Jackson is, IMHO, simply, THE very best songwriter of our generation. I'd place him at least, equal to, if not greater than Dylan.
    A Master Craftsman.

Jackson Browne and James Taylor toured together a couple of years ago. It was an awesome concert. They are friends. They are both master song writers. This is one of my favorite Jackson Browne songs. Slowly realizing you are breaking up. Who hasn’t been there?

Jackson Browne is an old soul. He has to be to have written such profound lyrics at such an early age. I bought this album when it first came out and played it to death. There isn’t a bad song on it. My favorite is Farther On.😊

This album is on my Top 10 Desert Island List. No contemporary male singer/songwriter has dealt so honestly and sincerely with the lyrical genius of the vulnerability of romantic idealism and the pain of adjustment from youthful dreams to adult survival as Browne does on this album. Late for the Sky, For A Dancer, Fountain of Sorrow, Father On, The Road and The Sky, and Before The Deluge are beyond
beautiful. This Album is his Masterpiece. You owe it to yourself to listen to every song on this album. Between this and The
Pretender Album Jackson Browne became an American Songwriter Legend. Thank you for playing songs from this album and
for your intelligent, insightful, heartfelt commentary. You're the best on UA-cam - not even close.

Martin Scorsese used this song brilliantly in "Taxi Driver", when Travis Bickle (De Niro) is the apex of his alienation from the world. After seeing it in 1976, I went out the next day and found the album. I still think it's Jackson Browne's best.

Sure you haven't heard Jackson until you've heard 3 pieces: For a Dancer, Before the Deluge, and Anything Can Happen. None of them really get a lot of mention, but give him 15 minutes to hear those 3 out and you'll know more about life than you ever thought you wanted to know.

My favorite Jackson Browne song is Sky Blue And Black and the thing I love about his music is how it touches on people just growing apart, and sometimes nobody is to blame, it just happens and it doesn't mean the love never happened. The most heartbreaking songs for me are the songs where you still love the person, and you'll always love the person, but for some reason it's just become impossible. There's no way to overcome that or pretend that the love isn't lost, and it's tragic and beautiful in equal measure.

James Taylor and Jackson probably met or knew each other when they lived in Laurel Canyon during it’s later heydays in the early 70’s. JB is a little younger than most of the big stars who lived there ( like Crosby, Stills, Nash, Young, Linda Ronstadt, Joni Mitchell, etc) and they said he was part of the 2nd wave of great musicians who shocked them when they arrived with their already superior abilities (including the future Eagles’ members). I highly recommend checking out the history of that place & time such as the doc “The Legends of Laurel Canyon”.

Jackson said that this song was written about relationships that have come to an end but both people keep hanging on, hoping to find something, some common ground to cling to. The thoughts of how nothing was ever quite right, that there were unrealistic expectations that never could be, but hope kept them holding on, until it was just too late to hope anymore. This song really rustles through the cobwebs of the place where we seal away all the painful memories that we have tried so hard to forget. I love Jackson Browne. This whole album is exceptional, you would love it. I think that she thought he was someone he wasn't, not somebody she hoped to change him into. Perhaps his celebrity had blinded her to who the real man was and when she came to the realization that he was just a man, a human, not someone with super powers, everything collapsed for her and the person she fell in love with ended up being the myth, but not the man. I think this is often the plight of the superstars. Thank you for your great and emotional reaction.

Been there and done that, twice…..but the third time has been the charm. Extremely fortunate to have found a beautiful soul that allowed us to grow together and discover who “we” are. When you are younger, very few really who they are, let alone, who the other person is. If either one decides to continue as “me”………there can never be a “we”. 😊

Try reacting to Dan’sCover of Tell Me to My Face, Since You’ve Asked, A-Cry In The Forest , or Lonely in Love. Another great one by Dan is called The Reach! You are so right about relationships especially that women tend to think they can change or form you into what they want you to be. I’ve been there!

Yes, Jackson and James Taylor have a bit of a history together. They both are singer/songwriters from the same era and they both were involved in the Musicians United for Safe Energy (MUSE) concerts back in 1976.
I was at a concert of Jackson's once, and someone yelled out "play a happy song!" which stumped and amused Jackson to no end! He is known for songs that lay people, relationships, and politics open to the bone. He does have some "happy songs" but the mainstay are skillful probings into how life is, and that can be deep and painful and sad.

They also have toured together for the past couple years. And not only did they both date Joni at nearly the same time, but Joni has written songs about each of them. Much of the For the Roses album centers around James, and Joni's relationship with Jackson is prominent on Court and Spark.

No it's not too early! I remember when this album first came out I listened to the whole album over and over. I think he is a musical genius who has a way of perfectly expressing in his lyrics the themes, complications, and questions that we all face in our relationships. It is great you dive into the lyrics which have a heavy message but we all can relate. You need to listen to the next song of the album, "Fountain of Sorrow", I think the lyrics will blow you away as well as his music. Jackson Browne is just one of top lyricists and composers out there.

This whole album is a masterpiece. The songs all speak to you on a very personal level that we can all in some way relate to. My personal favorite is Farther On which is more upbeat and inspirational but I love every single one of them. Notice the last line in Late For The Sky where he says 'in the bed where we both lie'. The meaning is not only in the bed where they lie next to each other but also where they lie TO each other. Great review.

Jackson and James Taylor are top 10 singer/songwriters (IMO) and both had relationships with Joni Mitchell. Other than that, they are distinct songwriters. Jackson wrote deeper lyrics than those of James, particularly early in Jackson's career.
Some of the songs on this album may be about Jackson's breakup with Joni Mitchell, particularly Fountain of Sorrow. This song might also be about his relationship with Joni.
In any event, this was Jackson's 3rd album and his masterpiece according to many including Bruce Springsteen. But I love his first 2 albums also. You can't go wrong with any of Jackson's first 5 albums.
The great guitar work is by David Lindley
Lastly, this song was featured in the movie, Taxi Driver, a great movie starring Robert DeNiro

As far as Hot Sauces from Louisiana go, I have a preference for the one from Avery island, La., the Original, TABASCO. Louisiana Brand is very tasty, i just have a soft spot for the slightly spicier, more in your face flavor of the McIlhenny Family product. But to each his own, tastes vary. BTW, Jackson Browne kills it on this tune, an emotionally tough one.

The way I've always read that "late for the sky" line is that they've both been on autopilot, drifting along together, trapped in the relationship out of habit. They should have spread their wings and taken flight long ago. They're both "late for the sky" but neither has had the courage to go.

Sometimes it takes the anger to break it off because neither person has a definite point of contention to really say it should be over, but this last bit of destruction is what does make the break. I don't think in some cases you can really move on until you know it is definitely over. I think it is much worse to give glimmers of hope that drag stuff on longer than it should be... At least that's my take...
