I'd really like to be able to sort my automations into folders
That's a pretty highly requested feature, maybe our wishes will come true this year 😅
Tags would work better IMO.
True, some kind of organization option would be great. Tags or Folders..just anything.
Same here. I’ve resorted to a naming convention so I can scroll through them easier. A tag or category field would be nice to help sort them in the UI.
This! Please!
Making it more user-friendly is a way to go. Before every update developers should ask themselves "did we simplify it in any way". That would expand the community and number of users
Absolutely, making it more user friendly should always be a priority
First thing on the list.... Split into development and stable channels, and only push updates to stable every 6 or 12 months.
I'm hesitant to set up anything that really relies on HA because I'm worried about it being a pain in the arse to update. And the place I was most interested in it, I'm running the Docker version on a Synology NAS, and don't really want a standalone HA OS based box when I've already got the NAS sitting there.
@@EverythingSmartHome Not at the expense of forcing all your user base to relearn how to do common tasks
@@Pabz2030actually, yes. Change, even positive change, is always difficult. But it is necessary
@@Pabz2030 If that were the case, Blender would never be as popular as it is today
I do everything in the UI like a caveman so very happy for automation UI upgrades
I do too! 😅
I hope this year they manage to make customizable drag and drop dashboards
you means like node-red :) the integration for hassio existed for years
I really want them to work on making dashboard layouts easier to manage. It should not be as complex as it is to get cards and tiles where you want them or to resize them.
i really like these short conclusion videos of the new update, the official videos just take way too long. so thanks and keep up the good work!
Glad you enjoy the videos, thanks!
I can appreciate the easier Actions access and search, but between the renaming of the sections, adding descriptions, and splitting it into multiple buttons, it's too much clutter
3:45 "not too big of a dil do.. sure will get used to it soon" 😂😂😂 Good one Lewis 😂
FINALLY they fixed the thermostat card. Nice seeing actual/current temp front and center in LARGE TYPE instead of the Nest-inspired design showing target/set temp.
Options are always good!
Mate you've helped me so much over my Home Assistant Nightmares lol. Thank you so much for sharing!
Watching you from the beginning of my way with HA ( moved from catastrophic domoticz ). Keep up the good work, your reviews are the best ! 😊
HA automations are getting closer to Node Red day by day. Few more years and they will be really compeeting ;-)
Best way to absorb patch notes, ty 👍👍👍👍
🙏🏻
Nice! Thanks Lewis 😊

Wohooo! Automation Improvements
🎉
I'[m surprised you did not mention the Holiday integration. That's such a cool addition ! :)
Yes! This saves so much automations
It is indeed great!
Great. Thank you. Can you let me know how to integrate CYCN to HA.
Thank you.
Thanks Ron!
If some kind of repeatable option was added to the task system, I could imagine moving household chores from todoist to home assistant. We live in an exciting time :)
That's a good idea, maybe in the next release! Although I suppose that might be more suitable for a calender?
@@EverythingSmartHome well doing it in a Todo list would allow things like "a week after it was checked off last" instead of "every week", if you don't do it immediately when it pops up
Oh man! I can see how the automations UI may be better for new folks but I also believe it deviates too far from the previous and over complicates the process of creating complex automations. A suggestion would be to have the new automation builder aimed towards new users be viewable only when the advanced user option is not selected.
That could be a nice option to have! I think there is a nice middle ground somewhere
Thanks
Thanks for watching!
easy to create responsive dashboards #1 wish from me
any news on the everything lite sensor?
Thank you for your summary and perspective on these changes, I really appreciate it since I’m just learning how to set up automations and stuff right as they’re changing 😂😂 newbie over here
i’m very eager to learn, and I’ve taken a number of engineering courses, so I don’t think I’ll have tooooooo much trouble hopefully
Appreciate that, enjoy the journey!
I simply cannot understand any use for the todo list i find it very not smarthome like to be honest taking in consideration on how manual it actually is. Grouping automations or being able to actually design dashboards more easily would be a welcomed edition because it is tough as it is. Duplicating helpers or copying a helper would also be quite nice honestly.
Agree, whats the point of a Todo list? I've got other apps that have that nailed .
Maybe I'm missing something, perhaps worth a video on why they're great in HA??
I am mystified on why a smart home automation app would have a built in to do list. Is a word processor next?
Is the idea that your home could detect when something needs doing and/or when it has been done? E.g. washbasket has reached a specific weight, so the washing needs doing. Weight drops back down, so it marks it as done. Feels a bit like the home is automating the human rather than the other way around!
That new Holiday integration should be nice, no more having to make custom YAML sensors that check the date.
For sure that's a good one!
Hi !
I made the fan mode tile/climate feature, enjoy !
Emmmm, but you should be able to use icon mode instead of dropdown, will check that 🤔
Thermostat groups. How hard can it be Nabu?
hey everyone I am wondering if their is a good forum to discuss smart home ideas and share how you control and code things and just discuss other ideas for smart homes
Hi, can You please tell us how to make tts google-translate work again :). Can't fix it to hear my google home mini. Thank You in advance.
Als erstes hat mir das upgrade grad mal die raspimatic zerschossen
Using the automations UI now is really messy, things are existing in multiple options.
I really hope they fixed the annoying zha restart loop issue
easier updating of blueprints, please!
That's quite the to-do list 😂
It's getting out of hand now 🤣
It would be handy to have a link to the release notes in your video descriptions. Thanks for the overview!
It's always been there? Glad you enjoyed it!
@@EverythingSmartHome Don't know how I missed it! Sorry
the last time I touch my hassio settings was 2 years ago, guess that now the good time to tweak something :)
That’s good idea not to break something and wait for a fix or do restore. I am running a virtualized HA at present where I do the updates and new features checks with few sensors and modules. My production instance HA is running on a dedicated Lenovo Tiny. Mostly I run n-3 or n-2 version in my prod HA.
@@tamildesan837same, I'm running HA as a container inside synology dsm, every containers are backup daily from nvme pool to shr pool. Since it's a container I can clone it and play with a duplicated one before make an actual upgrade. The hard part is learning almost everything again after 2 years =))
I have had two things break after update. All my Aqara devices are unavailable via Matter integration and Wyze integration ask to be reconfigured but it won’t accept Keyid or API not sure which or both. Anyone else?
I got hit by the Shelly breaking change... oh sorry.. the Backward-incompatible changes :) You need to upgrade the firmware on your Shellys apparently. All it said in the UI was "check the logs". Why couldn't there be a link to the logs right there? It did put up a message telling me to check the logs so why not link to the relevant one directly? Ah well, I finally found it and then remembered I just upgraded to 2024.1... need to read the Backward-incompatible changes list... duh.. :)
Update seems to have broken the Switchbot Bluetooth integration. Reverted to the previous version and all is back working.
Dont have that problem. In the old version it didnt work for me. Now its fixed 😂
So conditions currently use if all is true, is this still the case? Or would you need to put an and building block to make it like it was?
Still the case. The AND building block is used to build more complex stuff. But by default, it’s an AND, as always ;)
@@jlpouffier thanks! I’m aware that’s how it used to be so thank you for confirming 👍🏻
Thanks JLo!
Does anyone actually use the to-do list? I don't understand the point of this and it seems so far from where effort should be spent working on this awesome product.
Did they already publish what kind of year of the xxx it is then?
It doesn't seem like they are doing a focused year this year unfortunately!
May be the voice feature is yet to mature. So this year it may be expected to be 75% at least this if not 100%.
"Year of the general improvements" then?
Hope they bring out a better default dashboard.
Attn. Sonoff Is not supported in this version …. If you use Sonoff, stay on 2023.12.4
I'm still on 2023.8.4, I hate change lol
For the love of god make the dashboards wysiwyg. I had a nice dashboard and wanted to add another button and there’s no way to get it where I want it. Every time I try to move it it buggers all the rest of the buttons and gauges or moves thing where I don’t want them. Seriously there’s been this sort of thing on web pages for decades, just sort it.
This is a feature of the adaptive interface for different screen sizes. You can use a rigid grid with a combination of vertical and horizontal stacks
HA is killing me. It’s a new install and it just can’t connect to anything in internet/cloud. It does ping using terminal but integrations fail as if it couldn’t use DNS… I tried changing DNS, reinstalling… no deal. 😢
I'd love to see integration of lists/reminders with iOS's built-in apps. I'm not going to use HA to set up those lists, but would love automations triggered off what I add to iOS Reminders app and have it all reflected inside HA.
i messed up my network... tried following some youtube tutorial adding adguard own server to my router because my router is a pile of sht (sky) It has no option for DNS because sky feels they have the best DNS protection...
So how do i enable adguard to my sky router? the DHCP is difficult to understand and needs keys or something or i use adguards own ip address but where do i apply this in the LAN settings?
Most OSes will allow you to use DHCP for most of the network settings, then static DNS servers for DNS. You'll need to do that on every machine on your network though, which could be tedious.
An alternative is to disable DHCP on the router (hold on, not yet) and use your own DHCP server running on some other hardware (eg many NAS systems have DHCP servers built in or just set up a Linux machine to do it). Don't turn the router DHCP off until you're sure your new one is working properly - switch the router power off or unplug it from the LAN to test the new one works, and then only disable the router one when you're sure you'll still have a working network.
great advice! ty tin

Im still stuck on Python3.9!!!
Hurry up Bullseye, get 3.11.
Oh yeah, and sqlite3.27. Old AF.. Ugh.
Soon, but will probably always be ~1 year behind the release schedule 😂
As much as I love Debian proper packages I just docker-compose the thing.
Agreed that Automation UI change does not help: it makes it harder to learn and more cluttered. A real backward step. Everything else looks great; hopefully they will revert that change in a few releases.
Thanks for making the vid Lewis!
Why is it a step back in your opinion? I really think this helps building complex IFTT kinda scenario's.
Because an element in a condition now must be located from one of two places. The list was not massively long to start with and now you must remember where the element in the condition lives in order to find it again. Lewis discussed some of this in the video.
One obvious solution would have been a divider in the drop down to force the “complex” structural elements into the bottom of the drop down, out of the way except for “advanced” users. Alternatively an advanced mode could have been introduced into this (and other) pages to hide these types of controls if they are deemed intimidating. There are loads of better solutions.
@@lawrencemanning You've got a point when it comes to the long list of elements, that could have been more clear with a devider or what so ever. Besides that I'm really glad with the 'When', 'And If', 'Then Do' naming and the building blocks. That makes it all a lot easier in my opinion.
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!
is it just me but my life360 is not working anymore for a while now?
They talked about it on the livestream, Life360 keep breaking API access, Home Assistant reached out, life360 ignored them, users put in support tickets and life360 said they wouldn't be allowing projects like Home Assistant to use their API any longer. Looks like it will unfortunately need to be removed in the next release

I don't like the new automation page either 😢
really don't like th building blocks concept, would be great if there was a way to toggle it off and use the old menu...
Ill stick to nodered as it seems the devs improve things, they want, now the users. Such a shame. Story of Icarus.
I like HA automations (I have some fairly complicated ones), but I think I’m going to give node red a look. Thanks for reminding me. 😊
Why did they rename "breaking changes" to "backward incompatible changes?" Gah... Change for the sake of change. I looked right past it.
What a useless improvement, When, And if, Then do? Seriously? If you don't understand Trigger, Condition & Action you will probably be lost anyway 😁
Apart from that quite interesting stuff 🙂
I just hope it’s not reflected in the yaml.
Hopefully it won't take too long to get used to, the addition of search is great at least!
You know what... You're right. That almost sounds like the sort of improvement some over-politically-correct weirdo came up with because "trigger" is scary and "condition" is offensive or some other such garbage.
Terrible and pointless changes to the automation UI IMHO.
Cardinal rule of UI: Dont change your users work flow unless you have to!
