4:20 Thank you for the video. I purchased a 2023 Platinum Lightning after visiting the dealer to buy the hybrid eco boost. Someone ordered and backed out, I’d never even heard of the Lightning and decided to give it a shot. After 6 months I have no regrets! I just need to lift it and put 35s on it and I’ll be set! One thing though… I have that annoying door rattle. Did you ever pinpoint or fix it?
Just found your channel - AMAZING!! Subscribed. I’m not surprised there are so many bugs, but I am surprised at how many customers are having issues. Keep up the great work.
Damn man, like you are a Beta tester for Ford. Great video, thank you for your to the point review of your specific issues. At this price point these issues should not exist, though it seems Ford has gone from Quality being job one to Quantity being job one the past few years.
The rattle near the dash is actually your side mirror interior cover. Just pull it straight off. It’s tabbed. Then snap it back firmly in place. That rattle will stop.
I subscribed to your channel after getting a few minutes into this video - which had been suggested in my feed. Great quality and very useful. I went to your channel to check out what else you've done, and watched the video about purchasing from the dealership in Frederick. I'm in the midwest but know someone who recently purchased a Bronco Sport at (I think) the same dealership in Frederick. Your positive attitude and outlook come through in the videos, and it's really helpful. It helps buyers think about the things that can go wrong or unexpected surprises with the vehicle and purchase process. I look forward to supporting your work. Thanks again.
Thanks for sharing these concerns, it's good information to have as we wait for our first Lightning. Don't give up on any dealership and start fixing these things yourself! My dealer is awesome and they go above and beyond, but I have had lame duck dealers as well. Find a dealer close to you that will fix this stuff without the attitude. Stay away from homemade fixes that might void your warranty. Enjoy that new truck! I'm jealous........🙂
You justify your title very well. I see quality issues in most vehicles delivered now. Not just Ford. Not sure what happened with the manufacturing process? Ford must address all your issues via your dealer without a cost. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for the video, it's so frustrating when you're stuck between the dealer and manufacture. I was about to pull the trigger on F-150 Lighting, but the more I do the research, makes me feel I should wait until the very basic issues are resolved, ford needs authority over dealer to repair minor flaw within days, not 6 weeks out.
You can still take it to the dealer for ALL these things you mentioned. It's under warranty. None of these issues are "annoying" they are just regular assembly issues that go along with a vehicle being made 24/7 to meet demand. The dealer will fix ALL this stuff.
I don't strongly disagree however due to the variances of supply chains, microchip production, lithium sourcing et cetera the people who were fortunate to get a 2022 Lightning are financially, at this time, $10G to $20G ahead of the $2023 crowd with more standard options on the 2022s. At that price I'll accept a few cosmetic glitches. Those price hikes by the way aren't just a FORD issue. All manufactures have jacked the prices for the 2023's.
Use that warranty as much as you can. Don’t do anything yourself. Not surprised by the issues you’re having. Hopefully you don’t have a major issue. I also wonder how you are dealing with charging
I have run into the same issue with the frunk. Pretty annoying. The only other thing I've experienced is that the 2nd level of auto AC blows harder than the 3rd level.
I have a similar issue with the driver's side running board. Mine has too much silicone underneath it and it's bubbled up. Appointment next week with dealership and also had 3 small scratches on the tailgate. Hopefully ford will resolve these issues.
Beautiful truck. I work at a Ford dealership in California. I am more than sure your dealership will take care of that running board. It is a faulty running board. As far as the panel on your 12 V cover. You can get them to replace that as well.
It's an pickup. Not an piece of artwork. My 2020 F150 XLT has an recall of the wipers. Said they can fly off. They haven't and they work perfectly. Other little body look problems. Yet again. It's an pickup. It runs. I can go upto 700 miles on an tank of gas. 36 gal tank. Loaded. If I want the EV range. I take my 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. 12 gal tank. Same distance. 230 miles. Again, 30 and under have an hard time comprehending things. It's an pickup. Not an car. They don't build anything perfectly. Deal with it or just take it back. Buy an car. You want high prices. Buy an gas or diesel one. EV are cheap. F450 diesel is over $100,000 all because of the technology in it. Technology is mega experience. 30 and under demands technology. Your going to pay for it out of pocket. No technology is dirt cheap. And it works. Enjoy. I will be passing you down the road while you wait for an charge. Not trolling. Just facts.
Excellent video, good things to look at when it arrives. I've been waiting on mine since June of 2021... I really hope Ford keeps their promise of providing the truck for the original MSRP promised as we roll into the 2023 model year. (I plan on ordering a Pro Trim)
I also have a f150 lightning that was a leftover/mannequin. The battery door cover was also busted and the step bar plaatic/rubber cover is warped as well. But i do not have rattles
Make a list, take to your dealer that should at least have the 3yr/36,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty. Squeeks and rattles can be very difficult find sometimes. You may have to take a test drive with the technician who will be assigned to repair your truck in order to properly identify/duplicate the rattles/noises (because some service writers are good for being vague on describing those concerns, e.g. " rattle in the dash and/or rattle in the drivers door" so the tech may hear something different from what you maybe hearing.) you're having so that they can find it and correct it. For your selection controls, im sure Ford has numerous software updates aka "reflashes" to both correct the "ok" button and for your front hood operation. As for your lower step the dealer will probably just glue it back down. The battery cover may been damaged during the PDI they should cover that too under warranty. Good luck with your new truck. Happy motoring.
I have the same issue with the rubber on the running board only on the drivers side. The other issues I haven't experienced in my truck. One odd issue that I do have is a popping sound coming from the speakers by the driver when the "engine" and ignition are off. Also I have big time issues with the Ford App. many times it doesn't register the status of the battery while charging, doesn't update the status of the truck when I sign on. I know it doesn't have anything to do with cell coverage as I park the vehicle outside in a good cell coverage area. Other than that I love the truck!
I suppose the frunk acts the same as all the other electric rear hatches ford has in their lineup. You can stop it or force it with your hand and the electric strut will pause because of the pressure. But you manually close it and it resets, safety feature. Probably also can hold the close button on the frunk and manually open it to a certain height, release the button and it'll only open to that height the next time you press the button. The rest of it really doesn't have an excuse and Ford needs to take note and fix these issues.
My running board is doing the same thing on the passenger side. Definitely a build quality issue. I would not try to fix. You have a number to bumper warranty. Let Ford replace it.
I agree with the comments that they are defective under normal use and should be returned. I noticed that running boards issue on my Plat lightning and they should do that on a $100k truck. You'll always get no if your don't ask, but you'll get a chance if you do. Just go with your case rehearsed firm, if you give them a way out, they'll say no.
Thanks for this video! I'm still waiting for my truck, but this is good information to know. I would not give up on a dealer or Ford for that matter. These vehicles are pretty pricey and the quality supposed to be "Job 1". I would not do any self fix. I would work with the dealer and or Ford to get these issues addressed.
The lightning that I looked at at the dealership here in Vermont had the same problem with the running board buckling up brand new truck the customer hadn’t even picked it up yet it is definitely an issue!
Nice video, I recently took delivery of my 22 Lightning Lariat and i love it so far so good. The only annoying thing is having to stop and charge while on the road, i drive alot for work so i usually stop 2xs a day to recharge but i guess i will get used to it. Anyways nice channel man keep up the great work.
@SEVLOG They should be able to replace it under warrenty under “fit for purpose”. If it is dodgy and has broken then it isn’t fit for purpose. Example had a hole in my floor carpet of my truck from where my foot sits when driving After a bout a year. I followed up with the dealer and they eventually agreed that the carpet should not wear out in a year from normal driving. So I would think the same with your plastic panel.
I have no issues to report with my Lightning yet. I have just three hundred miles on it. But my dealer said if I notice anything, bring it in and they will take care of it.
I am having an issue with toggling the Brake Coach on and off. It always says it is on. I am wondering if maybe I am experiencing a similar issue with the OK button. Have you heard of this ? I have car seats with one seat buckled so I am going to try your trick of unbuckling it and getting a pop up.
For everything that he showed in the video, the dealer should fix it. New cars/trucks come with a bumper to bumper warranty for all of these kind of issues. I cringed every time he said, it was "too late".
I would recommend finding a Good independent Mechanic/Bodyworker, I’ve owned a dozen new cars and I don’t trust a dealership to even do Oil Changes any more. Consider the "warranty" to maybe pay for a new Transmission, beyond that, they will just frustrate you hoping you’ll go away. The thing is, there is Less stuff to go wrong with the Hardware, and software is Not a dealership issue, so that leaves switches, sensors, wiring etc. So a good EV Mechanic should have (access to) the Diagnostic gear needed. It’s important to interview your future mechanic, to make sure of a commitment to specializing in the future of EV’s. Cheers from San Diego
Thanks for the review. I agree, that would annoy me as well. Im considering of buying this truck but still doubting the reliability of it. currently i drive a 2015 toyota tundra and ready for an upgrade.
As others have said yeah you need to take it back and let them take care of those problems. They should fix all of them except possibly the panel, but I would just tell him that I haven't been in there except one time and you noticed it right away.
No, they have to fix the panel too. It's meant to come off to access the 12v battery so even if he broke it by accident that should be covered by the warranty.
I hope you find the panel for $20 bucks. I'd say $100. All those issues are warranty, they will fix it. You have a 3 years 36000 Mike bumper to bumper warranty. Everything between the bumpers 👊😁👍🇺🇲
Cool truck with the issue. The running board is definitely covered by the warranty. You only noticed the door panel because it is so quiet. I bet in the door there is a little loose trash in it. Once you open it, it will fall out and problem solved.
My biggest issues so far are with the app and the interface. Both are pretty clunky but should be easily solvable if they just put some effort into app dev. Honestly, they should have looked for devs with tesla app dev experience and tried to hire them.
LOL right? It's a tough call. The amount of time and effort it takes to deal with the service center has to be less than the amount of effort it would take me to fix it myself.
I like your videos as you can tell I’m one of your subscriber. My reservation is sold out but M curious how much extra you pay for Lighting car insurance compared your ICE Ford pick up?
Hi. You look pretty in the driver seat.. nice. Would you give us an update on your Ford lightening? Will you consider purchasing a Toyota electric truck when it's available? Thanks.
I don't have a Lightning, so I can't quite hang with you all yet...BUT, I have a 2021 F150 Lariat with the 5.0 engine. Where I can empathize with this video is the software bugs. My dual display will sometimes just decide to show other screens than what I last set it to (typically I'm on Android Auto maps on the left and music displayed on the right). I'll come back in the truck and it will just decide I want Settings on the large side and built in nav on the right. Also my dash display will sometimes decide on its own to display something other than what I last set it to. It's annoying, but just software glitches. Once, my dash display decided to just not turn on at all. Info display was good, but nothing on the dash - and that's my instrument cluster and everything. Not good and I don't remember what goofy combo of things I was doing when I started the engine, but the dash screen was definitely unhappy. Ford obviously likes to push its software out quickly. I guess they feel like they don't need to refine anything before release since they can do an Over Air Update later, as long as the vehicles get to market quickly.
Hey @sevlog where’ve you been? Curious how day to day has been. Even if you don’t have too much to share please post how daily life in your XLT standard range has been or what you’ve been up to. Thanks! Love your content and bits of humor. Hope all is well.
I need to make a video of "2 issues I have with my 20 yr old Lightning at 118k miles". But seriously I got mine used from a Ford mechanic w 5k miles. Only problems I have are bc I let a mechanic do supercharger maintenance, and sort out electrical problems. They dropped me to only 8psi boost. I spent 8 months manually sorting out the random electrical shortcuts they lied about. I know most of the circuits by now bc I installed sound gear about 20 times (not all on the truck, all my vehicles get robbed for sound). I wouldn't buy one of these just because. Like problems at 1k miles? Ok maybe rough idle and few spark plugs at 78k miles. Ford has work to do. Go Lightning!
U wanna do a video of my 2004 rusty loud rattling Dakota? I think it would be a 4 hour video of all the annoying things 😅😊 there’s a new rattle every day!
None of what you're saying is relevant. It has the same technology and electronics as a regular F-150 the only thing that's working is the powertrain everything else is going to s***
I have a 2001 lightning. Was really really mad that they turned the lightning into a EV. My main issue is that the lightning was supposed to be a sport truck/muscle truck. They cap the top speed to 105 and you won't be able to tow anything. No matter what they say. I don't have any issues with them making an EV just not taking the lightning name for what it was supposed to be used for. Plus not to mention the rip off it is. The closest truck that comes to old lightning is the shelby f150 super snake sport. That has 775 hp and you can tow plus go well over 100 mph. Right now they are having issues selling these things since they are all over lots. Paying over msrp is just wrong. I saw a tow review of the lightning and hummer and the lightning needed to charge once for 36 mins for a 165 mile trip. That's nuts. I once towed from sf to Las Vegas. In an EV it would be impossible
The frunk "ISSUE" is not an issue. All cars with automatic hoods or tailgates can get in a confused state. You just manually close (as you did) it won't hurt it.
Love the videos. Is your lightning pretty quiet while driving? I can hear a fair amount of road noise through my drivers door. Was told these trucks are quiet, just don’t feel like dealing with service.
I'm sure people taking delivery of their lightnings appreciate this. I sure do thank you. Definitely take your truck back to the dealer to get these fixed. All will fall under bumper to bumper warranty, a minimum of 36,000 or 3 years.
Can you open the charge port door when your truck is locked? My Pro allows anyone to open it freely when locked. It should never open if is locked to avoid vandalism to your port. Another issue: it will not lock the charging plug, so anyone can just unplug your truck leaving you with no charge at all.
What you have is a 'shakedown' list of things that shook loose within a reasonable timeframe, and they should fix those problems at the dealership. Beyond that, it's important to submit these issues to Ford along with any other feedback you have, as they will compile a database of every little thing. When enough of those same issues are reported by other F-150 owners it will be addressed either by the engineers or on the production line.
battery cover panel is pretty flimsy. Same thing happened to me, on the same corner. Dealer replaced under warranty. I'm sure it's a common problem that they are aware with!

These issues are just the beginning, unfortunately.
That’s why vehicles have a bumper to bumper warranty. Use it! Great video
You justify your title very well. I see quality issues in most vehicles delivered now. Not just Ford. Not sure what happened with the manufacturing process? Ford must address all your issues via your dealer without a cost. Thanks for sharing
My wife has a 2021 Ram. No rattles. Hope Rams new EV trucks are as nice as hers
My 2022 Powerboost has no rattles either, but what does that have to do with his problem?
@@cwqrpportable because the lightning is functionally identical to every F-150 in the interior
@@ubeuonly ?
Thanks for the video, it's so frustrating when you're stuck between the dealer and manufacture. I was about to pull the trigger on F-150 Lighting, but the more I do the research, makes me feel I should wait until the very basic issues are resolved, ford needs authority over dealer to repair minor flaw within days, not 6 weeks out.
Could that front rattle be the missing clip from your 12V battery cover?
You can still take it to the dealer for ALL these things you mentioned. It's under warranty. None of these issues are "annoying" they are just regular assembly issues that go along with a vehicle being made 24/7 to meet demand. The dealer will fix ALL this stuff.
You gotta be kidding 1000 miles and a few weeks those things should be covered!
1st model year car blues... never buy a car until its 3rd or 4th year
I don't strongly disagree however due to the variances of supply chains, microchip production, lithium sourcing et cetera the people who were fortunate to get a 2022 Lightning are financially, at this time, $10G to $20G ahead of the $2023 crowd with more standard options on the 2022s.
Just facts.
If you have the issue with the Frunk not closing, use the manual pull in the cab to re-open it a little more and then you should be able to close it.
Excellent video, good things to look at when it arrives. I've been waiting on mine since June of 2021... I really hope Ford keeps their promise of providing the truck for the original MSRP promised as we roll into the 2023 model year. (I plan on ordering a Pro Trim)
get EVERYTHING in writing, signed by them, otherwise they have a habit of shafting people
Dude you have great quality!!! Just subbed. You should have many more subs
I agree with others Ford will fix pretty much all your issues. I’m glad you didn’t get a Tesla, your list would be at 200 and growing daily.
I think you were very fair to the truck and these issues, although relatively minor, would be very annoying to me for this price.
“Hey bob..” that was hilarious man, I like you 😂
I also have a f150 lightning that was a leftover/mannequin.
“I like to close my door with my hands…” 😂😂😂 Thanks for posting, my kind of video.
Wow, what a lucky guy. He only had 6 issues on a new Lightning EV. At least it didn't burn....YET!
What's your actual mileage per charge would you or have you travel long distance ?
I am sorry you are dealing with these issues. I have a Lightning too, but I have none of these problems.
My running board is doing the same thing on the passenger side. Definitely a build quality issue. I would not try to fix. You have a number to bumper warranty. Let Ford replace it.
Thanks for update...
Dealer/Ford needs to fix all this for you...couple of weeks or not.
@SEVLOG
They should be able to replace it under warrenty under “fit for purpose”.
Thanks for posting. I appreciate a video about this.
Subscribed - you need to keep buying EVs and reviewing, this content and style is fantastic.
glad I'm aware of these issues
for a truck i'll never be able to afford lol
Most of that stuff should be covered. I would be surprised if your dealership does not take care of it.
For the creaking shouldn’t the dealer fix that? Thanks for making these vids!
Everything between the bumpers
👊😁👍🇺🇲
Cool truck with the issue. The running board is definitely covered by the warranty. You only noticed the door panel because it is so quiet. I bet in the door there is a little loose trash in it. Once you open it, it will fall out and problem solved.
My biggest issues so far are with the app and the interface. Both are pretty clunky but should be easily solvable if they just put some effort into app dev. Honestly, they should have looked for devs with tesla app dev experience and tried to hire them.
Thanks for the update
Take that to the dealer for the running board. There is no way they can blame you for messing that up lol
LOL right? It's a tough call. The amount of time and effort it takes to deal with the service center has to be less than the amount of effort it would take me to fix it myself.
@@EVTruckLOG do not fix! New running board should be installed.
Thanks for these updates 🙏 🙌
Hey @sevlog where’ve you been? Curious how day to day has been. Even if you don’t have too much to share please post how daily life in your XLT standard range has been or what you’ve been up to. Thanks! Love your content and bits of humor. Hope all is well.
Yea, I just received mine last Thursday and my runner board is separating at well.
I see the Ford warped dash has made it to the running boards
If only social media knew how many work dashes were changed, and some people didn't even complain about it
I need to make a video of "2 issues I have with my 20 yr old Lightning at 118k miles".
Thanks for brining this to us
You bought a brand new model auto with new technology as soon as it came out ?
None of what you're saying is relevant. It has the same technology and electronics as a regular F-150 the only thing that's working is the powertrain everything else is going to s***
Great video, minor but all really important issues
At least there's no plastic oil pan on your truck like the one's Ford puts on the Explorer ST, the Mustang GT, and their 2.7 engines.
is it brand new or did you buy a used vehicle?. my 2019 expedition you hear no outside nosies at all. my 2020 escape is a piece of CRAP
my running board is doing the same thing. would love to see how you fix it
Does your XLT have adaptive cruise control? Not a single video pauses on the steering wheel long enough to see the settings.
But why keep it? Do you have to keep it? I'm thinking for $55,000 you could do better.
My issue is it's not even as efficient on long trips as gas trucks so whats the purpose of them except if you stay local?
Can you open the charge port door when your truck is locked?
My Pro allows anyone to open it freely when locked.
It should never open if is locked to avoid vandalism to your port.
Another issue: it will not lock the charging plug, so anyone can just unplug your truck leaving you with no charge at all.
Sounds like this is your first Ford
If he only knew that he would know is service Personnel on a first-name basis and be receiving recall notices from Ford 3 times a year
Can you explain the federal credit? It's not deducted at the purchase ? But rather returned to you at tax time if you owe that much money?
What you have is a 'shakedown' list of things that shook loose within a reasonable timeframe, and they should fix those problems at the dealership. Beyond that, it's important to submit these issues to Ford along with any other feedback you have, as they will compile a database of every little thing. When enough of those same issues are reported by other F-150 owners it will be addressed either by the engineers or on the production line.
battery cover panel is pretty flimsy. Same thing happened to me, on the same corner. Dealer replaced under warranty. I'm sure it's a common problem that they are aware with!
Same battery door issue on same corner.
This is expected for 1st gen Lightnings and those coming first off the line
Opening the Fronk sounds like a Hot Pocket when done.. coming out of the microwave
Curious how is going this many months in cost wise, since I'm aware you don't have the luxury of home charging, new data through the colder months?
