I wish it was a stand alone vehicle because I do love the vehicle mode but cant stand the mech mode. I feel the extra parts and mechanism added for the sub par mech mode made it bigger and more expensive than it should've been. I am however excited for the booster pack 5. I feel they did it justice leaving it primarily as a standalone jet plane
The mecha mode doesn't really detract from the vehicle mode all that much, really. If you wanted it to be permanently in vehicle mode, then a couple spots of glue along the tail and just not putting the arms on would do that for you. As for the extra cost, I personally feel that the money was put into the weapons and cockpit design to make it as modular as possible while still being able to hold any of the 1/24 scale figures that they put out. The only "extra" stuff I think that could have been left out without affecting the rest of the build is maybe some of the joint polycaps in the legs/tail, but you're not really saving much there. The Hexa Gear line is still all about modularity, so they still probably would have kept the connection points to maintain that. End of the day, I don't feel the mecha mode is what's adding all that much to the price.

The connection was a bit tight, but otherwise, no, not even a little fiddling. I was afraid I'd have to, but after just getting it lined up and pushing a tad, it went in fine.

I'd say it's actually pretty close to that, honestly. It's rather long in helicopter mode, and stands fairly tall in mech mode.
