Glenn is probably the most widely recommended mango tree for people who are getting their first tree or only want to have one tree. Glenn is a top 5 dooryard tree and a top 3 among early varieties.
We’ve had out Glenn tree for about two years & we got two small DELICIOUS mangoes in our first season ! Unfortunately we didn’t get any this year due to a bad winter frost How ever this is my first fruit tree ever & I’ve managed to keep it alive & thriving ❤
I have a Glenn growing in my little three tree mango plantation here in Mullumbimby Australia. My only complaint is how voraciously the flying foxes get stuck into the unripe fruit. The other mangos in the little plantation are Mai Lam Doc and Kensington Pride. All three mangos are low fibre ( proper English Spelling) and great for chutney.
I went to a nearby nursery here in Southern California that is selling so called 15 gallon Haden seedlings for $100, and while perusing these found two that had writing on the big containers -- Glenn and Golden Nugget. Both had conspicuous graft unions and so I bought both of these, which stood out from the others at this nursery in that the Glenn was smaller in leaf growth and the Gold Nugget, larger than the glenn and with beautiful leaf growth, both having been subjected in the winter of 2020 to a freeze, says the nurseryman, but this freeze was very short lived and, at my home a few miles away, we've seen no hard freezes in at least a decade, and put the Glenn in the ground strategically to shade some overly exposed young Paw Paw elite cultivars -- I have 15 or 20 of these, I think, two of which are the wondrous Susquehanna. Now, alas, when I eased the Glenn out of its 15 gallon pot I discovered that the dude I bought it from had himself bought this bunch of 15 gallon so-called Haden seedlings I found that it contained a very small root system evidently due to having just been potted up from a five gallon mango, which necessitated, I thought, my need to cut off all the leaves in the suddenly 90 degree heat -- don't know if this was wise or not -- but the Golden Nugget I might just keep in its container over another fierce summer. Otherwise I have collected a bunch of mangoes from Florida, all in three gallon containers, most flowering profusely, but I followed Chris's tip of cutting back most of the panicles so that leaf growth would be faster that way and the tree itself stay more healthy, most in my catio/greenhouse -- Carrie, Keitt, Kesar, Alphonzo, Cotton Candy, Ice Cream, Coconut Cream, Lemon zest, Orange essence, Orange Sherbet, Bailey's Marvel, Fruit Punch, all of these 3 gallons costing around $100 each. Also in the catio/greenhouse, I have some VERY rare tropical fruits -- Biriba, Guanabana, Fairchild Canistel, Fairchild Green Sapote, Olosapo, Achacha, Abiu. Outside are 10 to 15 Cherimoyas and Aremoyas, two lychees, four Tahitian Pummelos (IMHO the world's best tasting fruit, period, with this caveat that they taste so unbelievably, in my experience, WHEN GROWN IN TAHITI, YET HOW THEY SHALL DO IN california I've yet to discover. I've heartlessly murdered two earlier planted Green Sapotes, mostly because they evidently want no truck with the three weeks of 110 degree here, as we had last summer. And insofar as the Paw Paws go, well, in such stressful conditions I've been shading them heavily and misting them all throughout this furious heat spell. It is a full time job but also a heavenly one.
You have a beautiful mango collection! (I am trying to grow tropical trees in SF Bay Area, Zone 9B) Are you in zone 9B or 10A? Have you tried growing sapodillas, sugar apple, jackfruit and durian? Thanks!
Can we please get a break down like this on an Irwin tree if you guys have one? Just purchased my first grafted tree from a nursery and I’ve got three grafted rootstocks with my neighbors scions that I’m hoping will make it. Thanks so much 😁
Great video, thank you. I love your videos! I am going to plant two mangoes in my garden in Nice, France. I am deciding between the Osteen, the Glenn and the Irwin. I'm leaning towards the Irwin and Glenn. In your video you say that Glenn's fruit drops quickly. How quickly are we talking? Is it a matter of days/weeks, or a month? Thank you.
I don't know CA sources. I think CaromaicaTropicals.com might ship to CA If you live in area that gets seasonal strong winds, you should probably wait until after the winds end.
Thinking to buy one plant dont know indian weather its grow good or not , There is a test case for this and how much TSS it is, please tell in the comment below.
I have a Glenn Mango in a 10 gallon. I want to plant in the ground but my wife thinks the roots will lift up pavers/concrete? Any truth to that? Oh btw I'm in California.
It's possible. If you do plant it near the concrete/pavers, you can root prune the tree annually to make sure the roots don't establish under the pavers.
I tried a Glenn mango tonight and thought it was rather bland. It reminded me of my Haden mangos early in the season. The Hadens got better latter in the season. Maybe the same thing happens with Glenn.

I am reading this 6 years later. How have your mangos thrived and especially the Glenn?
Awesome job, a Maha chanok mango video will be great information, thanks a lot.
We won't have any 'Maha chanok' mangos this season, but we will try to do a video on that variety as soon as possible. Thanks for the suggestion!
Jorge Castro Maha - looks great - tastes like ass.

As soon as Glenn starts to ripen on the tree, it's at risk for dropping. As long as you check your tree once a day, not many fruit will fall.
When is the right time to buy Mango tree? and where can we buy them from? we live in Southern CA. Thank you.

Kensington pride is good mango tree?
How much space around the trunk should one allow for when planting?
Spacing depends on your target height and width for the tree (how much trimming you will do)
Anywhere from 10 to 25 ft apart depending on your goal❤
Which one is testy glenn or heidi mango?

Pick season of Gleen mango?
Late may - June

Nicholas Stroganoff A ripe Glenn is delicious.
It's not sweet? No way!
Can it grow in zone 7? I need these cuttings.
Keep in a pot and move inside during the winter ! Or build a greenhouse around it. Keep it pruned and shaped yearly. It's deff possible !❤
