    That engine clearly couldn't wait to fire back up! What a truck... It would be great to see a journey with it. Even a good clean may help keep the inspiration to do it! Keep going!

    Now that's a different video, well done to you both, that old lass has plenty of life in her.
    As for F10 , you won't see a modern engin start like that after 20yrs......dpf add blue, all sorts of sensors and wiring faults.
    My past friend Rob, would of wet his pants seeing this,
    And I would say he would of had it running round yard in a day.......
    He was one of the best in hull when with us.....old school but bloody good.
    Hope to see the F10 move and get washed then get the TLC required.
    You know, if/when you get it to spec, if you asked me to take your decker out and gave me choice of daf or F10.....I'd take the Volvo.

    Any vehicles which are old like the F10 are built better less electrical problems so more reliable and simple to fix as long they was maintained well good job you have a spare one for parts which will come in handy as didn't take much to get running after 20 years being stood outside as well i bet you can't wait to get it all done and out on the road 👍

    You will need air to work throttle brakes etc..the range change actuator on the back of the gear box often sticks out dropping or preventing air build up, known for dropping all the air when frozen..good luck with it.

    I think you will have to take the engine out and mount it on a grumble that fit that type of engine and hone the barrels because I'm guessing after that length of time there must be a load of crud in their!!!!!!!!.... and maybe you might need new rings as well......Great Video as well!!!!!!!!!!!!!😃👍

    Becky bit off advice take your ring off if you working in confined spaces,easily get it caught and rings can cause serious injury/pain to ones fingers (speaking from experience) plus you wouldnt want to damage your ring.Thatswhy people doing Liams sought of work never wear jewellery as i can be a potential hazard.

    Twenty years ago diesel was entirely mineral based, so it was much more stable than it is today. That 20 year old diesel could be better than what you get from the pump, now. There’s no veg, or other bio junk in it. Of course, there are probably chunks of rust from inside the tank, so you should certainly run it through a decent filter

    • @seamusburke9101
      @seamusburke9101 26 днів тому

      Volvos of that era had ally fuel tanks so no need to worry about rust. I'd crack the drain plug to drain any water though.

    So here in the colonies a grease nipple is also called a "Zerke" fitting after a guy named Zerkowski who invented them (I think). Anyhow, if you're worried about too many nipple references threatening your PG rating just call 'em Zerks!! Keeping an eye on yiu from New Orleans USA!!

    • @duncancremin1708
      @duncancremin1708 27 днів тому +1

      Nah, this girls a Brit. She speaks English, so they’re bleed nipples, or bleed screws. When she gets into it a bit more, she’ll talk about brake discs, not rotors, hub carriers, not knuckles and a whole raft of other original English words that somehow didn’t make it through American evolution.
      We’re right on the cusp of needing an English/American dictionary, especially for technical language, although with words like “pavement” meaning the very opposite, depending on where they’re said, it’s probably time for a general one.

    • @Jaxinnola
      @Jaxinnola 27 днів тому +1

      @@duncancremin1708 Yep!! America & Britain: two countries divided by the same language (as per Oscar Wilde, Bernard Shaw, or Churchill depending on who says it!) I was among the "Oil Field Trash" living in Scotland (1970-1981) poking about the North Sea looking for oil...Constantly trying to put "gas: in my car, Luggage in the "Bonnet" and check the oil in the "Boot." I miss looking for "birds" to "pull" especially ones with the nice Bristols!! Can't wait to watch Becky & Liam tackle these two mechanical dinosaurs and get one up and running...gota run any check my "tyres!"

    • @duncancremin1708
      @duncancremin1708 27 днів тому +1

      lol! Luggage in the bonnet would be interesting, since under the bonnet is where we generally expect to find the engine. But you illustrated my point perfectly. There’s so much scope for misunderstanding now, it’s becoming a problem. In a previous life, I used to work in a filling station and it was very common to have American tourists pull up at the gas pump and try to persuade the gas connector to fit their petrol tank filler neck. That was okay in the day time, when we had staff to go and explain, but it was a different matter late at night when I was there on my own, dealing with a queue of customers and some guy was blowing off at me for not turning on the pump for him. For the benefit of any American readers, over here “gas” is a word exclusively reserved for substances that are vapor (US spelling!) at normal temperature and pressure. So in this instance the pump labelled “Gas” dispensed a propane/butane mixture at very high pressure. Not at all suitable for a gasoline powered vehicle. Those are still to be found in larger stations, in the cities, so I imagine it’s still an issue, though I have not worked in that capacity for over 30 years, now.

    • @Jaxinnola

      @@duncancremin1708 Yep Should have mentioned that my first car was a 65 Hillman Imp!! Paid about 75 quid for it in 71 Rear engine so it was a problem trying to put my luggage in the "boot" that I was used to having in the rear of the car..Loved that little car..barely passed its MOT..barely passed any other car on the road going over 50!! Had a litany of other motors over the years (Ford Zephyr..Simca..Datsun (75 510 estate)...Triumph Spitfire and last (my favorite) Rover 3500 P6 with the V-8...plus a couple of Triumph Bonnevilles T120R's...BTW, Liam is clearly a detail oriented mechanic (fitter?) as noted by his tidying up the threads on the grease nipples and clutch actuator!! Oh yeah, gas versus petrol..we had a "gasometer" storage facility on the outskirts of Inverness as I recall....cheers!
