Some comments from a fellow EA coder you may want to look into: a) your strategy tester is not accounting for COMISSION, which I can see will be high looking at your margin usage (green area under the equity curve), to tackle that use the MQL command TestWithdrawal to withdraw funds while backtesting when you open a position that will simulate the commission expenses. b) on your LONG entry you need to set the open price at the top of the 2-3h30 am range plus spread, since long positions open at ask price and your range seem to be the top bid price of that time interval. Sharpe of 1.01 and expected payoff of 1.07 is way too low to survive commission costs.

Hey, thanks for the comment. Last time I checked it the commission were charged correctly in the MT5 tester. The bid and ask topic is always something to think about. But with ic markets I usually have really small spreads so it does not really matter in the long run. On average it does not have a huge impact. But I think every programmer has his own preferences here ;)
Ive backtested my personal breakout ea and it can do 12% a year. Ive used 21 years %100 quality data as per your video but if i went live id reduce the lot size to alot less
Thanks Rene, very interesting! Have you thought about adding a spread filter to the EA? It might keep you out of trouble when spreads peak during low liquidity or news events. Really enjoy your channel.😀

It is always based on the time of my broker IC Markets. So timezone is GMT+2 or GMT+3 (when daylight savings is in effect).
Dein Zeitbereich ist interessant. Ich komme nach einer WalkForwardAnalyse auf einen Zeitbereich von 8-9:30 mit einem PF von 3,1 und DD von 5%. Allerdings habe ich auch nur die letzten 2,5 Jahre optimiert, weil sich seit 2020 die Marktphase geändert hat und die Vola gestiegen ist. Wäre mal interessant für mich, was du für Filter drin hast. Außerdem handelt er bei mir nicht jeden Tag, weil ich einen simplen VolaFilter drin habe. Aber sehr schönes Video!

Hey the data comes from your broker. Usually there is a long period available in mt5. At least if you work with ic markets :) I did not add any external data.
this made nothing between august 2013 and april 2018. for some reason it came good over the last part of the test period. may be better with a trailing stop. it also needs a spread filter as you showed with the really bad entry it took on your video. to avoid false breakouts there should be an amount outside the range where you set the stop orders. if you add all this it may be a winner
Great job Rene. I am just wondering how did you come up with such a specific range between 2:00-3:30, is there any reference somewhere about it? Does this same range works with other pairs like EURUSD and so, or just with JPY related pairs, because it is Asian currency?

I just run a lot of optimizations and the times around this period where really good. In eurusd I use different times.

Nice job Rene. Regarding that LONG stop entry opened by a high spread, have you tried to filter out such bad entries by limiting the max size of the spread? I wonder if the backtesting results would be better..
I just tested the EA but it seems that for this past 2 years is not working, with some adjustments might generate some more profits for this year. This, applying only as it is gave me 37% accuracy, in the long term if fine, from 2012-01-01 to 2022-08-20 I get only 10000k with .1 of volume. Don't get me wrong, it's beautiful and very good profits, I learned so much from this and from you, thank you so much.

Sorry, but if this is your best strategy, certainly you don't make money with. The equity for 6 years side walking. Impossible make money with this strategy. 😅
Imagine not making a profit, in fact making a loss from the end of 2013 to 2019, while cryptos did like 20000%. Trash strategy, sometimes it makes money but it was ranging for 6 YEARS.

I contacted broker and they checked and told me to contact the programmer of the ea. The programmer is not helpful behe takes months to respond or fix and errors. Do you know how i can fix this?

Hey! In the input section where the trading times go - can I put MY LOCAL PC TIME instead of 2 am? At 2 am your time it translates to 8 pm my time.- I'm in Central Mountain time in the US. Or does it have to be 2 am which is YOUR time? I don't see a setting from which to choose the time options according to areas.

You can't in MT5 UI, you have to do it programmatically starting from your broker's server timezone. It's no big deal, I do it for strategies targeting the US indices market.

For 10 years back test, the final result is quite poor: only 46% net profit. In my opinion, it doesn't help, it doesn't work!!

Hey, the return in percent does not really say much ;) if you double the lotsize it will also double the profits. You should also look at the stability and many other factors :)
Well René, I guess you are using $10000 initial deposit and 0.1 lot size (or less) for your back test. Can you use 10 lots size instead? I think stability is good, of course, but if the strategy is not much profitable, it doesn't help much!!

Hello René. From time 7:10 in the video, there are many breakouts to the upper range, but the EA didn't place any buy order immediately, only after some time. Is there any filter there?
Very cool, very good job. I have exactly the same in my farm of eas. I suggest using PositionSize calculation based on % Balance, e.g. each order has a particular SL distance, and lot size is based on that distance and planned risk, for ex 1% of the current Balance. You will be amazed at the gigantic performance gain of this EA against to fix lot size :)

Hey, yeah that's definitely an option. But in the live trading account I showed in this video the account balance is so small that a variable lotsize does not really work. It would have to round too often and too much.

Hey, you can use a global variable for it. Just use a bool variable and set it to true if a trade is executed. And every new day you reset the variable to false. Before a new trade signal you can then check the variable state.

Ich arbeite hier mit Pending Stop Orders für den Einstieg. Er ändert sich bei jedem Tick, bzw. ständig und man kann ihn deshalb nicht wirklich berücksichtigen.

The range time should be determined on whats the most profitable over the long run because that will produce the most consistant results

Hm.. Yeah I think so. You can just try it in the tester. It is either this or the second and a half hour of the asian session I guess.

You can't in MT5 UI, you have to do it programmatically starting from your broker's server timezone. It's no big deal, I do it for strategies targeting the US indices market.

For 10 years back test, the final result is quite poor: only 46% net profit. In my opinion, it doesn't help, it doesn't work!!
Hey, the return in percent does not really say much ;) if you double the lotsize it will also double the profits. You should also look at the stability and many other factors :)
Well René, I guess you are using $10000 initial deposit and 0.1 lot size (or less) for your back test. Can you use 10 lots size instead? I think stability is good, of course, but if the strategy is not much profitable, it doesn't help much!!

Very cool, very good job. I have exactly the same in my farm of eas. I suggest using PositionSize calculation based on % Balance, e.g. each order has a particular SL distance, and lot size is based on that distance and planned risk, for ex 1% of the current Balance. You will be amazed at the gigantic performance gain of this EA against to fix lot size :)
Hey, yeah that's definitely an option. But in the live trading account I showed in this video the account balance is so small that a variable lotsize does not really work. It would have to round too often and too much.

Hey, you can use a global variable for it. Just use a bool variable and set it to true if a trade is executed. And every new day you reset the variable to false. Before a new trade signal you can then check the variable state.

Kannst du da eine "Increase Lot after loss by xxx Pips" Function einbauen ? Also immer wenn der gesamte Trade verloren wurde wird beispielsweise mit 0.04 Lot gestartet anstatt 0.02 Lot
Das ist natürlich möglich. Ich denke aber nicht, dass ich das einbauen werde, da ich in dem Konto komplett ohne Positionserhöhungen arbeite.

Ich arbeite hier mit Pending Stop Orders für den Einstieg. Er ändert sich bei jedem Tick, bzw. ständig und man kann ihn deshalb nicht wirklich berücksichtigen.

Yeah true :D I kinda want to keep it like this because I do not know if there will be a bad period following. The account is mainly to show that automated trading can work but it is a really small account anyway ;)
