When she squeezed the lime and dropped it...ooo...my mouth watered.
@@akankshapatwari4167yes but you dont have to leave the skin in it. I usually take it out.
@@akankshapatwari4167 A little bit, but you're supposed to crush not mash the ingredients :)
Honestly, I’m a bit jealous. You’re already used to eating foods that I’m unfamiliar with, so you get to try “American fare” and that’s the foreign flavors to you. And you have more opportunities to try it here in the states. And I wish I could love the foods you’re describing as much as you do, but I’m a bit of a wimp 😅 I still try new stuff
The interesting thing about your taste in food is although a lot of it is determined by what you ate growing up, a lot of it can be changed just by eating different things over and over. That’s why people often say you don’t truly know if you dislike something until you have tried it upwards of ten times. A first impression is never a fair test, because you usually aren’t prepared for the flavor if it doesn’t match your expectations it’ll process as shock and then as dislike even if you genuinely don’t really hate it.
The fact that you're interested in trying new things is already a brave step though lol give yourself a big hug for that! Not a lot of people have the courage to even let go of their prejudices against exotic asian food 😂
@@dantescribbless yeah most westerners would hate this because of the fish sauce smell.
The sauce is dark, that’s how I know I’ll like it. Nothing makes my mouth immediately salivate like the the thought of papaya salad.
I've had countless cravings for Thai papaya salad, which really goes to show how powerful this kind of salad is, I'd love to try this version to taste the little unique differences!! The more popular Western kind of salad can be really good but I agree, this is more enticing and flavourful to me, personally.
My mum comes from the Northern parts of Thailand and the food there is so flavorful and spicy! It's really different to the southern cuisine which is the one sold in the West. Both are super good though
I honestly prefer Lao style papaya over Thai style. I like the more savory take on it compared to the more sour style.
Omg!! Was she in next level chef?! She was one of my fav chefs!!!
I had this version of thai papaya salad but they made it with raw mangoes and it blew my mind. I've been craving it ever since. I don't know how authentic it was.. but that one and even the papaya salad are my absolute go tos in salads! 🥺
Thai/Lao salad. It's so good with combination of sweet, spicy, umami and sour flavours. We called it "Som Tam" here in Malaysia.
I enjoyed seeing your friend on that cooking show with Gordon!!
Yesss I love Lao papaya salad!! You can try mixing some vermicelli medium size noodles with it, or mix the pho noodles with it!!
@@Mygraciouslyno two different noodles. Vermicelli is white. Both noodles can be eat with the salad. You can also try making this salad with cucumbers, mangoes, carrots, cabbage. Any veggies or fruits. I like to experiment with different foods.
Papaya Salad is based in Thai - Lao - Cambodia - Myanmar. each have its own version of it. Thai didn’t put fish paste but it’s very sour-ish, Myanmar put boiled potato in it and have a been flour in it with fish paste. Northern Thai will put fish paste in it.
Thai papaya salad is wonderful 😋
I'm from Laos and I also make this with green apple,or green mango, cucumber, carrots, long green beans, all of these can be made the same way as the papaya and is just as delicious 😋
@@Mygraciouslyany tomatoes is fine. Even if you have any its still good.
Omgggg yessss this is literally the best!! And way more yummier then regular papaya salad
I’m Cambodian and my mom makes this all the time so good especially when it’s spicy 🌶
Looks like bagoong na isda with unriped mangoes, onion and tomato. Usually paired with grilled fish
SOM TAM is my #1 food of all time. This looks SOOOO AMAZING!
^Som Tum is the Thai word for it but it’s originally an ethnic Lao dish that spread to neighboring countries, including Malaysia. The full name for the dish is called “Tum Mak Houng.”
@@viexay what is the difference, i would love to learn. Thank you for your comment reply. I want to learn.
Your eating Lao food! I love Lao food and I’m Lao myself I’m so glad u enjoyed it and in Lao we call it tum ma hoong
My favorite version of papaya salad tbh. The darker the papaya salad, the better it is. Though I know it might be an acquired taste for some people because it is a bit fishy tasting and spicy. So you might wanna be use to these flavors before trying.
TUM MUK HOUNG LESGO 💕💕
You can also make multiple variants of this salad by swapping the papaya for rice noodles, glass noodles, instant noodles and sooooo much more. They're all just as good, though Tum Mee/Mi WaiWai (instant noodles) is my absolute favourite! So glad you got to try Tum Muk Houng! :)
So happy my culture’s food is being represented. Love your content!
African dishes, Asian dishes and South American dishes aren't all too different when you deep it.
Reminds me of "Gron Soup" we usually eat as a snack here in The Gambia
Papaya salad reminds me of my Lao asain family.
Tham mak huuung is my favorite!! That salad is addicting and makes you want more and more
Love Papaya salad..so umami!
This salad is bomb!!! We eat it as often as we can.
I suspect this is one of those dishes that gets more addictive as you eat it.
My mom makes this all the time. She from a little village in the North East of Thailand, very close to the boarder of Loas. There's always som tum in the fridge 🤤
I'm Lao and that look legit a decent papaya salad 👌🤤
These are so popular and common in Indonesia, I like to add in home made sambal and peanut sauce 🤤
the first time I went to Thailand, I fell in love with their papaya salad.....can you share your friends recipe please...☺️❤️
Love how Laos and Thais are shared most of the dishes
I LOVE papaya salad! I could it it all day. Homemade one taste the best!
My moms favorite whenever it’s Cambodian New Years there’s tons of stall at the temple and we always get this
That's my favorite way to eat. Papaya salad + sticky rice is a complete meal 😢😢😢 missing it right now.
Laos has best papaya salad!!
I’m so happy you tried lao papaya salad! It’s my favorite dish that my dad would make my siblings and I when we were younger
Banana heart/blossom salad is my absolute favorite. It's a very underrated Filipino dish
Looks delicious 🤤😋
With the sticky rice 🥺🥺🤤🤤
Ughhh she shredded that papaya perfect, to me that’s the perfect texture and size for shredding papaya when making the delicious spicy papaya salad! 🇱🇦 🙌🏼
You gotta try tea leaf salad, still my fav. I could eat that everyday.
Yum yes Lao Sauce
Let’s take the moment to appreciate Janelle for how much she uploads and how much effort she’s been putting into us!!❤️
My hands 🙌🏾 down favorite 🤩
I love LAO PAPAYA SALAD!!!
I prefer Lao style papaya salad. My rule of thumb for a delicious papaya salad is if it isn’t dark enough, I’m not eating it lol.
Can I pre slice and soak papaya overnight? I didn't have all the ingredients, so I was hoping that would work until I get to the store next day.
Look so delicious
I want that bowl!
In the PH in Mindanao where I live, we call it "Atsara" basically papaya salad, it's more like a side dish. It is great paired with Lechon Manok(Roasted Chicken) 😋
Hey Jeanelle, you should try African salad. We call it Abacha, it’s really nice
Papaya salad is THE BEST
Love Papaya salad with stick rice, barbq meats or chicken. Has to be made by my bf's sister or her daughter only. 🥰
More of like kinilaw na papaya in Visayas Region (Philippines) whereas it has unripe papaya, bagoong isda (unfiltered fish sauce), onion, tomato, ginger, vinegar, calamansi and red chili. Yummy! 🤤🤤🤤
In North-East India too we called this flavourful salad as 'singju'.....we use fermented fish paste instead of crab and fish sauce 😊❤️❤️
I tried this alot in thailand its so good! Although its spicy its really tasty and its a very good combination with roasted chicken and rice
I love Papaya salad and saw how easy it is to make. I had it when in Thailand this year, and absolutely loved it.
In Indonesia we call it Rujak
Oh my God that looks incredible
My husband is Hmong (his dad was born in Laos and his mom in Thailand) and I think their version of papaya salad is a mixture of both countries. It is amazing though and definitely the best salad I've ever had.
I make this almost everyday.
@@hibiscusflower5911you can make this with cucumbers, carrots, mangoes, any veggie or even fruit.
I lovveee that you love papaya salad ! It is a lil Stinky but those are the best foods
THE DARKER THE PAPAYA SALAD THE BETTER 😍🤤🤤🤤
That looks so good
i love Lao papaya salad
You're making my mouth savilate🤤🤤
I know it’s Thai food
You can also find it in Myanmar,my country
I’m Myanmar it’s called
သင်္ဘောသီးထောင်း(Tin bal thee thung)
It’s like green mango salad from the Philippines
Looks good to me!
Have you tried it with vermicelli noodles? Or the cucumber style? Both are super delicious 😋
Yummm looks great. Can’t wait to taste
I'm telling you one thing, south east Asian salad is BOMB. lao, Burmese, thai, Indonesian, Philippines, Malaysian, etc etc.
I wanna try this NOW!!
I love that salad,so delicious 😋
Ooo yummm i need to try this it looks good!!
In northeast India we eat a similar type of salad like this we call it singju
Delicious.. one of my favorites dish ❤❤❤
Jeanell you have a beautiful voice I like your videos because your voice is a pretty and happy sound. Have a lovely day
Got to have that combo with Vientiane grilled chicken and chase it with long beans. Now I miss home
Recipe...It looks really good!!
Omg I want to try it again, though I tried before during my childhood ❤️
You should try rojak
I fell in Love with "REAL" PAPAYA Salad in MN moved to Vegas n haven't found it since! There is a papaya salad but m accustomed to one like this one in the video n the craving never leaves Lol!!!!
Hence good flavor full ingredients are key to be a successful chef.
I love papaya 😍❤️
Dude, you just made me realise something. My mom always adds fish to vegetable curries. To cauliflower curry or spinach curry or drumstick curry...now ai get it why it tastes so good. It's just that umami!
My mom would use tamarind paste in her green papaya. It's sooo good
This is one of my top 3 foods!!!
Asian favorite
Looks so delicious!! But one question? Why squeeze the lime of you throw it in there? Wouldn't it get crushed all the same?
I reckon it's because you don't really want to be crushing the lime that hard else it'd be bitter. So you squeeze the juice first and just mix in the leftover lime for extra flavor and decoration.
Just had some …my favorite salad
The padaek hits 🤧🤧🤧
Omg....😜😜😜😜😜I love this!!!
Hey Jeanelle! As a filipino, I wanted to ask you. Have you tried, I dont know what it's called shredded green mangoes with bagoong and tomatoes? It's simple but very tasty! Happy cooking!
So delicious
