    PLEASE SUBSCRIBE: The half guard years ago was known to be just a stalling, or safety position. Now it is considered to be one of the most dynamic grappling positions you can be in. Everyone should have a half guard game in their arsenal. This video is meant to serve as a reference and not a detailed instructional.

    Been doing BJJ for 8 years, but never have seen such great videos to put everything together in a great overview. Helps just to watch one then go roll!

    BJJ already blows my mind with its chess-like antics every day but THIS REALLY REALLY BLEW MY MIND LIKE NOTHING ELSE, especially the rolly/spinny moves like 2:36 and 6:30...
    I mean I've taken college math classes like multi-variable calculus that require visualizing weird solutions in multiple dimensions but this video puts them all to shame!
    Every engineer, chess player, and intellectual person should be exposed to the mind-bending beauty of BJJ.

    Your rapid fire techniques are perfect. You are not supposed to get everything down watching the video a couple times. You watch the video indefinitely and train while working key techniques that fit your style. Its perfect and its been improving my Jiu Jitsu. Even the proper Shrimping tutorial has improved my hip escapes both front and reverse. Thank you and keep up the great work

    That was amazing, thank you very much for your videos sir, the rolling triangle and rolling omoplata were complete jaw droppers for me and I hope my friends don't mind rolling with me tomorrow so I can practice these moves. Thank you again for these videos.

    @captainzorikh
    from what my instructor has told me, you're supposed to keep your outside leg planted and bridge slightly while pulling your inside arm in so that you can recover a laying-on-your-side position. You should only lock your half guard when your opponent is attempting to pass.

    I really like the approach you are using to make your videos. I think you are the first who did these small vids with many fast following techniques in it. It is nice to see the whole variety of possible techniques from a certain position.

  • @abbyisdead123

    Theres also a twister sitting right there if you use the same method as the calf slicer you can transition through both effectivly

  • @dastrn
    @dastrn 12 років тому

    @captainzorikh Your job in the half guard is ALWAYS to get on your side and try to get the one underhook. If you're flat on your back, you have almost no attacks or sweeps available, and you will be passed. If your on your right side, you your right hand to block your opponent's left hand. Otherwise, he can get head and arm control and flatten you out.
    You can think of your full-guard the same way. Try to be slightly on your side. You will have more dynamic movement.

    Wow, mind blown! I'm a blue belt and this is a lot to decipher. I don't even know where to begin. I think just the recognition there is a whole you can do on the bottom. Seeing points where I think I'm passed is actually the opening for a submission or sweep. Amazing. Thank you!.

    when I trained, i would do the lockdown when possible, sometimes the guys are bigger and you need that moment to rest before you do your next move...if it works for you keep it going, some guys hate that move, especially when they can't break it...

  • @captainzorikh
    @captainzorikh 12 років тому

    @jasculs I guess that's the whole trick, then. What do I need to learn to help me get on my side when my opponent is keeping me pinned, flat on my back, with no room to turn over or squeeze in a leg under the belly or get the underhook?

    also, why not die? Is it human nature to fight back when faced with life/death situations? Is it pride to defend all we have in this hell of a world? What's the driving force in your self defence mechanism? If you've got none, you've nothing to lose. You won't fear death, and you won't hesitate when the time comes to make a hasty decision. When you become too attached, you'll find it hard to let go. We all make mistakes, we all die. So why fight back? Something to prove? or is it out of fear?
