‘The Dish’ is one of my favourite films and the real star of which has to be ‘The Dish’ itself. The parabola is a beautiful shape 📡
    Best wishes from Oxfordshire 🇬🇧❤️🇦🇺

What a brilliant structure the dish is.It is hard to believe it beam live footage of man walking on the moon all around the world.

Amazing work by Bolton and his team; such bravery and dedication as Parkes, with a massive sail area, is hit by 100km winds and despite exceeding the buildings design parameters, on a day in 1969, kept transmitting for over five hours.
I remember seeing these pictures; the streets in central Scotland were deserted, no mention of the massive technical effort to beam these images worldwide and while "The Dish" might not be completely accurate, it's (yet) another excellent movie from Australia; great soundtrack and a well crafted comedy... Can you keep a secret? ... Well, no I can't... okay I'll tell you anyway!?
It seems cricket wasn't played on "The Dish" before the movie was made; I'm guessing it was the first thing they did, after it.
Seems Parkes is (according to ABC) the most successful scientific instrument in Australia, having discovered most of the pulsars currently known; this looks like a great tour of a most interesting facility and thanks for posting it.

IT MOVED, the dish i mean. John gave a very informative tour of the telescope, very interesting. You must have been over the moon [pardon the pun] to have been taken in and around the dish. Thoroughly enjoyed watching this, thank's for posting mate.

This is a very very good video. I am suprised they gave you such free access. A lot of places like that act as if they are doing classified work and will not let you in. Keep it up. Mike Malloy , Corpus Christi, Texas, USA.

Thank you for tour. We went there on the weekend and it was amazing! Couldn't get a tour inside the actual dish, but spent a lot of time reading and playing with puzzles and I recommend 3D cinema! Also read facts about Apollo 11 broadcast. The movie is a fiction :)

Thanks Tim, yes that's exactly it - I had asked in advance if I could film someone to chat about the Apollo 11 mission, and after that chat with John he had some spare time and asked if I'd like a closer look. I was blown away, everyone was super friendly and really just wanted to share the awesome facilities they have there. It was a really great experience. Thanks as always for your support, Stef 👍

They only open it up to the public about once a decade. In fact, it's open again to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the moon landing. Check it out if you're in the area (20th-21st July 2019). I live in Parkes, so I'll definitely be out there again. :)

Honeysuckle Creek's dish in Canberra got the first footage of Neil Armstrong's first steps on the moon.
Canberra's Deep Space Com Complex is 1 of 3 in NASA DSN. Parkes only plays a small supporting role now.
