I can tell you were born around when these games were released. Anyone old like me who played these in the Stone Age would not call these overrated. Except maybe DKC. and MK1 can’t be overrated because everyone hated it for being censored.
Id give money if i had it to give. Because i appreciate the gusto. And i like idea of funding those that disagree w me. Because its like promoting individualism. 🥰
DKC is not as flawed as you say. The level design, enemy placement and speed is based around the closer camera perspective and it controls very well. My main criticism is that finding secrets (not just completing the levels) involves finding lots of invisible stuff. That's not my idea of 'fun times'.
@@Fortefyre DKC1 and DKC2 are my favourites. I would probably choose the original because I prefer horizontal levels. DKC2 is less 'left to right' and seems to be more popular. Both are great 🙂
DKC was really fun back in the day. Man that soundtrack was just so catchy. Games don't have music like they used to back in the Snes days. It's a lost art form
You pretty much listed almost every single one of my favorite super Nintendo games. I love how you say I didn’t grow up playing any of these. It really shows. These games were amazing when they came out and you really had to grow up playing them.
I didn't expect to agree on most of these as much as I actually did. My only big "oh fuck you" moment was #6 Secret of Mana. There are very few games on this console that I'd rather play, and I find it quite *underrated* all things considered. At least to me, this game truly set the stardard for action rpgs, and did just about everything right. It has a world that still to this day, feels quite massive, imaginative, extremely diverse, and is just a pleasure to travel through... it was very rare that a game world felt this vast to me until the 32-bit era. The story is perfectly fine for an jrpg released in the first half of the 1990's, which were mostly incredibly generic by today's standards (something quite unfair to hold them to). And maybe I'm just lucky or play it as its designers intended, because I've never found the AI characters getting stuck often at all, surely not often enough to be bothered by it. I've always found the characters generally react and attack as they should. While the AI characters are on the passive side, I actually prefer it that way because it would be too easy otherwise, and combat in this game is incredibly satisfying.
I welcome the "oh fuck you's" It's lovely to hear another opinion on a topic, you will never be judged here for it :) Thank you for sharing your insight!
Well done, even if you made my mouth drop open in shock/disgust half the time 😂😂 Usually i dont like videos that make my heart hurt, but your delivery and rationale were all great. Nice video!
I do like 16-bit, but I prefer the SNES. Genesis to me had many copy and paste styled games. I'll try to beat more snes games so I can make a list, but off the top of my head, Hagane is one I recommend.
@@Fortefyre Woah, 16-bit is much more than SNES and Genesis. There was also PC Engine and Neo Geo, along with 16-bit home computers like the Amiga and arcade boards like Capcom CPS and Namco System 2. Pretty much every system released in the late 80's and early 90's. Also, i cannot think of a copy and paste game on the Genesis.
I ranked the top 100 snes games, didn't include Super Ghouls and Ghosts, and don't think I received a single comment about it. I really think it's just a couple retro game youtubers (gamesack) who really like it propping that game up
Yeah who is putting Super shost and Ghouls in their 10 top let alone fifty games? It's just too hard for most people to enjoy. It's not a fair or fun game even. I'd imagine it's a fairly poorly rated game outside of it's cool atmosphere, soundtrack and graphics. I'd assume the majority of people never beat the first lvl legitly, and those who did beat it back in the day used the cheat to go right to last boss and win. Unless it was the only video game you owned you probably were playing something else.
You got the guts to do it though hahaha. Not everyone is going to love the same games and that's ok. That's why there are almost 1800 snes games for people to enjoy. I like seeing different takes on games
@Fortefyre u prolly could have got away with tossing FF2 on the list though. The story of that game was japanese rpg drivel but such a ground breaking rpg and bomb soundtrack. Definitely overrated by nostalgia filled fans though.
I’ll give you the other nine. I don’t necessarily agree all of them are overrated, but I can understand why somebody does. But Link to the Past? Nope. Unless you are going to say “people claim this is the best game ever, but it’s only the second or third best.”
Mario Kart 8/Deluxe is the 6th best-selling game of all time, the #1 best selling Switch title and the #1 racing game in U.S. history, but kart racing is a "niche genre"?
@@FortefyreCartman is actually correct in this case. A niche genre doesn’t mean a genre in which few games exist in said genre, it means a genre that appeals to a small group of people. “Niche: (adj) denoting products, services, or interests that appeal to a small, specialized section of the population.”
While you are entitled to your opinion I couldn't disagree more with your pics. So many of these games are revolutionary in what they did not to mention all time greats for the time. Different ages create differing opinions you would have need to lived in the era.
@alessandrobaggi6129 yeah, that's all great, but having to fight an enemy that you can't escape from over and over again is just terrible. And the combat is pretty ok; I will always agree with that
I honestly think gamers especially UA-cam gamers just LOVE using the word generic to the point where it's immensely overused, they just use it for the sake of using it lol. Literally every gaming UA-cam channel out there now over uses that word in every video they make.
Donkey Kong Country was revolutionary for the time. It was a major improvement for the Donkey Kong series; especially with the introduction of animal buddies (with the system improved in DKC2). Also, the ability to throw the AI controlled character in different ways in the sequels depending on which character you're in control of. While Mario vs DK could be considered the spiritual successor to the old DK games, it's the DK Country games I feel are the ones that shine. The first DKC was graphically impressive for the time; though no doubt the sequels are refined in that department (especially the backgrounds for DKC3). Although I'll say I prefer the GBA remake (also the same for DKC3) over the SNES original; even if it has inferior sound quality and much brighter colors (done due to the OG GBA having no front or back light). Not only does it have a more convenient save system, but also improved most of the boss fights. Though I doubt it'll improve your opinion of the game. While I prefer almost all of the sequels, I still like Super Mario Kart more than Super Circuit; especially as the later feels even more slippery. I love Yoshi's Island (along with Woolly World). Yoshi's Island DS is also generally a good time. However, Super Mario World is still a refinement of SMB3. Also, I can't agree with you saying Mario has lost all charm. Besides, of course Nintendo would keep Mario around. He's Nintendo's biggest gold mine and a very flexible IP when it comes to genres. Earthbound; along with the original, had unique settings for RPGs back in the day. It helps Earthbound ditched the traditional HP system in favor of the rolling HP system; making the sequel more forgiving. Sadly, it sounds like you wouldn't like Mother 3 despite being visually the prettiest. Although it'd be fair for you to really not like the original installment; especially the original Japanese release. On another note, the reason Earthbound didn't sell well was because of terrible advertisement. The combat for A Link to the Past hasn't aged THAT much. We like the top down-games (especially A Link Between Worlds) due to the dungeon designs and acquiring equipment and using them to not only be able to navigate through more of the dungeons but also gain more options to combat against enemies. Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons even take different approaches with their dungeons; Seasons is more on combat while Ages is focused on puzzle solving. Speaking of the Oracle games, I quite like their art style (same with Link's Awakening DX). As for story in A Link to the Past; it's more than the first two Zelda games which had REALLY bare bones in-game stories. Heck, the story in Link's Awakening DX is actually kinda interesting (there's basically no reason to play the OG GameBoy release of Link's Awakening. Same for Wario Land 2; just go with the GBC version). A Link to the Past also returned to the original formula while bringing back the magic meter from Zelda 2; so it was an appreciated return to form at the time. Side note, you REALLY should've imposed a "don't hold my hand" rule for your streaming of A Link to the Past. I like Super Ghouls N' Ghosts more than Genesis Ghouls N' Ghosts and the NES version of Ghosts and Goblins. Either way, the series is not forgiving.
#10 DKC. You came out swinging with that pick. Hats-off, sir. edit: #7 Super Mario World. When I saw that, I just started hearing "SHOTS FIRED! SHOTS FIRED!"
I'm glad you're speaking out your mind. Although i enjoyed some games from this list, I know what it's like forcing yourself to beat a game the majority considers a must play. Life's too short to attmept to enjoy things others tell you to like even if you don't.
Having not finished watching yet, what's #1? Super Metroid? EDIT: Well, Super GNG is arguable, but #2 ALttP? Definitely some trolling hot takes going on.
actually... super mario world has a much more tight gameplay than super mario bros 3. it really perfected how mario controls and I guess that's what makes it so special.
Wait.. the snes mortal kombat games had fatalities if i remember correctly. I used to own them but did so way back when they were released. They didnt have blood but everything else was there.. right?? And outside of that i actually think they looked and played better than their sega counterparts.
You should do underrated lists I'm genuinely curious. I'm not sure if you really feel like these games are overrated or just want to roast sacred cows to get a response, but either way I'd enjoy seeing what you feel is underrated just to compare and get where you are coming from better.
I was, and still am, bad at MK. 😅 I love the story, mood and aesthetics of the serie, but the clunky moves' execution always prevented me from getting good at it... I love playing FGs, except MK and SB. 😅
Most of these games defined my teenage years. But you're a funny guy and for some reason I'm entertained by those who whose opinions differ from the mainstream...so it's all good! 😝
Super Mario World is a HUGE step up from Super Mario 3. The control is far more spot on, and Yoshi himself makes the game shine far more than Super Mario Bros 3 ever did.
Turned off after listening to your first title and its explanation. Donkey Kong Country was revolutionary during its time for the graphics and music. If you had grown up during this time, you would know of what came before it and how it helped keep the SNES alive for a few more years. Have the years diminished its overall attriveness to return to a bit, sure, but to then call it overrated for what it did for the system is just wild.
Surprisingly I actually agree with your assessment of over-rated (not bad) on many titles in this video, except LOZ A Link to the Past. Really good video and I just discovered your channel and I am enjoying it.
I’m not very experienced with the SNES besides RPGs, but as far as overrated SNES games, my vote is for Super Castlevania IV. It just feels like it takes away what I love about the series, and while a good game, is not the peak of the series like some people claim. Also hard agree that Mario 3 is better than Mario World Earthbound I think is pretty fun. Sure it’s not on the level of Dragon Quest or Tactics Orge, but for what it is, I think the gameplay is fun enough that the quirkiness brings it up a lot. But then again, I’ve enjoyed the RPGs I’ve played on the system, so maybe I’m just biased towards RPGs.
Thank you for your informed insight! I appreciate you taking the time to explain stuff, and to provide your opinion! Have you checked out Bahamut Lagoon on the Super Famicom? It's great!
@@thomasffrench3639 Ah well talking about rolling HP, stat overflow, condiment glitch, and food being pretty useless. The point was that it's funny so the quirky combat is forgiven.
@@Fortefyre Chrono Trigger is my favorite but I believe some of that is because of nostalgia. I am playing Chrono Trigger+ with the MSU1 enhancement for a different experience. I am definitely enjoying it and find the differences interesting. That said, when I take my rose tinted glasses off, it doesn't feel as magical as it did when I was a young teenager finding it for the first time and being mesmerized. Even if someone were to play it today, I think they could find things to like and find interesting but it's not mesmerizing compared to what we have now.
a lot of these games (especially star fox) have aged badly but were mindblowing when they first came out. The SNES version of MK1 everybody agrees blew goats
I had 7 out of the 10 games on your list when I was a kid. I agree with SMW. Even as a kid I prefered SMB 3 and still do. As for Zelda you have to play it blind to get the most out of it
I really enjoyed the video and like that everyone has a different opinion. I grew up on these games and the at the time it was exceptional to see the progression from console to console. To go from NES games, which was my first real console, to these games was mind blowing. Anyone around 40 years old or over like me will forever see these games through a nostalgic lens. All the games you mentioned were incredible and revolutionary, at the time. I wouldn’t expect anyone younger to truly understand. If I were 16 years old now I’d probably think they are all terrible games.
I don't get the hype for Secret of Mana either. It feels extremely clunky and it's WAY too difficult in the early game. Why would you make your early game tiger boss more difficult than the endgame bosses? Killer soundtrack though.
I never seen a SNES but one of the very first things I heard about it is that it had crappy censored MK1 port. I'd say if people whose country didn't have a Nintendo console until Switch knew that Mortal Kombat on SNES is shite, it's far from overrated or even rated positively at all. P.S. Good video and your criticism of MK is on point, it's just I never heard anything positive about SNES port of the first game to qualify it for overrated, like if everyone craps on the game, how is it overrated? Or are they not crapping hard enough or something? XD
I'm not the only one who thinks that Donkey Kong Returns and Tropical Freeze are the peak of platformers. Some say they are the best of all time, and they are not far from right. Those games took direct inspiration and the base gameplay from the SNES Donkey Kong titles. For me they are the most replayable titles from the system and I enjoy all of them very much, specially the first and third.
Not gonna lie man…I found this video by searching for you playing a specific game…Super Ghouls N’ Ghosts. I still want to beat it very badly, BUT I agree with your take 99%
Time to grab some popcorn and watch the comments go insane. It is interesting what a lack of nostalgia can do. I never played the N64 back in the day, so I could probably make a similar list of all of your favourites.
N64 one of the worst aged systems. The 32/64 bit era had some of the worst graphics for 3D games.(2D games like MMX4 look great still.) I'd rather played any other version or a port than the N64 version for the overwhelming majority of titles. It has a controller made for a person with 3 arms. The camera angles often were the worst enemy in these games. I gave away my N64 to my brother in law a year ago or so during the last time I visited him. He was all excited about playing Golden eye as he bought a used copy a store despite not having the system anymore. I made sure bring him mine as I would never miss it as it sat in the duffle bag I brought it for over a decade. I gave him it with all my games. The least I can do for him putting up with my younger sister for past 20 years haha.
I respect that you have so much courage to put this video out. So many hot takes. You totally embody the notion of saying and doing what you want and not giving a damn about what others think. I get why your opinion is your opinion for some of the explanations on the games but damn thats a lot of courage to put so much targets on you. 😂 Respect though.
I was 8 when the SNES came out so I gotta disagree with all this. When each game came out, it was literally the best they've ever done graphically and what not. But if I played these for the first time now I'd probably hate them too
@Fortefyre I understand. We were lucky as shit to have one. As a third grader, I remember this second grader got one. We'd play at his place and loved it. I think my parents hated that shit and decided to buy us one too, for Christmas
I just think you have terrible taste in snes games. MK totally agree. Ghouls N Ghost doesnt fit the overrated definition, it was never super popular or widely acclaimed to begin with.
I guess, but the important part is to know that I can only rate games based on what I've played, and I offer a candid opinion on it. I hope you enjoyed the video despite the takes!
Welcome bro I gotta say I can’t disagree I played all these when they came out still play most of them to this day thanks to the snes classic I especially agree w your dkc views if not for the soundtrack it really is just mediocre side scroller I think tbh it’s the nostalgia for that time that makes these rate so highly
You are, of course, objectively wrong about A Link to the Past, as that's one of the best games ever made. But other than that and Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts (which I honestly don't think all that many people really enjoy and rate highly), I can agree with this list. :-P
Earthbound and Link to the Past are not overrated, they hold up extremely well today, and I don't agree in the slightest that Earthbound has a generic story. At the time, and still to this day, what is generic for JRPG's is when they're blatantly made in the vain of Chrono Trigger, and Final Fantasy. Earthbound was incredibly original at the time by not just being another generic fantasy RPG, but was instead kind a caricaturized view of America, kind of like Grand Theft Auto. I will say that I agree that Mario World is overrated, because Yoshi's Island is just so much better of a game than World on so many levels, such as art direction, but Mario World is still an S tier game. That just shows you how good of a game Yoshi's Island is.
I gotta say, it is pretty gutsy to mention some of the classics in this video. Although I don't agree with many of your choices, I am with you 100% in your #1 choice. It's like these new "impossible" Mario stages made in Mario Maker. As long as you memorize the pattern of how the stage goes you will be fine. Granted, it's gonna take a lot of work but in the end it all relies on memorization. And where's the fun in that? I also wonder how many dislikes this video has?
Thank you lol. It's not a fun video to make because someone somewhere will feel upset about it. It's subjective at best. I think its about 80% thumbs up if I recall.
I really expected to disagree with you, but all the points you brought up about games I like were totally valid, and as a snes kid I have a lot of nostalgia for these games. Great video.
The only game on the list I really reacted to was ZAMN but on reflection I do agree with you it’s a great game that as a solo affair is just too drawn out
I agree with Earthbound, Starfox, MK1, and Zombies Ate my Neighbours being overrated. But it hurts my heart to see Link to the Past on this list. But it's all personal opinion of course.
I agree on smw, its just a watered down smb3. It even has the same bosses. Mario kart has aged like my grandma, not well. Earthbound is just a bad rpg with a cool gimmick. I don't agree on donkey kong country and secret of mana both are amazing but i respect. Your opinion I would add super metroid. The wall jump is very annoying to pull of and the game is just not as good as say a metroid fusion. Its very basic with bad level design.
Super Mario Kart's still better than Super Circuit and Mario Kart Tour. As for Super Metroid; the wall jump's one of the only things that would need to be tinkered with in an updated version. Otherwise, I'd prefer a Fusion remake. That's something the Dread developers wanted to do before working on Metroid Dread.
You never need use the Wall Jump to beat Super metroid. It's extra move that helps get to some stuff early, but if you hate doing it, you can leave items still you get the space jump to reach anything it would have gotten you. I replay Super metroid on my Snes mini, and there's a delay that makes wall jumping harder to pull off. I just make it a point only go for items that I only need bounce off the once or twice till I get the space jump. You can definitely get 100% in the game without walljumping though.
Super Mario World 1 is still perfect... way better than Mario 3, open world map options, secret back door to the bowser castle to finish the game in 17 minutes... this game is unrivaled and lost ZEDRO of its qualities... you must be what 28-30 max?
You don’t suck at Mortal Kombat. The game code is on an extreme cheat scale so everyone sucks. I can’t remember who did a video but someone decompiled the code and discovered that there’s a rapid acceleration of the CPU player cheat algorithm.
What it does is everytime you advance a fighter in the tree it applies a weighted chance such that even if played by a bot that always performed frame perfect attacks and defenses there was X chance your block or attack would fail. What’s even worse is X advances on an insanely high curve such that even a bot has a better chance of gaining self awareness than it does reaching much less defeating the top boss.
Donkey Kong Country was technically a revolutionary title for the time. At the time all the talk-of-the-town was BITS and GRAPHICS. Nintendo was feeling the sweat as Sega, 3DO, Atari and soon Sony was banging the door with improved hardware tech and Nintendo was far from ready for there next step (the N64), and there rushed side-project to bee the Virtual Boy would prove to be a DOA. Then Rare comes along and togehter with there usage of movie CGI tech and the RX chip, they could on original SNES hardware give the "illusion" of 3D graphics - and it bloody worked! The WHOLE WORLD dropped there jaws of how awesome the graphics and sounds was. In hindsight, yes you can make the argument that DKC is a basic platformer game, but that would be a diservice. Heck that is what Nintendo guru Shigeru Miyamoto commented to Rare when his Yoshi Island recieved less praise then DKC, that people only liked it more because of the graphics but gameplay offered nothing new! Also with-out Rare and the Stamper bros, the Donkey Kong franchise would likley not exist today. Super Mario World (?) That is an INSTANT sucsess that can't fail. That is THE Super Mario game that is always most fun to go back too. It is easy to get back into, the variety is nice and overall holds most RE-VALUE of playing again out of ALL Super Mario games. It just can't fail.
I can someone coming from an N64 and thinking these games are overrated. You have to keep in mind how cutting edge these games were at the time. There was nothing else like the first Zelda, and it was such a treat to play the overhead style again after Zelda 2. I do agree with Zombies, MK3, and I can appreciate where you're coming from with Earthbound, and your comment about the AI in Mana is also correct, they should have fixed that.
I do have a slight bias, but, I am approaching these cognitively. There are games I've played from the 70s and early 80s that I've rated exceptionally high, like the first 3 zork games.
That's interesting that you like the first 3 Zorks cuz they are pure text. The later Zork games have graphics. Do you like Myst or Real Myst? I like a lot of early arcade games and even Atari 2600 games- a lot of the Activision and Imagic games hold up pretty well today...even something as primitive as Adventure I still enjpy every now and then.
I'm playing Zelda a Link between Worlds, another game that took inspiration and plays incredibly very similar to the one from SNES. That game is considered the best original game of the 3DS. I think your experience was ruined with A Link to the Past, because the joy of that Zelda is figuring out how everything works, being the dungeons the highlights.
A bit surprised that SMW2 is not on this list. As a game it's quite a bit less good compared to SMW. The levels are long-winded, sometimes it's downright boring and it's not as creative as SMW.
I agree. Aside from the beautiful visuals, bosses & music, I found Yoshi's Island kinda boring. My biggest issue are the levels, difficulty & length. It starts off pretty good for the first 3 worlds. But once you get towards the 2nd halve, that's where it becomes too overwhelming. The levels are very big & spacies, aren't very interesting and unique that stands out. The game throws in random enemy placements and other obstacles that you couldn't react and gets annoying to protect Baby Mario or Yoshi from losing an live. The 100% completion is obnoxious and isn't even worth it. And the levels goes on for way too long. Especially with those darn auto scrolling levels. It tries to much to make an linear game with open scope to explore & collect. But it was very overbloating. I think DKC Trilogy handles all of that far better than Yoshi's Island has. And as far as best Yoshi game goes, I think Wolly World does it the best.
You have committed the internet SI by taking a side or having an opinion. I will alert your next of kin. You will be missed 💐 . In all seriousness, I miss when more people on UA-cam made / UA-cam promoted videos like this were people were more open with there video game opinions without beating around the bush. I immediately liked and subbed after watching. First vid i seen so far of yours too wich i usually don't sub that quick, so great job , you nailed it ! 👍
I know I'm late, but I'm glad you were willing to make a list that you knew would make some mad. I enjoy most of the games on the list, but the only ones i can't see being overrated in some way are super mario world and Zelda. Either way, it's all subjective like you said
You started out throwing heat! I love the DKC series and the first two are better platformers than Super Mario World, imo. I can't stand Secret of Mana, so I completely agree there. I also agree with Mortal Kombat, I'm terrible at fighting games and I've never been a big fan of Mortal Kombat. I prefer 3D Zelda games over 2D so I agree with ALTTP. I actually prefer A Link Between Worlds. Super GnG is on of my top 10 SNES games, I love it. Two games I think are very overrated are Chrono Trigger and Yoshi's Island. I'm not a huge fan of RPGs so I never make it far into Chrono Trigger. Yoshi's Island is just boring to me.
You should just replace the title of the video with "Top 10 soundtracks of the Snes" and keep your list the same except put FF3 at number 1 and you are set. These games aren't overrated if you'll recall these are 30 year old games. They were all the best in class back in the olden days.
I understand, it's not easy to make these videos, they are subjective. As far as the soundtracks, there are better ones, I actually have a video about it :)
Wow LTTP shocked me being on the list. Did you play it back when it first released. The game truly just touched me in a way no other game had when it released. But if you weren't there for it at the time then yeah I could certainly understand it not doing anything for you. The sense of discovery in LTTP was second to none and had my favorite rendition of hyrule to this day
I saw DKC and thought “OK, yeah I agree, this might not be a bad list”, as soon as I saw Mario Kart, I immediately thought that this guy either never owned a snes when this released or had no friends growing up because it is to this day one of the greatest multiplayer games of all time. The list only got worse from there … SMW and Secret of Mana?? Are you high?
Yeah but there are specific reasons why I feel like those games aren't for me. Thanks for watching and taking the time to express your opinion though, I truly appreciate it!
Okay man I am a recent sub to your channel (yesterday) and you have the hottest takes I think I've ever seen. It almost seems like it's a gimmick... except I tend to agree with you more often than not. ESPECIALLY ON GOLDENEYE. Keep doing you man. I'm enjoying it
Yeah, and it's not a gimmick believe it or not. I'm a modern kid (32) playing games I missed out as a kid, and I try to keep an open mind to how it would have existed back then, but sometimes I struggle with finding the fun in certain games lol.
It sucks people ruined A Link to the Past for you. I have so many fond childhood memories of the original 3 Zelda games. Back then we didn't have guides or the internet where we could just look stuff up. We might be lucky to get a hint from a real life friend on how to do a certain part. It felt sort of collaborative in that respect. It took most of us YEARS to beat some of these games that people just casually run through in a few hours now.
If Super Metroid is on here I stg I will be sad for a few minutes Edit: thank goodness, now I was only sad for a few seconds from some of the choices lol. Not that there’s any real reason to be, just your opinion and you gave good reasons why!
I admire your balls for putting Link to the Past, Super Mario World, Mario Kart, and DK Country on this list. Your complaints about those games aren't wrong, but for me, they do too many things right for me to consoder them overrated. I feel your other overrated game picks are justified...Mortal Kombat, Zombies Ate My Neighbors, Super GnG, Star Fox, Secret of Mana, and even EarthBound.
Wow. Lots of bad takes on here. Either calling some of the best games on the snes overrated, or calling games that people often speak of as not being as great as overrated.
I know, right. When have you ever seen anyone claim that Zombies ate my Neighbors was a stand out game? It was a good game, I actually owned it. However, it was never touted as one of the greatest ever.
@@FortefyreI would have ACCURATELY named the video. MY (Fortefyre's) personal opinion of what SNES games are over rated. Or does honesty not get you as many clics / views? Having personal preferences is fine. Touting them (mislabeling) as anything other than that is shady.
I definitely agree with your opinion on smw. Agree with most of your opinions Actually. I like how you said you appreciate super mario kart for starting a franchise but isnt that fun to play today. In my opinion if you want to start with a mario kart play mk64 if you get some friends or family together its a blast. Especially the battlemode. Dont agree with all your opinions but still great video!
I'm a little different with Super Mario Kart. I use to play it for hours with my cousins. But we hated Mario Kart 64. I beat the entire game in 1 day. Gold in every cup. And we didn't like the Vs
I agree with Donkey Kong Country, the first Mario Kart, Mortal Kombat and Star Fox.......... The rest of the games on this list I believe the awesomeness matches the hype. Although I agree with the problems in Secret of Mana and zombie ate my neighbors, I will say that the pros outweigh the cons by far. Never mind Secret of mana having a messed up AI companion system, the rest of the game is damn near a masterpiece. Earthbound is a very dope Game, I just think it doesn't suit your personal taste. Super Gouls and Ghosts isn't really a bad game it's just hard as s***.
@@Fortefyre yeah it's just a matter of taste on some of the games. You may never like them 😊. I never liked Star Fox but people swear it's one of the best of all times 🥱 lol
Some of these I agree with you. Some I don't, I played Earthbound last summer and it brought me back in time and I smiled all the way through. I absolutely loved it even though Im not from America. We missed it in Europe unfortunately. Personally, I had The Secret of Evermore and I loved that game, didn't mind Mana but I didn't think it was as good. I suppose if you grew up with certain games you tend to have bias towards them 🤷♂️
I don’t agree with most of this but I’ve always hated Mario Kart. All of them lol. You’re killing me by putting Earthbound on here though. This game is one of the best ever SNES games. And ALTTP?? That’s one of the best Zelda games ever made man!
Y'all do you, but like I think you're straight up wrong about DKC and LTTP. The DKC series literally gets (unjustly, but still) clowned on for having "too many" level gimmicks. Although I'll say 1 might still qualify, as revolutionary as it is, hiding most bonus rooms behind leaps of faith or identical walls as well as having no extra content for them makes it the only one I can never be assed to 101% complete. And LTTP I'm a bit foggier on, but pretty sure that's one where you get the biggest use out of using your array of items to solve problems, like isn't there a dungeon boss whose weakness is an item you have to find in a whole other part of the map outside of the dungeon?
I'm a bit foggy on it as well, it was SO long ago, but yeah, I think most Zelda games have been like that. I do think they got more "linear" with their items as time went on though. Don't be afraid to call me wrong! I'm stoked to be told that!
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but unless you were at the ripe age for childhood gaming when these came out, you just wouldn't understand. This list makes it very clear
It’s like if I made a list of the most overrated Atari 2600 games and put pitfall and space invaders on there. Lots of people would roll their eyes at me I’m sure.
I can tell you were born around when these games were released. Anyone old like me who played these in the Stone Age would not call these overrated. Except maybe DKC. and MK1 can’t be overrated because everyone hated it for being censored.
The way he talked about Zelda let me know he had to have been a youngin I just went back and googled some of these releases lol

I had that thought about him plugging his Patreon.
It's my childhood too you know haha.
Dude i thought the same thing … like nahhh I’m good we obviously have nothing in common
Id give money if i had it to give. Because i appreciate the gusto. And i like idea of funding those that disagree w me. Because its like promoting individualism. 🥰
I just got to the part where he lists super mario world-- i take it all back. (Even the money i never gave.) Off w his head !!!
New title : Best Snes games ever made.(ok, I give u Mortal Combat lol)😅
DKC is not as flawed as you say. The level design, enemy placement and speed is based around the closer camera perspective and it controls very well. My main criticism is that finding secrets (not just completing the levels) involves finding lots of invisible stuff. That's not my idea of 'fun times'.
Thanks for taking the time to watch it! Do you have a preference on which Donkey Kong Country you would play if all three were in front of you?
@@Fortefyre DKC1 and DKC2 are my favourites. I would probably choose the original because I prefer horizontal levels. DKC2 is less 'left to right' and seems to be more popular. Both are great 🙂
I think DKC 2 has the BEST soundtrack as well.
I'd rather be honest than regurgitate the "common thought". I hope you enjoyed the video!
He's right about some of them.
Nice video!
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
If those are the games that you feel are overrated, I wonder what games would you recommend on the SNES.
I get the feeling he did not like 16 bit games in general.
So when I say Copy and Paste, I mean games that have a similar sound and aesthetic.
@@Fortefyrethat’s all systems. There are many unique and incredibly cool genesis games
I ranked the top 100 snes games, didn't include Super Ghouls and Ghosts, and don't think I received a single comment about it. I really think it's just a couple retro game youtubers (gamesack) who really like it propping that game up
Maybe!
Interesting opinions, I feel like you took around the top 10 snes games and put them on your list. I enjoyed the video though and thanks for making it
I wouldn't call them the top 10, I mean if Chrono Trigger was on this, or even FF VI I would have to be crucified for my sins.
Calling Zelda ALTTP overrated is crazy. One of the best Zelda Games of all Time, no doubt.
*shrug* I don't enjoy top down zeldas.
Nah,not really.I was rather disappointed with all the dungeons.Gbc and gba zelda-that's peak for me.
I’ll give you the other nine. I don’t necessarily agree all of them are overrated, but I can understand why somebody does. But Link to the Past? Nope. Unless you are going to say “people claim this is the best game ever, but it’s only the second or third best.”
Zelda 2 on the NES was the BEST Zelda EVER!!
Great take.
@@Fortefyre the guy you're replying to would probably say FFVII is overrated
Mario Kart 8/Deluxe is the 6th best-selling game of all time, the #1 best selling Switch title and the #1 racing game in U.S. history, but kart racing is a "niche genre"?
Yes. I can think of about 240 mainline kart games in a sea of roughly hundreds of thousands of video games.
@@FortefyreCartman is actually correct in this case. A niche genre doesn’t mean a genre in which few games exist in said genre, it means a genre that appeals to a small group of people. “Niche: (adj) denoting products, services, or interests that appeal to a small, specialized section of the population.”
Niche (noun): a specialized segment of the market for a particular kind of product or service.
While you are entitled to your opinion I couldn't disagree more with your pics. So many of these games are revolutionary in what they did not to mention all time greats for the time. Different ages create differing opinions you would have need to lived in the era.
I did live in the era, just not in the era where I was making any semblance of logical decisions lol
I agree with most, but earthbounds story is 100% NOT generic. It is wacky as hell. But i can see why it is overrated
Just the combat system is bad(-ish); story, music, art and presentation are really good, imo.
It's kinda generic but you aren't playing for the story lol
Who can't you escape from outside a couple bosses? And why need? It's already easy
Indeed!
DITTO!
you took issue with like, half the games he mentioned lol. that's *beefy* 🥩
Pre-rendered graphics didn't age well, and the snes is the most overrated console ever.
There are fatalities in snes mk1.
#10 DKC. You came out swinging with that pick. Hats-off, sir.
edit:
#7 Super Mario World. When I saw that, I just started hearing "SHOTS FIRED! SHOTS FIRED!"
I am relentless with my opinions lol.
I'm glad you're speaking out your mind. Although i enjoyed some games from this list, I know what it's like forcing yourself to beat a game the majority considers a must play. Life's too short to attmept to enjoy things others tell you to like even if you don't.
I agree completely!
Earthbound? Ok, you showed your hand on your troll account a little too hard now. I should’ve figured it out at Super Mario Bros.
Hahaha
Having not finished watching yet, what's #1? Super Metroid?
EDIT: Well, Super GNG is arguable, but #2 ALttP? Definitely some trolling hot takes going on.
actually... super mario world has a much more tight gameplay than super mario bros 3. it really perfected how mario controls and I guess that's what makes it so special.
I can see that.
Yeah but 3 was way longer and had more variety and power ups. World is a notable step down from 3 but certainly not overrated. World was fantastic
Wait.. the snes mortal kombat games had fatalities if i remember correctly. I used to own them but did so way back when they were released. They didnt have blood but everything else was there.. right??
And outside of that i actually think they looked and played better than their sega counterparts.
They were like...people disappearing vs fatalities lol. It doesn't say the word either.
You shoud've had Super Metroid and Castlevania IV on this list and it would be complete 😂
I can only take so much risk!
Super Metroid overrated??? Time to lay off the crack there, bud!!!!
@@Rame2404 I don't do drugs lol.
Absolutely correct. Those 2 deserve to be on his list way more than anything he has on there.
Along with FF3(6) and Chrono Trigger? 😅
When did you do Earthbound
Early in my career, long before you met me, but I didn't finish it. RoR means Mother 1 first before I ever reattack it.
You should do underrated lists I'm genuinely curious. I'm not sure if you really feel like these games are overrated or just want to roast sacred cows to get a response, but either way I'd enjoy seeing what you feel is underrated just to compare and get where you are coming from better.
I'd love to do a video on that! I'll add it to the list:)
I agree with you about Donkey Kong Country, Zombies Ate My Neighbors, Mario Kart, Mortal Kombat, and Star Fox.
They are still great games in their own way.
I never heard anyone say they weren't good at Mortal Kombat. Don't feel bad I am not either I can't even perform a finishing move.
Those fatalities were a monster to pull off!
I was, and still am, bad at MK. 😅
I love the story, mood and aesthetics of the serie, but the clunky moves' execution always prevented me from getting good at it...
I love playing FGs, except MK and SB. 😅
@@alessandrobaggi6129 Soul Calibur is my favorite.
@@jimmcclements5229 played them all until the 4th, they're very good 😉
Most of these games defined my teenage years. But you're a funny guy and for some reason I'm entertained by those who whose opinions differ from the mainstream...so it's all good! 😝
Well thank you! Haha
I never got the password system for Zombies Ate My Neighbors. Just make it saveable after each level. No one wanted to lose their weapons.
It's serves as much purpose as a screen door on a submarine... I hate that password system.
Super Mario World is a HUGE step up from Super Mario 3. The control is far more spot on, and Yoshi himself makes the game shine far more than Super Mario Bros 3 ever did.
Absolutely!
True story, I beat Secret of Mana on iOS on an iPhone 3 (go check out how tiny one of those are, they feel like a happy meal toy these days).
Oh god, I remember them lmao
Love your channel. Keep up the great work
Thanks so much!
You must’ve had a horrible childhood
Define horrible.
He is right though.
Did you look up a list of the top 20 most popular SNES games and just pick 10 of them?
No. I did not.
Nostalgia is one powerful drug
Absolutely!
I mean it's an opinion, sure it's a trash one lol.
You saved yourself from some bad takes. He basically takes the top 10 Snes games and says they are all overrated.
As a 90s Sega kid and Sega collector, I love this video.
I need to beef up my Mega Drive side of things!
Surprisingly I actually agree with your assessment of over-rated (not bad) on many titles in this video, except LOZ A Link to the Past. Really good video and I just discovered your channel and I am enjoying it.
Welcome to the community! I'm glad you enjoyed it :)
I’m not very experienced with the SNES besides RPGs, but as far as overrated SNES games, my vote is for Super Castlevania IV. It just feels like it takes away what I love about the series, and while a good game, is not the peak of the series like some people claim. Also hard agree that Mario 3 is better than Mario World
Earthbound I think is pretty fun.
It's great!
Yeah, I feel like the comedy in Earthbound is what elevates it to a cult classic, definitely not the glitchy combat.
I agree. Castlevania 4 was such a huge step down from 3 it is baffling why so many people like that game so much
@@ionface Never had issues with the combat. It's not Dragon Quest III or Final Fantasy V, but I found it pretty fun.
@@thomasffrench3639 Ah well talking about rolling HP, stat overflow, condiment glitch, and food being pretty useless. The point was that it's funny so the quirky combat is forgiven.
I don't overrate Earthbound. It is a decent rpg, in my opinion, but I agree that I can think of a good amount of other rpgs that I would rather play.
What's one of your favorites?
@@Fortefyre Chrono Trigger is my favorite but I believe some of that is because of nostalgia. I am playing Chrono Trigger+ with the MSU1 enhancement for a different experience. I am definitely enjoying it and find the differences interesting.
That said, when I take my rose tinted glasses off, it doesn't feel as magical as it did when I was a young teenager finding it for the first time and being mesmerized. Even if someone were to play it today, I think they could find things to like and find interesting but it's not mesmerizing compared to what we have now.
I could see that!
a lot of these games (especially star fox) have aged badly but were mindblowing when they first came out. The SNES version of MK1 everybody agrees blew goats
Oh absolutely I agree. It's never easy to make an overrated video.
I had 7 out of the 10 games on your list when I was a kid. I agree with SMW. Even as a kid I prefered SMB 3 and still do. As for Zelda you have to play it blind to get the most out of it
I STILL prefer SMB 3 as well.
The snes is overrated.
I don't get the hype for Secret of Mana either.
It feels extremely clunky and it's WAY too difficult in the early game. Why would you make your early game tiger boss more difficult than the endgame bosses?
Killer soundtrack though.
Great soundtrack. People get mad when I say I don't like it lol
XD
I appreciate it :)
SOMEBODY didn't complete Star Road...
Goddamn right. Lmao
This list MAYBE got 2 games right. Poster clearly grew up mostly in the 00’s
90s but yeah lol
I'm not the only one who thinks that Donkey Kong Returns and Tropical Freeze are the peak of platformers. Some say they are the best of all time, and they are not far from right. Those games took direct inspiration and the base gameplay from the SNES Donkey Kong titles. For me they are the most replayable titles from the system and I enjoy all of them very much, specially the first and third.
Oh absolutely, they are solid games, I just think they are overrated lol.
Not gonna lie man…I found this video by searching for you playing a specific game…Super Ghouls N’ Ghosts. I still want to beat it very badly, BUT I agree with your take 99%
If you do manage to beat it, good luck, it's a rough one.
Time to grab some popcorn and watch the comments go insane.
It is interesting what a lack of nostalgia can do. I never played the N64 back in the day, so I could probably make a similar list of all of your favourites.
Please do!
I appreciate that lmao. In 30 years, the only people who will remember I was busy will be my kids, so why bother not being straightforward, you know?
Oh you gotta get the crossbow, no wonder you’re having a bad time 13:21
I was 8 when the SNES came out so I gotta disagree with all this. When each game came out, it was literally the best they've ever done graphically and what not. But if I played these for the first time now I'd probably hate them too
I mean I DID play them as a kid for the most part, I just didn't own a SNES.
Those are some hot takes my dude but thanks for sharing and nice video
Thank you!
I can’t believe someone put a link to the past on this list. Absolutely baffling.
I know! That guy sucks!
You are, of course, objectively wrong about A Link to the Past, as that's one of the best games ever made. But other than that and Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts (which I honestly don't think all that many people really enjoy and rate highly), I can agree with this list. :-P
Thank you for taking the time to comment :) I hope you enjoyed the video!
Thank you!
The only game on the list I really reacted to was ZAMN but on reflection I do agree with you it’s a great game that as a solo affair is just too drawn out
SO drawn out.
To me the overall vibe if earthbound makes the lousy tedious gameplay worth it
I can see that!
I agree with Earthbound, Starfox, MK1, and Zombies Ate my Neighbours being overrated. But it hurts my heart to see Link to the Past on this list. But it's all personal opinion of course.
It's SUPER hard to make this list, calling anything overrated is tough!
How can MK1 be overrated? It was widely hated upon release for its heavy censorship.
I agree on smw, its just a watered down smb3. It even has the same bosses.
Mario kart has aged like my grandma, not well.
Earthbound is just a bad rpg with a cool gimmick.
I don't agree on donkey kong country and secret of mana both are amazing but i respect. Your opinion
I would add super metroid. The wall jump is very annoying to pull of and the game is just not as good as say a metroid fusion. Its very basic with bad level design.
There's always some games that cause a stir lol.
I'm 31.
You don’t suck at Mortal Kombat. The game code is on an extreme cheat scale so everyone sucks.
I can’t remember who did a video but someone decompiled the code and discovered that there’s a rapid acceleration of the CPU player cheat algorithm.
I believe it 100%
What it does is everytime you advance a fighter in the tree it applies a weighted chance such that even if played by a bot that always performed frame perfect attacks and defenses there was X chance your block or attack would fail.
What’s even worse is X advances on an insanely high curve such that even a bot has a better chance of gaining self awareness than it does reaching much less defeating the top boss.
I particularly like the fact that even on the easiest setting it does fuck all and makes you want to throw the cartridge into the ocean.
Wow hands down one of the worst opinionated lists I’ve ever seen but other than that I enjoyed the video bro lol
I'm glad I could entertain you! XD
@@Fortefyre definitely got a new sub out of me brother just binge watched 5 of your videos lol

I can't argue it, Wario said so!
@@Fortefyre Amen !!!!
@@richfutrell753 I adore Myst! I love it!
Yeah I agree, it lead to alot of rules being imposed on the channel.
A bit surprised that SMW2 is not on this list. As a game it's quite a bit less good compared to SMW. The levels are long-winded, sometimes it's downright boring and it's not as creative as SMW.
I almost decided to include it.
Oh wow! Thank you so much!
I agree with a lot of your list, but Mario Kart and Link to the Past? You wrong for that man.
I'm sorry lol
I am the opposite: I love top down Zeldas and don't see the appeal on the 3D games.
Why is that?
@@Fortefyre I just enjoy them. I find them more fast and dynamic. 3D games feel more clunky to me, specially the whole having to control the camera.
I know I'm late, but I'm glad you were willing to make a list that you knew would make some mad. I enjoy most of the games on the list, but the only ones i can't see being overrated in some way are super mario world and Zelda. Either way, it's all subjective like you said
I'm glad you took the time to watch it! It means a lot to me. I'm always scared when it comes time to make Overrated videos haha.
Great takes, and I definitely cannot take your memories away from you. But I fuckin' HATE Super GNG lmao
The only one I really agree with is DKC, from a gameplay perspective. The others I think are properly rated.
Thank you!
I turned this off at ZAMN being #2. You're wrong.
Zombies was #8.
Wow LTTP shocked me being on the list. Did you play it back when it first released. The game truly just touched me in a way no other game had when it released. But if you weren't there for it at the time then yeah I could certainly understand it not doing anything for you. The sense of discovery in LTTP was second to none and had my favorite rendition of hyrule to this day
I didn't, but I remember having a friend named Ty that had Mechwarrior, MK II, and LTTP. I spent the night at his house and was surprised by it.
Not sure if list is serious or just to get people to comment to help engagement and as a result the algorithm for views.
It's very much a serious list. Lol.
I strongly disagree with many of these, but I appreciate the honesty.
Well I appreciate you! Thank you for taking the time to watch this!
I know right!
If Super Metroid is on here I stg I will be sad for a few minutes
Edit: thank goodness, now I was only sad for a few seconds from some of the choices lol. Not that there’s any real reason to be, just your opinion and you gave good reasons why!
I'm glad I kept your mental distress at a manageable level :)
Super metroid is overrated though. More so than any of the games he put on the list.
@@CosmicCosmo1 BIG disagree but we’re all entitled to our hot takes lol
I admire your balls for putting Link to the Past, Super Mario World, Mario Kart, and DK Country on this list. Your complaints about those games aren't wrong, but for me, they do too many things right for me to consoder them overrated.
I feel your other overrated game picks are justified...Mortal Kombat, Zombies Ate My Neighbors, Super GnG, Star Fox, Secret of Mana, and even EarthBound.
I'm a spicy boi sometimes lol.
What would you have added to this list?
@@FortefyreI would have ACCURATELY named the video. MY (Fortefyre's) personal opinion of what SNES games are over rated. Or does honesty not get you as many clics / views?
Having personal preferences is fine. Touting them (mislabeling) as anything other than that is shady.
Bro woke up and chose violence 😂
Modern problems require modern solutions lol.
I have some pretty hot takes sometimes lmfao.
You should talk about what is your best SNES game ;)
I agree with you on starwing/starfox and mario kart
They are still good games lol, just overrated.
I'm a little different with Super Mario Kart. I use to play it for hours with my cousins. But we hated Mario Kart 64. I beat the entire game in 1 day. Gold in every cup. And we didn't like the Vs
Such a great memory!
I actually agree with everything on this list except Earthbound.
No worries about that! I'm sure my mind will change if I beat it lmfao.
We'll see! Maybe my perspective will change!
@@Fortefyre yeah it's just a matter of taste on some of the games. You may never like them 😊. I never liked Star Fox but people swear it's one of the best of all times 🥱 lol
Star Fox is garbage lmao
Will, sir, while I didn't like what you had to say, I will defend to the death your right to say it. Good day sir! Lol
I appreciate that! What are some of your favorite SNES games?
Some of these I agree with you. Some I don't, I played Earthbound last summer and it brought me back in time and I smiled all the way through. I absolutely loved it even though Im not from America. We missed it in Europe unfortunately. Personally, I had The Secret of Evermore and I loved that game, didn't mind Mana but I didn't think it was as good. I suppose if you grew up with certain games you tend to have bias towards them 🤷♂️
Oh absolutely!
I don’t agree with most of this but I’ve always hated Mario Kart. All of them lol. You’re killing me by putting Earthbound on here though. This game is one of the best ever SNES games. And ALTTP?? That’s one of the best Zelda games ever made man!
I'm much more inclined to play OoT Lol
^
How dare you talk that way of Earthbound
*shrug*
