  • Great walking day, perfect weather and wonderful scenery. Must be getting fitter as I decided to take the more challenging route along, up and down a gorge (Creuse valley) above and then along the Creuse river. The valley of the painters. A bit of a bushwalk but well worth the effort. If you like Monet he liked to paint this area so you will have seen where I walked today.
Arived at Euguzon at 11am, found a cafe and attended the Rotary Nomads meeting via zoom. Bought some pastries from the boulanger for lunch and headed off.
Creuse is one of the most rural and sparsely populated departments in France. Until the 1980s, Occitan was the primary language of rural areas here. It is on the Northern edge of the central massive. The walk today has been principally over rolling hills with more forrest, intersected by a couple of steep valleys.
I am now in Crozant another village on a steep valley hillside. Lots of steps and steep paths to climb up to the village centre and my accomodation (at the top!).
The ancient fortress of Crozant is here which was started back in the 6th century and developed into a huge castle. An earthquake in 1606 finished it off.
Treated myself to a huge dinner in a restaurant located next to the castle ruins with magnificent views overlooking the valley and river. Great way to end a great days walking.
