You forgot the true budget option of the calibrated Maf. 302, tfs heads, 255 pump, vortech, 42lb injectors and a btm. I may be leaving hp on the table but the car has been running smooth and trouble free for years like this.
Willie at dirty dirty racing still tunes Binary Editor and QH and my car has never had that problem ever weird. Also, he sends the tunes through email so you will always have em. But make sure when you buy Binary Editor buy lifetime issue because laptops die and you have to spend more money buying it again lol. This is why i went Gen3 10r80 in my foxbody and it rips and runs perfect ice cold a/c and no problems at all. Coyote for life lol
@brew2l, this is why I got the Jaybird (burns the tune to a chip) and a chip. The QH is mainly to tune the car, not really to stay in permanently, because of the battery issue like you mentioned, I’ve been in the same boat lol.
Its always been told to me that the 9AL is a self learning computer. Ive had many many fox body mustangs and with blowers, no tune and been fine. If my Mustangs were supercharged, I set the timing at 10° and up my fuel pressure. Now with field pressure every car is different. So that is something I just feel. Very good drivability .
Since day 1 i got my fox i knew i was gonna change out that old factory ecu. I personally went with an MS3 gold box since i knew i was gonna go turbo and wanted a few extra inputs and outputs and till this day no regrets. Been learning tuning myself little by little. The microsquirt ecu is a great entry level for a fox, it will do everything you need. And Andrew is 100% right, Holley terminator X is the best when it comes to user friendly.
I'm in the middle of assembling a speeduino for my 96. $200 could get you everything needed. It uses tuner studio just like the megasquirt, won't be as easy as a pnp but saves a lot of money. I'm getting a v6 ecu just to hollow it out and try to hook this up to the correct pins internally so I can swap back to my stock if needed. Thinking about making a video about it
This is why when my ecu died and I really needed an ecu that could be tuned and looking at all the options. Price point parts availability and the fact I daily my fox. I chose a Holley carb. If you know what you’re doing with a carb they are perfectly streetable. And I have over the counter parts available to get it back on the road. Now with the very limited and kind of exotic aftermarket options I think we will see more carbed foxes than ever. It did pain me to do it after years of arguing for keeping them efi.

Believe it or not it runs great and works well, I know im leaving a little on the table, but to me its a small price to pay to be era correct i suppose. Term X for the win , I f i need to switch it up, it will be termi X for me
Core Tuning....Adam Marrer. He was one of the founders and still tunes. The Quarterhorse is supposed to be for tuning, then you burn the tune to a chip.
could have sworn I saw another company making those chips that moates used to make, and there are several options out there for ecu options its crazy LOL It all depends on what you want, what car car is used for, and all that good stuff. You can pick up good used stand alone ecus cheaply under 1000 for the ecu, ecumasters is a wicked ecu with a lot of features and 3 models of ecus starting at $800, holley of course, haltech can be picked up 2nd hand at a good price, emtron ecus which are up there with motec ecus but cheaper. But, you'd have to make a jumper harness or full harness. I've messed with most of the software for these as I'm upgrading my unit and they aren't hard to use. Also depends on if your tuning it or if your going to a tuner as well.
You think tuning a fox body is bad. Try a SN95 (94-95). There’s almost no support on the cheaper mega/ Microsquirt. So that leaves Holley ecu’s plus the $700 adapter just to keep the stock wiring. I’m almost ready to get rid of my cobra and find a roller fox body.
It IS a megasquirt3 after all :) ...had I known these were out there, I would have bought one instead of the MSPNP that I have now (it's MS2 based, less powerful than the MS3).
I have 95 GT and i want to make it less slow I bought an explorer intake but so far that's it, but now I'm thinking is carb swap the ticket... I can cost over a couple thousand to hop up EFI, $800 intake $300 throttle body, $? injectors, $350 upgraded fuel pump then a $1000+ for stand alone... Or $250 intake $500 carb and done! Same or potentially more power... If going boost EFI prob the way to go but for an na street beater? Would Andrew go carb swap again if he did it over?
Go carb, put on a nitrous plate, and an electronic ignition device to pull timing of your choice. You can spray these motors with 150shots all day and have a blast whopping on newer cars.. I hope you have someone to help you learn how to read spark plugs, fuel pressure & afr's..
I have a megasquirt sitting in the shop because of whacky idle and jerking at low speeds in town, now granted I do have a b21 cam/afr heads/rpm2 intake/70tb/24lb inj's/bullet meter but the car never ran right. I gave some thought about the mega issues and thought there is no reason I cant make the car run right with the stock computer as back in the day I had a custom grind Bennet cam which had way more duration and under 480 lift as I raced that car in the old FFW Trophy Stock Class and that car idled and ran great with the stock computer albeit playing with fuel pressure settings/tps/timing. So I pulled the mega and stuck the a3m back in the car and used the old tricks and the car idles great with no issues of surging/jerking and you yourself can attest to that as you heard my '93 reef blue coupe idling while i was talking to some other folks when I pulled down to show Brent the old unopended mac pro chamber I got that saturday at fordtakeover. Now granted I'll be the first to say I most likely should hook a afr gauge up to just see where thats at now and without question a real tune would help the car but so far it runs fine and I do have a new moates sitting in a a9l if I wanted to go that route but for now the car has been fine.
Have factory a9l went for a couple hundred mile cruise parked couple hours didn’t wanna start started drove 5 miles home next day no start finally got it started super rough idle just dumping fuel 10:1 at idle injectors good just replaced sensors having a9l rebuilt now if that’s not it maybe the tune need reflashed ..
That's certainly sounds like an issue with the ECU, I've seen a few of them do that personally, the fuel pump doesn't turn off with key on, and just floods the cylinders.
Just paid $24k for a 92 50k original mile original paint 2 owner Calypso 5.0 5spd hatch. 1 of 588 in 1992. and yes, I ONE HUNDRED % intend on driving it. lol

Watch out for the dual sync distributors, unfortunately a lot of failures. I believe the Termx does have a couple traction control strategies now. I run Coil near plug setup and traction control on my ms3 PNP it works very well using front abs speed sensor (94-04 spindles) and transmission vss comparison. Should be able to do the same or similar on the termx but i believe the strategy for it "perfect pass" vs two actual sensors

There is a support for this product. They do a ton of remote tuning. BTW, your Holley system isn't without it's issues. Run the battery low and try to start it, it can wipe the tune and also corrupt the PROM. Holley knows, but is keeping it quiet.
selling my red fox body for 18k obo cant drive it the 120miles to and from work. it needs to go runs and drives with ac and black interior car has 91k miles
Apparently it's very easy. I'm suprised more people don't use it. Comparable in price and ive read it's the best. Would make a great video to try it out.
@@BREW2LFOXBODYI personally own and use a Pro M. There is really no actual tuning to be done. While it is pricy, all I did was hook it up and enter in some basic info. As long as you’ve got good injector data and a good MAF transfer data sheet, you’re good to go.
So pretty much if your mustang is in stock form it’s not going to run, I’ve been doing the base idle reset every way possible, runs good one day next it’s all to crap
Buy a new TPS, (throttle position sensor) its probably going out and will cause erratic signals causing erratic idle characteristics and eventually rev hang, I used to always keep a spare in my glove box, prob used to change 1-2 a year..
@@Clutch_Kick187 yeah I thought about buying a new tps an a iac, an try that, my idle was good, but it would bog down when ya got on it, took the mass air flow out cleaned it and that fixed the bogging down, then this idling problem started
