If you've got old machines, those pipe plug sockets are definitely worth keeping in the workshop.
Hi Joey, congratulations on being out of the hiller disc poorhouse.. thanks for sharing. Have a good day. 😎😎 👍
Thanks Tommy
Yep to anti seize. I’ve galled a couple in my decades. Good stuff to have on hand.
Those disks look like new now should get the job done
Yes sir they did there job good
I’ve got that same type of torque wrench. Just pull til your elbow clicks 🤣
My previous comment was intended as a response a viewer post. Sorry it got misdirected. It’s good to see you “young guys” have a temporary brain fade from time to time. A good recovery. Thanks for sharing the experience of the rebuild. I too save all manner of used parts for that “just in case” situation. Sometimes it takes me longer to find what I have on hand than to just go buy another. Of course distance and cost are a factor. I always say the trash gets picked up weekly.
Thanks Stan
Great video Joey! I've had to change the bearing on my fertilizer side hilling disk and let me tell you that was really smart to change to stainless steel bolts! I done the same thing to mine because the fertilizer was eating up the original bolts that weren't stainless steel. Also over time the rounded bolt heads will quit catching when you take the nuts off on the other side so i went with regular bolt heads on my hilling side so i can put a wrench on it. My uncle has a mechanic shop where he has a press which makes it easier to press out old ones and press in new ones. Can't wait to see the new hillers in action. God bless!
Hey Kyle I’m excited for y’all to see it. It worked wonderfully.
Thanks for the video. My disk are a little loose also and if I decide to fix them I will have your video to refer to. All the best from Greensboro NC.
Sure thing Gurney let me know if I can help.
Last year I hunted for that 3/8 drive set to fit that plug. No luck anywhere. Ended up taking an Allen wrench and the bench grinder and grinding down two sides to make something that fit. I inherited the 140 and who knows how long it had been since that rear end oil was last changed! Got the job done but I just went to Amazon and ordered that kit. Thanks for the tip! Please keep'em coming if you have anymore.
You’re very welcome Tom. I look forward to checking mine more now lol.
Excellent video Joey. I'm certain those disks were like the ones that came with Grandpa's 55 Cub.
Great job. I have a lathe so I would have made a shim to fit the spool type bearing, or checked to see if I could modify it to take a bearing.
That would have worked .
Great work explaining what & why your working on the disc , you do enjoy the equipment, stay safe .
Thanks Robert
Another great video Joey! I completely understand about hurting your wrists. I do the same thing when I drill into metal. I'm 3 years older than you and we can't do everything that we usetacould but we still get it done!
Hey Greg
Yes sir we find another way.
That was my thought! Kerosene!
Red solvent. Out of the pump at the “Quickee Mart” would be my guess. Lol. Gotta use what is available and handy!
Good old ethanol free unleaded.
Good job on the disc. I've got some that need the same thing.
Thanks Johnny
Nice job. That click type torque wrench is nice, used one for years. I have 3or 4 sets of those to rebuild, actually a whole pile of implements to rebuild plus the tractors. Now I know the difference in different hiller disc. You did a fine job..
Thank You sir.
Good video Joey. Thanks for sharing. I didn't have any when I got my 140 and bought a set from Agri Supply. They work good but I hate they were made in China. You'll be able to lay out rows now. Take care.
Thanks Bart. They worked great today.
Good video Joey. Appreciate you taking the time make these videos. You do a good job explaining things. Look forward to the hilling videos. Take care buddy👍
Thanks Kevin
Got them filmed just need to get them out.
Changed mine about 1970. Need it again but couldn’t remember exactly how I did it. Needed this vid. Thanks.
Abbey you welome
Good job Joey! I need to do that to mine ( 1 is like yours and the other one is tight ) I also need to get a couple of discs for my old pull-type Oliver sectional harrow. That will give me an excuse to go to Agri-Supply, lol! I thought I was the only one with bad wrists/weak hands and couldn't remember anything!
Thanks Bobby. As much as I’m in Raleigh I need to go by there myself.
4 16" king style hillers cost $240 shipped for agrisupply. I ordered 4 last month. They are not greasable. I had zero luck finding used ones around here.
Pretty pricey for sure.
There was a company long ago named Beasley. Many of the old timers I used to know called hilling disk Beasley. They would convert them from mule drawn to tractor use . But idk if they made them single disc .
I was glad to finally have a good set of them.
Good job on the rebuild, but might consider getting your torque wrench re-calibrated! LOL click click
Gotta see a Dr to recalibrate. 😂
I figured I couldn’t do to much damage with that skinny wrench.
Joey could you put in the comment section what you ordered from Agri Supply to refurbish your disk. I’m sure mine need it as well.
I’ll text it to you. Thanks Wave.
@@Jtwes thanks
I couldn't tell if there was a grease fitting anywhere on that to Grease the bearing I couldn't see one my question is I dealt with stainless steal all my life if you gall the threads on stainless steel bolts you'll never get it off that's why anti-seize is used but for some reason farmers don't use anti-seize I never understood that one we used it in the Papermill religiously we used it by the gallon containers and I use it on my boat today a very expensive nickel grade of anti-seize I guess you could buy the cheaper grade of copper which would be a marine quality
I try to use it on my bigger bolts like in my drop down housing. Good thought though.
Joey if you come near or to Goldsboro NC I will donate a 16 inch disk . Well it’s close to 16 got some age on it .
Might have to do that one day. Thanks Bart
Another great video- especially determining whether he had fun on his honeymoon! Can you share the source of your middle buster bars? I know one of your linked suppliers has a reproduction with the "new style," but I'm not sure I've seen the forged/"bent" style for sale. Thanks from still snowy Vermont!
Hey Russell I do believe Brandon at Burch store has the old style also. My source was my buddy Roger had an extra one.
@@Jtwes Michael Nardo in Jackson Springs has both styles - Diamond and Square
