Lexi Thompson has announced she will retire from professional golf at the end of the season. She is playing in her 18th Women's Open, and the fact she is only 29 speaks to a career that began at such a young age. Thompson explains her decision in her first time speaking to the media since announcing the move earlier today.

Oh no! She's been one of my fav players for so long! But I respect her decision of course...it must be crazy tough playing week in and week out with such high stakes. Pressure must be insane and it must be so tiring.

@@derykhamshaw3362 oh for sure, atheletes are defo priveleged compared to others in the world...i was just talking about it in a sports context - golf is soo mentally taxing and i can understand why she has taken this decision. like she said, it's her 18th us open so she's been in this environment for a long time so it's not surprising that she'd want a change

If she wins, she's not going to retire.
If she looking into start an family than don't start after 30 years age. She retire before 30 of age to work with the new family than that is an very good decision.
Firstly, she’s a net worth of $7M minimum so don’t feel too sorry for her.
Secondly, as a former PGA golf professional I find this both laughable & sorta insulting.
