A long time ago, a friend of mine (a psychologist) asked me to show them a picture of me as a child where I felt very happy. Sadly, the ONLY one where I remember being absolutely happy was my Kindergarten picture. When I sing along to this song, I am singing to myself at age 6. Sometimes it makes me sad to remember that; and sometimes I get mad. But then I realize that I am way stronger than me, at 6 years old, ever thought I ever could be and would become now!

Adding to that the mental image of the last line, dangling that last second hope that maybe they could still "be friends" only for the MUSIC of the CHORUS to be the ending slap to the face that says "nope, never mind, get out." The sound itself of that musical climax being the final slamming of the door hits with my brain literally showing me a person slamming the door in the face of a hopeful fool thinking maybe there's a glimmer of a chance. Could just be me applying it to scenarios that happen over and over in my life with people I thought wanted one thing but were angling for another that I had to completely soul-destroy to get them to take the hint.
