Amazing video, as always! Thanks for making a video on the WP, my favorite role in FM (and football in general). The WP its the closest we have to the "Meia Esquerda" ("Left Midfield", in a literal translation, because its normally played on the left flank), a role popular in Brazil, but that went into obscurity since everyone started to play in 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3. Guys like Rivelino used to play like this. The last 2 great examples of this that I can think of its Ricardinho on the 98-00 Corinthians (that won the first FIFA World Club tournament) and Renato Augusto, also on Corinthians, in 2015 (the team that put Tite in charge of Brazil's National Team). Also, Tite actually used Neymar in a more offensive, more "wingery" version of the WP-A on the National Team, complementing him with Marcelo overlapping at Full-Back, Casemiro as a Anchor, Paulinho as a Segundo Volante and Coutinho at the other flank. That happened at 2016, 2017. The best version of Brazil's National Team since 02-06, before he changed it to a more positional, Guardiola-inspired play. Anyways, sorry for the long comment, I just loved the video! Now, I'm creating my new save hehe
this is an amazing comment... kudos! I always love to read about the history of soccer tactics (even recent history at that). Here in the states growing up it was harder to come across this stuff, so I love it!!
After you have finished with this player role series, I think it’d be great to see some content recreating different tactics (past and present). I think your understanding of roles and combinations would be suited to recreating different manager’s tactics.
I've thought about doing, but I have so many tactic ideas for mine I always get sidetracked haha. Who knows, we've got some time before FM25 so you never know what kind of video may pop up
Do you have a background in production and/or editing or something? Your video/audio is so good. You could maybe use a de-esser on the vocals to make it even better.
I do!! I have a background in production and broadcasting. And thanks for the tip/idea! I've thought about additional mixing or EQ'ing (like a de-esser) but I've been really happy with the vocal results, so I figure "why upset the apple cart" if it works haha
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker The sound is great, you dont need to do anything. I was just trying to think of something that wasnt perfect about it. A couple of S and T sounds come out quite sharp but overall its sounding great!
I would love a video on the escandinha or ladder passing along with 1-2's to allow you to break down a packed defense. So this role, with an inverted wingback on attack who plays 1-2's and then a cm_A and the poacher's who also do so you get some old school run through the whole defense and score goals.
mmm that's a good video idea; I've never heard that term before (every day's a school day!) but I love that style of passing. I'll have to look into it some more :D
Thank you so much for your videos, always enjoy your detailed explanations and use what I learn on my saves. May I ask for your opinion on what are the best roles for old players with low physical stats in defense, middlefield and attacking? I like to develope players but wanna have balance with more experience ones
you're welcome and thank you for the kind words :) Depending on the physical attributes, usually it's the lack speed in old players and lack of strength in young players. So I'd avoid roles that are "runners" (like the Segundo Volante, Central Midielder (A)) for those slow players and avoid using physical roles for the younger ones (Pressing Forward, Ball Winning Midfielder, etc...) You can also help those players out by avoiding team instructions that play into those weaknesses. So if you have an old, slow striker, don't play a direct counter system. Focus more on a slow, possession system. Or if you have a bunch of youth players in your squad (who aren't strong enough quite yet for your league), don't play a high pressing/tackle harder system. Hope that helps :)
@ Thank you so much for your explanation, I am playing gegenpress tactic on my save so I am aware it can be very demanding but I am looking to keep my +30 players to make it more realistic but need to adapt roles for them. Maybe it can be a topic for your next video now that you finish with roles :) so far I understood that ancor man, half back or enganche can fit into it since they are more positional roles. Have a nice weekend! :)
I’d love it if, once you're done with the role videos, you could start making videos on more "general" tactical or theoretical topics. That way, we can understand how and why we choose to have the team play a certain way and learn how to actually put it into practice, Idk if you get what I'm trying to say Also, good video as always ❤
Yea I think I do!! I'm excited to get into some of those tactical topics; I've always wanted to get into them but I've been waiting to finish the full catalog so that way we'll all references for all the player roles to go back to And thank you for the comment :)
Since I always love where the Poacher is positioned, and I don't want to upset thee team's shape just for the midfield, I'd focus on player instructions for the CM(A). The first one I would try is probably "stay wider", just to get him out of the space. But "roam from position" or "moves into channels" could be effective as well
i agree about the defensive aspect of the role ! What is your opinion if the player used as WP has some good defensive atrributes will that make him a little better when I dont have the ball or his behaviour will not change since the role has many hard coded instructions ?? (many times when i use my 4-4-2 and have WP on I click the trap outside team instruction) p.s. i really must join your patreon so i can have a proper chat with you boss !!!
so the role will behave (basically) the same with different players, but their attributes will still influence how they perform defensively. For example, a player with a 15 work rate, 15 bravery, 15 anticipation (and so on) will be a better defensive player than a player with a 11 work rate, 11 bravery, and 11 anticipation. Basically how much effort they put into the game, if that makes sense And if you check out some of the recent videos, there's a link to the general Discord server. you are welcome to join us :D
I'm going to put the upcoming schedule a little bit below this comment, just in case you (or another reader) doesn't want any of the video topics spoiled: . . . . We've got two role videos left: The next one is a combo video and it'll be the Sweeper Keeper and Goalkeeper. I still wanted to cover them, but didn't think it'd be enough to do seprate ones so I lumped them together. And then, of course, that leaves the namesake of the channel for the one after that haha
I don't use presets anymore, but they're totally viable if you're looking to try and recreate a certain style and need a starting point :) What kind of 442 are you looking to run?
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker its a arsene wenger recreation its complete and really good ,not meta but fun to use . it has a role i normally dont use (wide mifielder )
As for traits, I would recommend "try long range passes" and "likes to switches ball to other flank" as an option. Given the fact they usually starts out wide, cutting inside and having these way to move the ball faster to a dangerous position could break out the defense. Especially if the opponent has a offensive fullback/wingback.
oh yea good call(s), I think I'd especially like "likes to switch ball to other flank"; I think their inside cutting runs with that trait could be super effective
@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker 💯! And playmakers can be slow. They don't have to, but they can. Put an old guy with strong mentals and technicals as a wide playmaker, coupled with a fast wb/fb and you have a hack of a flank 😉
I will never understand why the WP isn't available in the AML/R but you can use an AP there but the AP can't be used on the ML/R. Some lazy coding from SI 😅
Not psychic this time 😄 I havnt started watching yet but I cant ever see me using this role, like why would you want your play maker just focusing on one side of the pitch? Nah, never in my lifetime! Haha just kidding, maybe your video could sway me, lets see....👀 **edit** interesting they do act like wingers I see, could be persuaded after all, I do recall using Juan Mata at Man utd many moons ago as a wide play maker actually.
@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker ill certainly keep them in mind 🙂 im actually using Raumdauters more since watching your vid and now knowing who to pair them with, in fact your videos have been of great help overall, ive got a lof of your advice in the back of my mind when playing now, even gave someone some advice on FB yesterday with his IFs from something you had said, all I can say is thank you sir 👍
@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker another thing is I always get the urge to turn the FM back on after watching your stuff, its 6am on a Saturday morning and im debating back to bed or FM 😄
@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker you wouldnt believe.. I signed a player at the start of the season Zeki amoundi, decent stats and presumed he would be good at inside forward, all season hes had flat 6s, played him as wide playermaker and almost won man of the match, nice, thanks again 👍
The WP deserves a special classification: "Roles I want to love, but never quite do what I want"
The number of hard coded instructions really limit how you can tailor the role... you're kinda stuck with what you get
Amazing video, as always! Thanks for making a video on the WP, my favorite role in FM (and football in general).

Awesome as always man, looking forward to the wing play video... there's surprisingly little on that tactic i find.
Yea wing play is underrated!! That'll be a fun tactic video to make
My favourite role playing WP on Wengerball tactics
Converting technical central and attacking midfielders into wide playmakers.
Feels like a CM would be a natural out on the wing, especially since the WP will move back centrally a lot of the time anyways
an informative video about a role i have never used before! 👍
thanks :) It's fun role to use, though a bit limited since it's only in one position
Do you have a background in production and/or editing or something? Your video/audio is so good. You could maybe use a de-esser on the vocals to make it even better.

Always enjoy using this role with a Wing Back on attack duty overlapping. The hardcoded PIs is unfortunate though.
yea the instructions are the opposite of the generic roles; not a lot of customization
You mentioned additional instructions that could carve more space for the cm/an and poacher: what did you mean exactly?📝

Alongside the trequartista as the roles that never let me down no matter what.
two great ones for sure
in my runs (FM23), WP operates almost identical to IW both in support and attack. The only difference is how often they get the ball in the match.
I always liked how the IW stays wide and then cuts inside to split the defense. Sometimes you lose that since you can't tell the WP to stay wide :(
After all postion role series. Can you explain about each trait on fm?
I like that idea! I've been gathering some clips of player traits and would like to do something on them in the future. thanks for the suggestion :)

this is the new de bruyne role that pep gave him this season but unfortunately in fm24 has so many limits hopefully in fm25 will work better
Yea, it would've been nice if the WPM had less instructions (like the AP does) so you could really customize it
Can you maybe make a video about the sweeper keeper?
I have a feeling you'll enjoy Tuesday's video 😉

true, sometimes the mezzala can be tough to implement. Since usually you want a DM with the mezzala
