Switch OFF the receiver
      Switch OFF the transmitter
      REMOVE the BIND plug from the receiver
      Switch ON the transmitter
      Switch ON the receiver
      They should now be working

    Brilliant... is this a how to use the wrong radio for your model, and how to take 5 times longer than it should to bind your receiver. I'd leave the vid's to the pro's mate... 😂

      Perhaps you could take the time to make a video of your own to show us how to do it

      @@GrandadIsAnOldMan No thanks, i'd recomend to follow the instructions given on there website.
      You are also using an air transmitter when you need to use a land/water transmitter. They self centre the throttle so you can actually use the model properly.

      Haha, brilliant reply for somebody who cannot be bothered to back up their comment with a demonstration. I accept I am no RC expert but I do know how the transmitter works. You obviously know that for a mode 2 transmitter the left stick auto centres horizontally but not vertically and the right stick auto centres in both orientations. This suits my style of boat, car and aircraft flying. On many of my boats I use two motors with differential thrust for the steering controlled by the left and right stick. For most of the time I would set the left stick as the main speed control and the right stick would then provide the steering by varying the speed in relation to the left stick. The issue with the brake on the ESC is not a problem if I am using the right type of ESC for a boat or aircraft (no brake required) but is always a problem with this particular type of ESC with a very basic brake and no programmable features and the FlySky FST4B transmitter as it does not give the full throws required to activate and deactivate the brake effectively. A simple hazard when buying the cheapest of the cheap RC component parts. You will find I have demonstrated this in another video and for the record I do have a few "Pistol Grip" style transmitters including one I bought specifically to test out these cheap "brake" type ESCs.

    Failsafe is for nitro and petrol rc cars.

      With some ESCs if you lose the signal they go to full throttle. The failsafe prevents that. That doesn't differentiate between cars, boats, or planes. It is an ESC 'feature'.

      @@GrandadIsAnOldMan I have only ever had run aways with my older nitro a d petrol ground rc... never once has any of my brushed or brushless set ups run away if signal ic lost. They just stop.

      @@brenthumphreys5747 yes, like I said, it is a "feature" of some ESCs, not all of them. I have only noticed it a couple of times and until you commented on this old video I had forgotten about it entirely.
