Really agree with a lot of your points. There is only so much wiggle room on a otf design like that. Almost have to look at intent...and good luck with that. Really like the looks of the AVD.
I'm still wondering how it locks up internally. The "sharpening choils" on the Combat Troodons serve a dual purpose as the lock cutouts; when the blade is retracted the internal lock bar swings into that cutout and locks the blade shut. I would actually guess that this more closely mimics the Benchmade Infidel on the inside, as opposed to a Marfione OTF design.
I have opened it up. It's exactly like the CT internally. It has a t shaped tang hidden inside that the closing gate locks to. I am planning a take down video even though there really isn't much noteworthy inside
Dude, have you opened the piranha? I'm curious to see if you got lucky with 2 or 4 sear pins...yeah, they got cheap and stripped them down to 2 instead of the sandshark esc' 4 which is obvs stronger n better! Not sure how old yours is or when u got it but I just missed the boat and got the 2 sear. Am looking for pieces to make it proper strong. (The official words were it doesn’t need 4, 2 is fine and yes it works but...y'know!) E.M., did you even know any of this?
I agree with a lot of your points but for some reason this still feels like a microtech copy in a lot of ways. Also I am having some trouble finding a clear answer on where this thing is actually made. Just found your channel by the way. Really enjoy your videos.
@@Justaguy-e4w Wasnt trying to be a jerk. I was trying to gracefully state that it would be a bad move for me legally to give my opinion on this question.
🤦 Who the fuck hasn't "copied" Microtech? Like honestly, nearly every single OTF on the market looks the same as all the others with the exception of a very few. Its just as stupid of an argument as when people say that the orange Ozark Trail knife is a "clone" or "copy" of a Bugout which is quite literally the most basic knife design out there.
The blade shape of the ADV is noticeably different, as is the tapered fuller design. Microtech didn't invent the fuller. As a Microtech fanboy, I will say that I can dig the ADV.
Microtech’s loose switches are 100% the result an intermittent QC failures. I’ve received both tight and loose switches on same platforms multiple times. Their after sales support is🗑️👀
The switch leg mounts are also a constant point of failure in Microtechs. At least, Ultratechs. Through multiple UT models, I've experienced 4-5 leg mount failures per knife.
I would say with a otf s35vn is actually a better idea because of its strength. And with microtechs heat treatment the ADV will probably cut longer anyway lol. And no they are not the same at all!?
I mean yeah kinda. That said Microtech makes unlicensed Star Wars themed knives... so glass houses and all.
100%

@@edged_mindset Really? It looks and sounds so distinct I never would have guessed haha. Thanks for the quick reply.
If it comes with a glass breaker..and they call it a "skull crusher"...run
🤣
Glass breakers are hideous😂😂

I havnt but I'm pretty sure I have the 2 sear based on the year I got it

China
Where they are made? That's a very good question to ask. A question that might require some good logic thinking to get an answer to
@@edged_mindsetor I could just ask the guy making the video on it but I guess that’s too much trouble

@@Justaguy-e4w If you want what the manufacturer is stating as country of origin, they would say "Made in the USA"
Good comparison
The only way to see if it is a copy is to open it up and compare the mechanisms. Cheers!
They are the same inside. But so are 97% of all double action OTF's
I somewhat agree, but I'm not sure taking a page from Heretic is solid advice if the intent is to not be like Microtech...

Looks nothing like a microtech
Totally agree
Not a copy but I think it is made in China.
😬
south african made in usa
