- Glacier: The Hiker's National Park - This video took weeks to Shoot and 100s of hours to write and edit. It's the most comprehensive GNP day hiking and lodging guide available. Glacier is my favorite National Park I've been there 18 times and counting. The tour starts with a detailed drive across the Sun Road with many beautiful images. Then, I take you on the most popular hikes in the park including one where its possible to step on one of the shrinking glaciers. Then, I'll show you the Park's Lodges, Inns and campgrounds. before we drive up and visit one of the lakes in the remote NW corner of the park.
0:00 Park Introduction
02:42 Driving the Going to the Sun Road
13:36 Hike to Bullhead Lake- Start with an easy flat Hike
23:35 Overview of each of the Park's Lodges
36:13 The Grinnell Glacier Trail- My Favorite!! MUST DO HIKE
47:11 Hike to Iceberg Lake
53:05 The Trail of the Cedars- Wheel Chair capable on the west side
55:31 The Highline and Swift Current Trails from Logan Pass to Many Glacier 15.2 miles

1:12:03 Hike to Ptarmigan Tunnel in WILD WEATHER
1:20:31 The Melting Glaciers- FYI- The "experts" were wrong the glaciers did not disappear by 2020! IN FACT ONE MORE ICE FIELD HAS GROWN INTO A GLACIER. The park now has 26. I am working on an update to this video which will be released once the Covid-19 plans are released.
1:27:27 North Fork and Polebridge
A fantastic job putting this together! Thank you for your time and selfless effort! Your love for the park is evident and shared. Thanks again
Thanks for recognizing the effort- It's a great place
Fantastic documentary. I'm stage 4 cancer but doing well thanks to break through antibiotic & special diet treatment. Building a camper van. Watching your videos is helping me plan my bucket list!
I hope everything works out. Fill that bucket.
You did a fantastic job showing everyone all the great views that Glacier Park has to offer. Well done!
thanks for recognizing the work!
This is spectacular! This is probably the best video I've seen of Glacier Nat'l Park. Just the scenery, facts and what we're interested in. No whining, no endless shots of yourself or annoying music. Thank you!
Thanks, I put a lot of work into it!
Back in 1996, I cycled from Missoula to Edmonton. Seeing these videos brings me back immediately to those mountains. The rockies are majestic and a video is hardly capable to capture the shear beauty and size. Staying at campgrounds in small little tents brought me even closer to nature. Great friendships were build with other cyclist. Cycling these mountains you inhale the scenery in a nice flow that I will never forget. Thanks for making and publishing this video. It brings back joy and smiles!
Thanks! It’s always great to hear from those who “get” how special that part of the world is.
I have lived here since 2003... this guy is correct...best park ever!
I had a wonderful adventure in Glacier, nearly 30 years ago.
This is one of the most informative educational videos about any park I have ever seen. Steve Salis (the videographer) must have been a teacher before. His video is like a very well composed course on the history and landscape of Glacier Park. He is really incredible. I can't think of any park video done so well, and I live and breath these types of videos.
Thanks very much! Yours is one of my favorite comments. No not a teacher- I have done quite a bit of instructional design for clients. I have a film degree and an MBA. Designing and project mgt of educational software, curriculum and other courseware for large corporate clients enabled me to afforded to write and produce and narrate every this passion project. All require just good story/info
telling.
Terrific video! Thanks for all the great information. I know it will be helpful when we visit.
Glad it was helpful!
Although I never drove this road, my first trip by this park were in 1978 on my way to Alaska. My last trip were in 1984. I hope before I pass I can do it again, only this time, I'm going to drive up and over.
In 2012 we’d made the trip to the West. We’d visited Yellowstone & Tetons NPs. It was GREAT, however it was the idea to go to Glacier for one day. Due limited time we didn’t and by seeing your video I’m regretting right now, however one day is not enough. So right now I have to plan separate trip to Glacier & Waterton to explore. Thx a lot for this amazing and inspiring video.
THanks and your welcome. FYI it took 25 days or so to shoot this so plan on several days- also, I'm editing a 50 hikes in glacier now- it will be out in a few weeks.
I didn't know the existence of this Park...
I had been to the Yosemite National Park, in the Fall of 1994, and I enjoyed a lot.
I hitchhiked up this road in 1976. it was a better world then.
I gotta believe that..
oh yea!!
Man you are so right about that . I keep saying I wish we could turn back the clock to the 70s when I was a teenager and the world was not so crazy and people still enjoyed having conversations and looking you in the eye ... as well as talking on the phone .
They were not obsessed with social media . Back then people did not seem so narcissistic .
I'm sick of how everything has become so political . I'm sick of how much freedom of speech we have lost .
Like that Jethro Tull song : let's go living in the past .
I'm putting time stamps for easy reference.

55:33 Highline Trail

Emil Joseph thank you
Thanks bro the best!
@@jeepromejeeprome5044 That creator of this video already had the timestamps, in the comments. Check them out, he did an awesome job!
Your videos really helped improve my first trip to Glacier. Great quality.
Went back to glacier a few months ago and thanks to the help from your videos I really enjoyed myself
thanks
Worked there in 1952 at Oldman Lake with Blister Rust Crew. Life changing experience. Still think of if every day.
My father is from Columbia Falls and also worked the trail to Oldman lake. He has told me the story 100 times.
I had a good friend that cooked for a lot of those work crews. She had a cabin in Martin City and cooked in Coral I think. So many good memories❤❤❤🇺🇸
Coram
Great video my friend. I am blessed to live just 10 minutes from the west entrance of the park and even after all these years of seeing it I never get tired of it. I drive the "going to the sun road" every year, and you reminded me of how I need to start hiking again. Great work and thank you.
Thanks! You’re quite lucky. If I could figure out how to afford to live there i’d do it in a second!
Best Glacier park video out there!
THanks! The 25 days of shooting paid off!

Thanks! I put a lot of work into them.

The way Your presentation is: Brilliant to the point of beauty as in The Grand Circle tour video.
Wow, thank you!
I agree!
Wow! What a stunning place! My younger brother is studying in the 🇺🇸 & i’m hoping to visit him next year for his graduation, would definitely love to visit this place.
Wow this stunning and the wildlife is awesome.
Wow I read the description box and I can’t believe the amount of time and effort put into this video 👏wow I definitely want to get out here and explore !
Thanks!! Yes it was a lot of work and Im working on an update that will be released shortly after they release the post covid-19 visitation rules.
Thank you .I was there years ago ,brings back forgotten memories.Well done.
thanks
Excellent and very well done. Good about the receding glaciers near the end. Thanks for sharing.
Absolutely phenomenal documentary, huge thanks for all your amazing work 🙏!
thanks! it was a lot of work
Do this on horseback. Will bring out that inner cowboy in anybody and everybody. Late brother in law was a Montana man,he talked me into it.
This video is awesome! Can't wait to go back and hike more trails! Thanks for posting.
This is very inspiring ...Haven’t been to Glacier National Park.Thank you for sharing
Thanks! It’s a Great place!
This is exceptionally well done. My goodness, Glacier photographs more beautifully than Yellowstone.
Yes its a great place. Overcrowded like Yellowstone but great.
Thank you so much. What a fantastic, comprehensive, beautiful, and helpful video! I really appreciate you making and sharing this. Can't wait to be there next month!
Beautiful movie.Great job! Thanks for the info!
A real good showing of park
Heading there this summer for the first time, taking my son, can't wait!
if you'll be hiking check out my 8 part 50 Best hikes in Glacier series. I just posted the last segment in the series this morning
Thank you Steve Salis! I'm taking my family of 7 adults and two infants to Glacier. I have watched all of your Glacier videos and cannot tell you how much information you have provided that is going to help us get the most out of our visit. We will be hiking every day based your suggestions for the different trails. We have lodging reservations on each side of the park and a loose itinerary for each day except one that is dedicated to e-biking the GTTSR. Hopefully it is closed to motorized vehicles during our trip. Thanks for your dedication to providing such top notch videos. We look forward to using your other National Park videos in years ahead. - David
Thank you David. The GTTSR isn't likely to be closed to cars and open to bikes once the road is fully open due to weather. When its not fully open bikes are often allowed beyond the car gate but to the point the plow crews are working. FYI- I put out a new post covid version of the long video last night. It has info on the new Vehicle Res Ticket witch is also discussed in my "What you need to know for 2023-24video that was released a few weeks ago. the Veh res ticket is a big deal. You need one for each area of the park and they are hard to get unless you're staying in that region. The 2hr vid I put out last night had old info at about the 100 min point. I'm exporting a corrected video as I type it will be up tomorrow if things go to plan. The park website explains the Veh Res ticket too. Feel free to super like if compelled.
such a great video. thank you for documenting this amazing park
Beautiful Park......nice place
Great job describing this most beautiful place. I was here in Sept. Of 21, my experience mirrors your description. He is a fool who says there is no God!
thanks
Thank you for sharing this fantastic video
You’re welcome. I’m heading there next can’t wait!
Beautiful...Thanks for sharing new friend here
Love all things hiking! Thanks for all the great info! Plan on backpacking Glacier sometime soon! Keep making these great vids!
This is one of my favorite parks and you do a wonderful job of capturing it. Thanks so much.
Thanks! BTW- I'm editing the 2020 version now. It'll cover the over crowding issue and cover more trails with many more maps. should be ready by February.
@@TheWestisBig Watching your doc, I think we seem of similar mindset. My wife and I spent two weeks this year, leaving labor day weekend from Boston (we live near Portland, ME) and taking the train all the way to West Glacier. Spent 9 or 10 days at the Belton Chalet and did everything possible to visit the less popular areas of the park. If it was rainy, we'd visit the more popular areas, as the crowds were knocked down and the park just as beautiful. I think Glacier is about the most spectacular mountain park imaginable. I prefer it to the Alps in Germany, Italy, and Switzerland. We also love Montana and the people.
Such a beautiful place
Whoa,,, what fabulous sceneries,,, thanks so much for sharing,,,
Safe, happy & blessed travel on your journey,,,,
Jammer Kirk here. Your videos of the park are by far the best! I look forward to meeting you this summer!
Hopefully i’ll make it up there. The $225 filming permit required for UA-camrs makes going that much more expensive. Some friends of mine are going in June
@@TheWestisBig maybe me and my fellow Jammers can pay at least half of that for you...
This is a great video. Thank you for your efforts. Well narrated and beautiful cinematography. Makes me want to visit for sure.
thanks!
This is the most informative well produced video on youtube about this wonderful place thank you 😊👍
Thanks! It took about 25 days to shoot and 100s of hours to write and edit.
I love these videos. Many thanks.
You’re Welcome!
Excellent video/information. Thank you for all your time. You are a great story teller.
I absolutely loved this documentary for my class!
Great Thanks!! What Class?
My lodging is booked for September! I'm looking forward to some of these hikes.
Thank you for the wonderful documentary and tour. We want to take our family this coming year and it’s such an amazing help and guide for planning. Many blessings and joy to you and yours!
Thanks for the kind words. FYI- I'm editing 2020 version soon that will include info on crowds and a few more hikes. There will also be a 60 minutes plus, The best 50 Hikes in Glacier Video soon.
I wish I had seen this before our trip there! We would have seen and known so much more! You did bring back beautiful memories and you did an excellent job! To relax I watch this video with beautiful music n turn ur voice off !!! It's perfection, truly, thank you so much.
Uh, Thanks I guess.
About to start our hikes in the morning. This did a fantastic job of helping my family make a to-do-list... Thanks!
you’re welcome
An excellent job at describing the scenery and excellent camera work as well. Enjoyed it thoroughly!
Thank you very much!
The site is amazing. One of the places I have wanted to go for at least the last 20 years!
Yeah
I'll be working at Glacier National Park this summer, your video has made me so excited to plan hike and drives ! Thank you for this documentary!
You r so lucky!! I wish i would have done that. Of course the virus may change things. U should check out my 50 Best hikes in Glacier doc as well. It mentions some unofficial trails the know about. like Grinnell Point at other peaks!
I’m going tomorrow thanks man appreciate it
Beautiful lake. Well done!
Thank You for your videos. I've only had the opportunity to go once, but like you said it can't be done all at one trip. I'm glad there is so many things to do, to see. Can't wait to go back or to one of the other parks.
You are so welcome!
Great video! Thanks for making it.
stunning views. would love too go there.
On my bucket list, hope I can plan for this experience this year.
I hope you make it. The place is amazing.
cant wait to come to the US to visit the national parks
Heading there in July and have cabin on the west side of the park for 6 days. Thanks for making the video, you did a great job and it’s much appreciated!
Thanks that’s why I made it.
Thank you, for such an amazing, informative, and beautifully photographed, video! It was a true pleasure!

Northeast New England States. Love to visit sometime in the future .
thanks. and u should visit Glacier
Thanks for putting this together, learned a few things, we are flying in tomorrow, can't wait!
Thanks! It's a great place!
A great informational video thank you!
you’re welcome
Wow, amazing tour. Thank you so much. Hoping to try some of the hikes you described, this summer.
Thanks! It took about 25 days to shoot and 100's of hours to write and edit. I like hearing that it payed off. Hey- if you do the Falls Hike off the Sun Road and take some good pics I'd like to see them. I've heard it looks a bit different-- I need some current pics to include in an update. My trip this year is again planned for late fall- fires and things caused trip cancellation last couple of years and who knows it may again this year.
So lovely! :-) Amazing place! I know this park well, hiked many of the trails you mentioned.:-)
Thanks for this primer. Going for 4 weeks next month and it is very helpful
thanks
By the way, I think you have produced one the very best videos of Glacier National Park that I've ever seen. Nice job!!
Thanks! I'm working on the 2020 update next week- there will also be a 50 great hike in Glacier NP coming out soon too.
@@TheWestisBig Sounds great. Looking forward to your next video!!
What a fantastic video! I can't imagine the hours you poured into it's production. Certainly glad you did. Sad to see the few repetitive strain injured thumbs down. No doubt from, excessive chip munching, couch potatoes.
THanks! I like to think they are miss clicks
My goodness. You’re so good
thanks
Many thanks! An outstanding video and travelogue. I visited in July 2019 and Logan pass parking lot filled daily by 7:30 a.m.
P
Epic
Such a great video. Thank you so very much. I had to admit I was mostly ignorant Of glacier National Park before we started doing our research this year.
Thanks for watching. FYI- after I visited last Oct. I updated this video with lots of new footage- also please note the park is overcrowded now. Long waits and traffic detract from the experience. Also, people are visiting the park for the wrong reason. Commenters have told me kids were loudly paddle boarding (without going through the required Zebra Mussel check) in Fishercap Lake and scaring away the moose. Commenters have also said kids were partying in the campgrounds and cabin areas in the wee hours- making hikes more difficult with little sleep.
What a beautiful informative video, thank you
Thanks, it’s nice to hear the work is appreciated
great vid, my DROOGIE!
Wow I love this
I like that you took the video to Waterton too. My family used to love going to Cameron lake. I heard the Park Cafe isn't nearly what it used to be which makes me SO SAD. They used to have a menu just for pie.
Hmm pie
Great thanks so much
Thank you for the very informative vid. Now in AZ and recently able to start RV life. Went to East of GNP to work at Piegan POE, drove road to Shelby to see some of the views. Now in my Bucket List. Places like this, let me that know God is the best architect... Thanks!
You’re Welcome
Great info 🥰
Thank you, I enjoyed this video immensely. The scenery in the western US is spectacular, I have seen the 14k peaks mountains in western Colorado, spent 2 weeks in Alaska, traveled through Oregon and Washington and plan on visiting Montana in 2020. Ultimately, I plan to relocate to the western US next year.
I hope to relocate out there too- Its quite nice!
Thank you for sharing.
My pleasure!
This is amazing! Thanks for the guide!!
Glad it was helpful!
I too have been to Glacier many times. This is the best video, by far, to capture what it is like in the park. Many times I tr.ied to hike to Ice Berg lake only to find the trail closed because of bear activity. It is almost impossible to get a campsite in Many Glacier campground which seems to be the worlds' favorite. For the record, I get cell service in St. Mary campground with Verizon. Thanks for posting
Thanks, Ive been making documentaries for other people for 30 years. Its nice to hear some appreciate well made youtube content. Thanks for the cel phone info! My At&t service doesn't work on the east side except for one overlook on the road to Two Med.
thank you so much for this. I am going there in about a week.
you're welcome
Great video, can't wait to go there in August!
thanks! Lucky you. I'm still trying to get reservations in Many Glacier.
Very informative. going there next week. thank you for your time.
your welcome-- BTW- if you take any good pics of the burn area around St, Mary Falls I'd like to use them in an update to this video. I was supposed to go there in a few weeks but paying work is getting in the way. thanks
What an amazing video! the video was complete from the travel going to this place then to the wonderful sights . I love watching till end the wonderful scenery and also learn how you did this wonderful video taking! so nice!
Thanks for watching and writing. Fyi- im uploading the 2021 update now. it has 30 minutes of new footage and lots of other changes.
