He only guesses by your facial expressions and other defining features when you fight him, as you are just rewinding back time to before you fought him, and he can really only guess how many times due to your character getting increasingly agitated due to not defeated the supposedly "easiest enemy". He does not remember, and most of the time, he guesses.
