      @@EVDude The video you recommended is excellent. I had been thinking that the slightest misstep could activate the airbag when attempting to remove the pillar cover. The video gives me a bit more confidence that removal can be accomplished without the airbag deploying. Thanks again for the very fine video you made of the dash cam installation. I've probably watched 4 or 5 others at this point and yours is among the best.

      I finished the VIOFO A129 duo installation an hour ago on a 2017 RAV 4 hybrid. I ran the rear camera wire on the top edge of the airbag cover because it did not appear that the wire would interfere with the airbag deployment and it seemed both an easier and safer process. Getting the rear camera wire through the rubber boot connecting the hatchback door was somewhat arduous, but using some Vaseline and additional help from my wife with a hemostat to widen the boot got the wire through. Both cameras are working nicely. Thanks again.

      Hi Scotty, thanks for watching and for the feedback. The tutorial shouldn't be any different for other RAV4 besides the digital rearview camera that may or may not be standard for other RAV4 models. I had to mount the back camera beside the rearview camera and make sure it didn't hinder the view of the other. Besides that, the tint doesn't affect the camera at all, I did not see any difference in video quality from the front camera.

    Thanks for the video! It gave me the confidence to install my own system. I had the most difficulty with getting through the rubber conduit at 18:10 so I wanted to share with others my method. On my car it was taped tightly at the entrances around the cables, so I had to carefully remove the electrical tape to access the conduit. I then popped the rubber gaskets out so it was all free hanging. I was afraid to use Vaseline since other commenters said it would erode the other cables’ insulation. So without lubricant, I easily pushed and twisted a no. 2 pencil (eraser first) through the conduit carefully to avoid damage. Next, I drilled a hole through the end of the pencil and threaded in some picture-hanging wire. I pulled the pencil back the way it came from, and was ready to use the picture wire as a pull string. I wrapped the wire around the camera cable evenly to spread out pressure and avoid damage to the cable head. Then I used electrical tape to wrap the two wires together, tapering them on the leading side so they could get through the pipe more easily. I was very careful not to pull too hard and damage the existing wires in the pipe. It went best when I alternated pulling with kneading the rubber at the sticking points.

    You're French is much better than mine. All my family is from Quebec province. Anyways I got a 2021 Rav 4 Hybrid. I moved from L.A. to a part of the US where it snows. Do you do an undercoating to your car to winterize it? I'm told to do so. Also my question is I'm struggling to keep my car always able to turn on and I'm under 10k miles and even the dealership can't figure out why I'm struggling to get my car to always turn on. Today I just had to jump my car and it worked. They told me that 20 Celuis degrees shouldn't affect my batteries either. Need advice from someone who lives in cold climate to let me know what's going on.

    Great video - but I have a question: With the VIOFO HK3 hardwire kit set to cutoff at 12.4V (I believe that's the setting you indicated you are using in the video) do you have any idea approximately how many hours the camera runs in parking mode before the Hk3 shuts off? I've seen conflicting reports in other forums that the runtime may only be a few hours.

    • @EVDude
      @EVDude  3 роки тому +1

      I haven't tested it with the vehicle parked for days but I know it does at least 8 hours as that's the time it's parked when at work. You'll get conflicting reports because everyone's batteries are not at the same level to begin with. So if you're battery is healthy to begin with (over 12.6-12.8 V) you'll be good for hours or even days.

    • @terraskater
      @terraskater 3 роки тому +2

      @@EVDude The VIOFO dual draws about 1A at 5V from the included 12V USB adapter in dashcam mode, so that’s approximately 1A x 5V = 5 watts. Assuming some efficiency loss that would be about 0.5A on the input side of that same adapter. Assuming the HK3 operates with a similar efficiency and that parking mode draws the same (or perhaps less?) power, that’s a steady 0.5A drain on a 55Ah battery (according to page 542 of the owner’s manual). So that works out to a theoretical 110 hours of parking mode runtime - to completely drain the battery. Unfortunately that doesn’t do much to answer the question - How much runtime can we expect before the voltage drops to 12.4V? So I guess I’ll just have to test it! :-)

    Do you know if hardwiring something like this to the car voids the warranty of the RAV4 Prime? I was going to have it installed but I'm worried that if something happens later on (even it doesn't have anything to do with the dash camera) that the dealer is going to say that the warranty is void because of it. Or they will say that the installation messed something up, and since it was installed by a 3rd party, they will not cover anything further under the warranty. I called the dealership to see if they would install it, and they said they don't do that.

    • @EVDude

      There's always a risk but they need to prove that your installation caused issues. You can always contact Toyota Canada / USA if the dealer does not want to honour the warranty.
