Best part of the backstage scene in Spinal Tap you referenced is when Nigel says "I'll rise above it, I'm a professional." I can't tell you the number of times I quote that when facing some catastrophe. The number of lines in that movie I have spent decades quoting in almost every context is truly remarkable. Oh and that roti looked damn tasty.
Thanks for the lovely comment! When we started this channel, the concept was "If I just landed in this city, where could I get info on great places to eat without the hype and fake reviews on Yelp?" We're thrilled that you are taking some of our suggestions heart! ♥️
Okay, now you're going to make us blush... 🙄. We're glad that you're enjoying our humble efforts! We're not planning to stop anytime soon! Stay tuned. We're off to Europe and Africa in January!
Thanks for the video! Have you tried Laksa King on Hastings Street? They specialize in Burmese food and I highly recommend their laksa and Mango salad - my favourites! Amay House is also pretty good authentic Burmese food too.
We loved Laksa king when it first opened. The Burmese dishes were great, especially the fermented tea leaf salad, which was a revelation! We think it has changed hands at least once, possibly twice since then, and to be honest, subsequent visits never quite lived up to the work of the original chef. Still tasty, but not “oh wow!”. It’s been a couple years since we were there last, so maybe we’re overdue for a visit.
Love your videos, they're very informative. Have you been to Singapore Hawker? There are locations in Burnaby and Coquitlam. Would love to have your take.
Pro tip ..... bring your own plastic ramen spoon, the kind with a hook at the end of the handle. I keep mine in a Ziploc if I know I'm going to have soup noodles in a food court.
Wonder if it is the same as the one in Marpole called Ipoh Malay Cuisine. It is more homestyle and I think it is family owned. Been there for a long time and I don’t remember how the food was, sorry. The name just reminded me of it. Thanks for the video.
Could be, but we have to visit in order to ascertain that. We’re planning to go there in the next few months. It’s great to see how many Malaysian places there are in Vancouver now compared to 20 years ago! Thanks so much for your comment.
Just the old location on Lonsdale and it was pretty good! Tried the one in Richmond, and maybe they were having an off day, because it was perhaps the single worst laksa ever. Haven’t been back since!
had lahksa before at banana leac but it was just ok have to have a really good one to apreciate it more msybe i will make it to norgh van you recomended me
We agree with you about the Banana Leaf. Never had a truly great laksa there, and the recipe varied from location to location. The best one ever for us was at the now defunct Orchid Delight in a mini mall on Willingdon. It's now a Taiwan beef noodle place (that looks pretty good!). Tropika used to do a good laksa, but haven't been for several years. Tamarind Hill on Lonsdale is the current gold standard. Make sure that you ask Louis for some special sambal on the side! Thanks for commenting.
Thanks for asking! Laurel was (and still is!) and actor first and foremost. She ran a theatre company in London (UK) and still works doing film, TV, and commercials. She's also a retired entrepreneur who created an sold a natural bath and body products business a few years back. Rob is a primarily an active musician and a retired software engineer, specializing in digital audio. Rob is the keyboard player and technical director for the Canadian band Strange Advance (lots on UA-cam!). Somehow, we're both busier than we ever were when we were "working"! 😉
Ok cool, yes love music to I got a stereo it's about $130k still need new speakers to complete it it's like I got a laborgini but I only can afford canadian tire entry level tires

@@coltranecave5503 nothing more sobering than watching Spinal Tap on a tour bus and realizing that this is your life! 😮
Thank you for being authentic foodies sharing your adventures and your love of food. I’m building my list of eateries to go now. ❤

Cutest couple :) Food look so delicious. I very much enjoy watching your Asian Food Court adventures. Keep up the great work!

Butterfly pee lol. Great looking food! Now I have to go there again! Keep up the good work!
@@DanPocketRocket The rice is made with butterfly PEA flowers - that’s what makes it blue no butterflies urinating in the rice! 🤣

Thanks for the comment! Haven’t been to Singapore Hawker yet, and you’re not the first to mention it. We’re adding it to our growing list!

@@SK-ps5pn Brilliant! We already carry around our own recycled takeout containers, but we’re gonna add spoons to the kit!

Ipoh, the city of the best fat bean sprouts, we have a very legit Ipoh restaurant here, it's on my bucket list cities for next year
We love anything Malaysian. We don't think it's possible to get a bad meal there! Thanks from chiming in. 🙏
Have you guys ever tried John 316 Malaysian Delight

You might want to check their express stall at the Aberdeen food court in Richmond.

Thanks for the tip! We’re running out of room on our list! 😉
go to Shiok.
We will definitely try it again’. Thanks!
The city is called "eeee-poh".........and not I-poh......so there you go
Thanks! We never visited the city, and had never heard a native speaker pronounce it! We appreciate your minor course correction. 🙏
Their hainan chicken could be better if it’s cooked from free range chicken.
Always! This was good chicken, but we much prefer the Hainan chicken at MamaLee.
