    I'm a 78 year old male, played, attended, watched all sports all my life - WNBA wasn't even in the vocabulary - now because of MS Clark I know the names of all the players on Indiana Fever, and a substantial number of Player names on other teams - certainly didn't know you, but here I am subscriber to your channel - excellent discorse on every episode - cheers

      I think the W management is examining how to ease out whackers and assaulters such as Carter, Reese, Griner, Diggins, Magbegor, DeShields, Young, and enabler Witherspoon. It’s also looking into the amateur/intern referees.

    I'm not a US citizen. I live in the Republic of Panama. Never ever had I watched, much less followed women's basketball. Somehow, CC entered my UA-cam radar and now I'm hooked on the Fever, CC, LH, Mitchell, Boston, and the rest of the squad. I am totally enjoying their wins and their record-busting playing. That's clarkonomics in a nutshell.

    A little more on the CC effect, last year they had a home attendance of 81,336 and at an average of $60 per ticket that is $4,880,160 total (avg) this year their home attendance was 340,715 at $174 per ticket (avg) that is $59,284,410 for a difference of $54,404,250. That is a large increase and is based off of CC and isn't even figuring in ad revenue and merch sales. 😳

    Imagine going from 81,000 in attendance in Indiana one year and then 623,000 the next. Also realize that those tickets in 2024, in high demand, were also likely far more expensive than those sold in 2023. Then, consider all those extra fans buying merch and purchasing at concessions each game. It's unbelievable. A franchise the owner once described as a tax write-off is now a money-making machine. If you consider how much money Fever ownership is making on the team this year, keep in mind that the total player payroll for the year is only 1.4 million. Clark-enomics, indeed.

    Caitlin Clark is the MVP to me because she brought a lot of us into the league, gave us aspirations, and helped her team to the playoffs, which they haven't been since 2016, and she broke WNBA records in her rookie year.

    Rachel, please keep your analytical videos going. I enjoy them and your candid and honest perspective. I agree with you regarding Kate Martin and her minutes. We can all speculate why her minutes have severely diminished during the second half of the season. Regardless of the reason, I humbly think she should be getting substantial playing time to continue to hone her already great talent and skills. Maybe, trade her to the Indiana Fever.

  • @TheFilthyAtheist
    @TheFilthyAtheist Місяць тому +11

    But what happens if Caitlin Clark decides she would rather play in Europe where she'll make more money and get more appreciation? Or if one of these fools injures her and she's out for the season? That growth will wither away and the people that have been clamoring for more money and more recognition will then have neither. Yet they cannot seem to comprehend that. I'd love to see what happens this is a truly bizarre situation.

    Hi Rachel, you offer the most balanced and educated reporting I have seen yet in the world of sports, and I'm an OG who remembers ABC's "Wide World of Sports", "The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat" as the ski jumper takes a terrible fall off the side of the ramp. You seem to be able to cover any sport with the same excellence, accuracy, and professionalism and you're not reading from a script or teleprompter, unless of course you are reading stats or quoting a source. I have especially liked your coverage of the WNBA, and being a new fan-boy I appreciate your takes immensely. Maybe Geno and Sheryl could take some hints from you on how to evaluate talent honestly.

    CC has brought a positive effect on this league more than any other player in history. she has brought more people in attendance to the games more viewers on the TV. The WNBA has a small window of opportunity to take advantage of the Caitlin Clark effect. Today's sports fan has a very short attention span, especially for something new. If there aren't drastic top to bottom improvements, from league administration, to ownership, management, coaching, officiating, and player behavior on and off the court, then the ever-expanding bubble they're in is going to burst.

    I live in the Iowa city area and attend Iowa Hawkeye sorting events. I have loved seeing the growth of the Hawkeye women and have loved seeing a number of them get the opportunity to play at the professional level. We have been so lucky to have coaches through the years that foster very close knit family like relationships in their players. Experiencing Clark, Gustafson, and Martin playing for the Fever and Aces has been a fun ride, but I hope that more of the wnba players will eventually recognize the incredible benefits Clark has brought to the league and stop trying to diminish her with their hateful rhetoric and physical play which sometimes seems directed at targeting to end her career with injury. I am pleased that most of her teammates have grown to value how her basketball IQ enhances their play. Thank you for you valuable analysis of games and beyond! Jedn Bordón

    It is such a breat of fresh air to listen your views. There is so much vitriol on other programs that I don't want to tune in; plus there is so much melodrama, so much yeliing. Anyways, you are appreciated.

    They need to be careful about “growing" too quickly. Take baby steps and learn from each step. Take steps now, to extricate the league from political and social agendas. The game needs to be cleaned up from all the entitled lesbian thuggery. You are smart Rachel, Good video.

    MVP- Most Valuable Player… causes pause for cyphering. Value as in TV ratings. Value as in new levels of ticket sales. Value in elevating an entire sports league. Value as in elevating a bottom feeder team to play off contenders. Value as in setting/breaking rookie AND league records. To me the VALUE to the entire league make the MVP a clear choice!!!

    Just discovered your channel a few days ago and am really enjoying it. Thinking back over my lifetime as a serious sports fan (I’m 73 so that’s a very long time) , I cannot think of a single player in a team sport that has had this type of impact on an entire league like CC has. I myself have discovered all the other great players in the W but I likely would not have if not for Caitlin. I’ve been blown away by all the talent to players in the W. So the CC effect and Clarkonomics are very real. And we’re just getting started!

    I think the WNBA needs to make a profit before even thinking about expanding. They need a new commissioner who will replace a number of bad referees and get the players under control. The planned expansion will only complicate matters. The WNBA might play in prime-time but they are not ready for it.

    Swoopes the racist says she’s not dominant though & then the supposed top WNBA analyst Monica Mcnutt defends Swoopes and says people shouldn’t criticize her. The media is really turning me off from this league

      @ddespair Місяць тому

      What has she said that is racist?

    • @Tdawgg23
      @Tdawgg23 Місяць тому

      @@ddespair her comments are clearly backed by her racial bias , she’s upset that a white girl is getting more spotlight and recognition than she did. She tries to discredit Clark’s talent in every way and gets proven wrong every time, she blatantly made up lies about Clark saying she was 25 years old in college and taking 40 shots a game when neither of those are true. She only has harsh criticism towards and refuses to praise Clark but doesn’t do that with other rookies like Reese or Rickea Jackson. It may not be 100% of the reason she doesn’t like Clark but to say it’s not a factor would be extremely ignorant.

    • @ddespair
      @ddespair Місяць тому

      @@Tdawgg23well she might be a bit upset that no one gave the wnba a chance until a white girl showed up. She was a pioneer in the sport. Anyways, other black stars from her era like Lisa Leslie have said very positive things about Caitlin. I can do a search for Caitlin Clark and all I get is this white vs black thing. I guess white people now finally can see what black people went through when they couldn’t even play sports with white people. White people are seeing one black person supposed verbally attacking a white person and you’re up in arms with hundreds of videos about it. Now I see what black people went through ten fold. This isn’t racism you’re sweeping. You don’t know what racism really is. Racism is not being able to go the same school, or have the same rights or be lynched in the south. So maybe there’s a bias and a Jealousy on swoopes’ part, but don’t use a word like racism for a basketball game.

    All these awesomeness coming out of Clarkonomics are only legit while Caitlin's in the league and playing, but they keep whacking her..one of these days, one of those hard whacks going to injure her and maybe even force her out of the league. And then they'll be back to square one again, maybe even worse and sad than before. Commissioner should do something to protect her, but she's as clueless and gutless as the rest of them. Ah, well//
