    Jeff, Quite a diverse & eclectic selection. A number of artists I'm not familiar with, but intend to look into, thanks for sharing.

    Thanks for sharing your favourites with us all. You have opened my ears to some new music (for me) that I will enjoy tracking down the ones I don’t know. Seeing these posts reminded me of going to the record store with my paper round money as a kid and searching through the racks for something new. Loved it.

      One of the best things about the streaming revolution is that we can sample music from pretty much any album ever made. Even albums by the most independent bands can be streamed somewhere. But let me say that many of these 50 albums I talk about here are albums that I grew up with and therefore have very personal subjective attachments to. I do not necessarily "recommend" them to anyone. Haha!

    So enjoyed watching this series. I understand how you made the selections and the surprises were fun

    Hey again Jeff, Watched your whole series and enjoyed it all. Was wondering where Terje was going to land thru all this. 🙂That's an album that I haven't played in too long. I have to thank you for thr Scott Walker turn-on as well.
    Yes too, the original joy we had for decades of just pure listening for enjoying without the need to express it before the camera. Feeling that more in recent years as well. Thanks as always for these. -Carm

      Carm, I find that the first albums I bought for each artist are often the favorites, even after all these many years. I am sure there are things to be inferred from this, but I am too lazy and/or ignorant w/r/to sociological/psychological phenomena to even begin to explain it. Ha!

    Loved this series of videos, Jeff. I find your knowledge of, and enthusiasm for, all sorts of music inspiring.....even if I can't connect with some of your choices 😂!

      I'd be amazed if any other human on earth liked exactly the same odd range of crap that I love. Haha!

    Jeff, thoroughly enjoyed this series - took notes, gonna check some of them out. Stunned that Jimmy Webb didn't make your "Best Friends" section as I know you're a huge fan, but having him in the "almost" section made sense also...looking forward to whatever you may come up with in the future...lots of interesting selections, and naturally, you didn't disappoint me - I knew you'd have something on the top 50 by The Partridge Family, although I probably would have chosen "Up To Date" over the debut - LOVE that album...:-) Take care, my friend, great to see you back!

      Thanks, TC. Jimmy’s vocal style is somewhat mood-dependent listening for me. But in my 200-CD list, there are 5-6 Jimmy (or Jimmy-produced) CDs.

    Jeff....I posted too quickly on a previous video about Terje Rypdal!! I agree that the trio with Jack DeJohnette and Miroslav Vitous is great. My favourite TR album, atm, is his last one....Conspiracy....I remember watching your review of it.

    • @CalicoSilver
      @CalicoSilver  Місяць тому

      I find that as I get older I get less resonant with the early Miles-influenced Terje stuff, and I find that I can only handle a track or two of Palle Mikkelborg's trumpet playing......I still love the fun and power-jazz-trio precision of The Chasers.....and I still enjoy Terje's "classical" works.....but I find that my favorite period of his output for me these days is his trio with DeJohnette and Vitous, as well as that beautiful duo with David Darling "Eos", and also his work as a sideman on other ECM artists' albums like "Three Day Moon", "Nordic Quartet", "Satu", "The Hapless Child", etc.. And of course his own MikeOldfield-like do-it-all-yourself beautiful album "After the Rain" (always a fave since I first bought it). But that opening track on "To Be Continued", "Maya", just melts me....and I love the other tracks contributed by the other guys (DeJohnette and Vitous). As for Terje's later albums (post-"Skywards"), I find that I very rarely listen to them any more....even "Conspiracy" (sorry).

    Naah you just love TMR because ... :)
    I believe you Jeff, more than you believe!
    So many bands I haven't even heard of! I would have expected some more traditional names, like Simon & Garfunkel or Cream. They say the universe is finite but when exploring music, that's hard to believe.

    OK, one final comment....no Miles?!! Although I love his 70s jazz rock stuff best, I would definitely put Kind of Blue on my top 50 list....a clichéd choice, maybe, but every time I listen to it, it blows my mind!

    • @CalicoSilver
      @CalicoSilver  Місяць тому

      Nope, sorry (I addressed this in a response to one of your earlier comments). Weird as it may sound, I have never resonated one iota with Miles Davis' music, even while loving the music of those artists who were very influenced by Miles (Rypdal, McLaughlin, et al.). Just one of those mysterious things that don't make sense.....sorta like my lack of interest in Hendrix or Zappa. It is what is is.
