From what I can see of the board, the clear winner is going to be Yellow SIgn. I mean, the whole point of that faction is to fly below the radar of every other faction, biding their time while all of their enemies destroy each other. Not being on the board at all is the ULTIMATE manifestation of flying below the radar. Clearly, this setup is playing to the greatest strength of Yellow Sign.
I can see it now. Next turn, as Black Goat picks up a bunch of units to move, they notice a Desecration token that wasn't there before. "What the heck is this?" the player mutters to himself, then shakes his head and moves on. Later, Great Cthulhu devours a Flying Polyp, revealing another Desecration token underneath that figure, scratching his head in confusion at how that got on the board. Crawling Chaos uses The Thousand Forms and rolls a 6. The other two factions spend a full minute arguing how much Yellow Sign should give up, resulting in a big power boost to blue. Fisticuffs break out, and in the ensuing chaos, Yellow Sign seals the victory.
Should this be chosen, I'd really like the Azathoth faction and either the Ramsay Campbell or Dreamlands packs. Love your CW series, and can't wait for more.
P.S. Have YOU seen the Yellow Sign?

I really love this one, next time I play, if no one plays Yellow Sign, I'm going to start using sleight of hand to slip desecration tokens out on the board. If I can get 4 out with no one noticing, I'm going to try to proclaim Yellow Sign as victor

After a game i can tell that the bloated woman can pull up some nasty tricks with her spellbooks. We were playing with the masks, along with neutral spellbooks and cthulhu grabbed "the stars are right" spellbook (when you cash in your elder signs during the doom phase you also get the amount in power). So cthulhu had 5 ES, gather power phase, he picks up another 4, perform a ritual of annihilation, gains another one and cash in all of his elder signs. He got 16 power. And he won. That was very anti climatic, as we (me as sleeper and black goat) have been trying to slow down opener. Cthulhu claimed that he took the bloated woman to deny opener of a bigger snowball. But it was just a trick, a nasty trick.

People like us get sucked into the game trying to win a match of Cthulhu Wars (more popularity for the great game maker himself), and we end up flocking to your channel in droves, seeking the cursed knowledge of how to destroy our friends at Lovecraftian Faction Risk.

Ok, apologies for the long post, but a prompt like this is going to need some detail to properly answer. That, and I just love discussing the game.
That said, while I don’t think I’ll be doing a thorough play-by-play of the turns and movements, I’ll list each faction and describe their likelihood of winning based on as many significant factors as I can see. But first, a few general observations:
    - Seems like BG controls the bloated woman and CC controls The Haunter of the Dark.
    - Panning shot at 3:58 ish puts the Pharaoh in the middle ocean, and with a few units from every faction here it’s really difficult to determine who he is controlled by. Since it seems like the other two factions are trying to force BG off that middle gate, I’ll say that GC has control of the pharaoh, just so each faction has one.
    - Seems like they’ve all basically completed their spellbooks (from what I can see the only obviously missing book is the one on Cthulhu’s card that he gets at the end of a turn when he has the five other books completed).
    - Gate control seems to be three for CC, 2 for BG (trying to keep middle ocean) and 2 for GC
    - The empty gate in the lower-middle ocean area is empty, I would put GC and BG as the two most likely candidates for that fight given their starting locations. Given that BG is a unit heavy faction and given their current number of units, I’d suggest that the Goat took some losses.
    - This gate north of Cthulhu’s starting location (controlled by the one lone CC cultist) was also probably once Cthulhu’s, to help him reach the required number of ocean gates in the early game. Seems like he’s been hit from both sides, or maybe CC just got sneaky while Cthulhu was fighting over that lower-middle gate.
Black Goat (least likely to win)
    - Bloated woman won’t be doing much with BG with her weak combat, in a faction of units with low combat values. Keeping her at home with Shubby for defence is probably her safest use at the moment.
    - Yes, I see you, lone ghoul trying to take CC’s gate in the corner there. While I don’t know whose turn it is, it would be so easy for Nyarlathotep to respond to that without risk, to one ghoul I have to assume he’ll have a chance to defend that gate as far as turn order goes. Or maybe Cthulhu will dive in and take it from both of them. Either way, that ghoul’s not getting the meal he thinks he is.
    - BG is sandwiched between two other factions that will be seeking combat. With too many units to cheaply relocate and not much combat potential at the moment...good luck, Shubby.
    Cthulhu (A close second):
    - Seems to have his two gates well enough defended for now.
    - IMPORTANT: at first I thought Cthulhu was in the faction’s pool, along with most of his units, putting him arguably in last place. But, given that no other faction pools are visible in the shot, I’m guessing that Cthulhu with a shoggoth and starspawn are sitting on the faction card because they’re all submerged and ready to strike.
    - The above observation gives Cthulhu a lot of versatility and combat potential, a threat which I don’t believe Shubby can answer, or recover from. It will likely come down to a fight between that submerged force and Nyarlathotep and his army.
    - Assuming he has a frog and the Pharaoh in the middle, this seems like a strong place to start, before making his way over to Nyarlathotep.
    Crawling Chaos (winner winner):
    - Well, he already has the most gates, even if by a small margin.
    - Seems to have a healthy number of scapegoats at starting location to keep Nyarlathotep safe.
    - The cheaper units of CC (namely Nightgaunts and Polyps) are great at not only flying around to defend gates from smaller threats, but would remove Cthulhu’s scapegoats from the fight. Considering how much each unit means to Cthulhu’s overall combat strength, that’s going to hurt.
    - On the topic of dealing with Cthulhu pre-combat: if CC has the Haunter’s spellbook, it’s just another chance to weaken Cthulhu’s forces and get Nyarlathotep to land a blow on Cthulhu.
    - The Haunter himself (as well as Nyarlathotep) are going to have so many combat dice, assuming we’re running with the idea that everyone’s spellbooks are essentially complete.
    - This is all explaining how CC would probably beat GC in a direct confrontation. However, if Cthulhu tried to take gates without confronting Nyarlathotep, it might make a difference.
Ultimately, I feel like the completion of all players spellbooks (or very near completion) puts Nyarlathotep and Haunter in charge of combat. If Nyarlathotep can summon a few weaker units, all the better to keep those two big players safe. While I’m not saying Cthulhu couldn’t win, it’d take some serious submerge abuse to get the job done.
*phew* Ok, that’s as serious an answer I can give without doing a play-by-play. Without knowing current power, doom, turn order, or whose turn it is currently, I feel like a play-by-play would be too difficult to do accurately anyway.
Hope it makes some kind of sense, if I’ve worded anything in a confusing or unclear way (entirely likely) just let me know.
Lastly, as for what my expansion preferences would be if I actually won something: my collection is already coming along nicely, but the stuff I still need is difficult to get a hold of, so if they’re not up for grabs then don’t stress, I’m sure there will be other deserving entries who would appreciate a Cthulhu Christmas surprise. I’m still on the hunt for Independent GOO packs 1-3, and the Primevil and Yuggoth Maps.

Okay, so I basically took out the game and put the figures the way they were in the video... and played the game alone for 2 hours. 😅😅 The following TLDR is a description of 2 turns action by action. And they are 2 epic turns of Cthulhu wars classics. If someone doesn't want to read through, you could swipe to bottom to see who will win . I have drawn every Elder sign from the bag, and have rolled almost all dice (manipulated some of the results though to make it more interesting). So enjoy this Cthulhu wars madness. 😁
Judging from the position of the figures on the map, I would say that it is the end of turn 3. It is a solid midgame now. Black Goat (BG) has started the game pretty well. But she was grounded to an extent by her enemies. She controls the Loyalty cards of both the Shadow Pharaoh and the Bloated Woman. Crawling Chaos (CC) controls the Haunter of the Dark and has given his opponents 1 Elder Sign (ES) each. Great Cthulhu (GC) has taken the Loyalty card of the Dark Demon on his first turn and during the 3rd Doom Phase he is the last faction on the Doom track with 5 Doom Points (has a total of 4 ES). CC has 8 Doom points and BG leads with 12 Doom Points (total 4 ES). Only BG has performed a Ritual of Annihilation so far.
CC is the first player with 13 Power (GC has 12 Power, while BG has only 8, but she has drawn 2 ES during Gather Power from the Spellbook of the Bloated Woman). The turn sequence goes towards BG.
    Turn 4
CC summons a Hunting Horror in North Pacific, securing the gate from the Ghoul (down to 10 Power).
BG has no choice but to recruit her Dark Demon in the Indian Ocean for 1 Power (down to 7).
GC recruits a Cultist in Antarctica (down to 11).
Back to CC, he summons his second Hunting Horror in Asia (down to 7).
Next BG moves the Shadow Pharaoh to Europe (down to 6) and will take control of the gate in the North Atlantic with the Dark Young. The gate in Europe is Abandoned due to Pharaoh's ability.
GC recruits his last cultist in Antarctica (down to 10).
CC moves the Haunter of the Dark to Europe (down to 6) and immediately declares battle against the Pharaoh (down to 5). He uses The Shining Trapezohedron pre-battle (the result is 4), so the he decides to use Seek and Destroy as well to transport the Hunting Horror from Asia to Europe. CC with total of 10 dice (Haunter has 6 + 1 from the Bloated Woman Spellbook) rolls 3 Kills and 1 Pain. BG on the other hand rolls exactly 1 Kill, so the Haunter is as dead as the Pharaoh. Finally CC takes control over the gate in Europe.
Next BG recruits a cultist in Africa (down to 5).
GC moves a cultist and a Deep One from his starting Area to the South Atlantic and occupies the gate (down to 8).
CC decides to stall a little and summons a Nightgaunt in Asia (down to 4).
BG is aware that she has to protect her gates a lot so she summons 2 Fungi with her Fertility Cult ability. 1 emerges in the North Atlantic and the other in the Indian Ocean (down to 3).
GC sees what BG is trying to do, so he spends 0 to emerge with a Starspawn and a Shoggoth into Africa and immediately declares battle (down to 7).
As a turn player he uses Devour and BG eliminates a cultist. From a total of 11 dice he rolls 5 Kills and 3 Pains. BG rolls 14 dice with result of 4 Kills ans 3 Pains, killing every Unit of GC. BG kills her 3 remaining cultist, the Fungi and the Bloated Woman. Madness kicks in and CC Pains Shub-Niggurath to Asia.
As ruthless as CC can be, he declares battle to BG (down to 3).
CC uses Seek and Destroy pre-battle to fly with Hunting Horror from Europe to Asia. Then he uses Abduct to sacrifice a Nightgaunt and eliminate BG's Ghoul in the Area.
CC rolls total 14 and the result is 2 Kills and 2 Pains. With 5 dice the lonely Shub-Niggurath rolls a single Kill. Shub-Niggurath is killed and CC kills 1 cultist. Post-battle CC uses the Harbinger to draw 2 ES.
The devasted BG recruits a cultist in the Indian Ocean (down to 2).
GC Awakens Cthulhu and draws an ES (down to 3).
CC seizes the opportunity and uses the Thousand Forms. He rolls 3. Nobody wants to pay the 3 Power so CC gains it (up to 6).
BG recruits another cultist, this time in the North Atlantic (down to 1).
GC decides to Submerge, taking a cultist and the remaining Starspawn with him in the Dephts of the ocean (down to 2). As unlimited Action he switches control over gate, and now the Dark Demon is on top of it.
Worried CC moves a cultist from Asia and the Flying Polyp in the North Atlantic to Africa and seizes control over the gate (down to 4).
BG spends her last Power in recruiting a cultist in the Indian Ocean.
GC doesn't want to waste more time and emerges for 0 Power into Asia. He declares unlimited battle (down to 1).
GC's Devour eliminates a CC's cultist. Then CC uses Seek and Destroy to bring his second Hunting Horror to Asia.
GC rolls 9 dice with a lucky result of 3 Kills and 1 Pain. CC rolls 4 Kills and 8 Pains from his 14 dice. Everything in Asia gets killed except for Nyarlathotep and he uses his Harbinger post-battle to gain 2 ES. Nyarlathotep gets Pained to Europe.
With no choice left CC has to recruit his Dark Demon in Europe (down to 3).
GC spends his last Power to recruit a cultist in the South Atlantic.
CC is the only player with Power left so he moves his Dark Demon to Asia to gain control over the gate and recruits his both cultist from the Pool in Europe.
At last moving to Gather Power. CC controls 4 Gates, 5 cultists and a Dark Demon (13 Power). BG has 2 Gates, 2 Dark Youngs, 4 cultists and a Dark Demon (10 Power). GC controls 3 Gates, 6 cultists and a Dark Demon. Together with 3 enemy controlled gates in ocean areas he has 15 Power.
GC takes the 1st player marker and the turn order goes towards BG.
GC then gains 3 Doom, up to 8. BG gains 2 Doom, up to 14. CC gains 4 and ups to 12 Doom.
GC makes Ritual of Annihilation for 6 (down to 9 Power) and moves to 11 Doom (sadly, no ES). BG wouldn't do Ritual, but CC decides for it after a short calculation. Down to 6 Power, he gets to 16 on the Doom track and draws an ES.
    Turn 5
GC starts by Awakening Cthulhu and drawing an ES (down to 5).
BG seizes the opportunity to capture the CC's cultist in the North Pacific with her Ghoul (down to 9).
CC decides to protect his remaining gates with the mindset that the others will try to prevent his victory, so he summons a Hunting Horror in Asia (down to 6).
Back to GC, Cthulhu submerges (down to 4).
BG Awakens Shub-Niggurath in the Indian Ocean by sacrificing 2 cultists from the South Atlantic (down to 1).
Greedy CC summons a Flying Polyp in Asia (down to 1).
GC emerges for 0 Power in Asia and engages an unlimited battle there (down to 3).
    Devour eliminates the Flying Polyp.
Cthulhu hits only 2 Pains, while CC rolls 1 Pain from 14 dice. Madness pains the Dark Demon and the Hunting Horror to Africa. Sadly CC has to send Cthulhu back to ocean area and throws him directly to BG in the Indian Ocean, where is most of BG's Power.
BG doesn't care about Cthulhu in her face and summons a Ghoul in the North Atlantic for free.
CC uses the Thousand Forms and rolls a 4! The other factions have to either spend all of their Power or let CC raise his Power marker to 5. They decide not to pay anything.
GC submerges for 1 to strike againg later (down to 2).
BG recruits a cultist and gains control over the gate in the North Pacific (down to 0).
CC knows that Cthulhu will strike no matter what, so he moves Nyarlathotep and a cultist to Asia and gains control over the gate (down to 3).
GC emerges in Africa and attacks (down to 1). Devour kills the cultist on the gate. Cthulhu hits a Kill and 2 Pains. CC scores a Kill and 2 Pains with his 3 dice. Cthulhu falls in the battle. CC kills a Polyp and pains the Dark Demon and the Hunting Horror to Asia.
CC pays 1 to move the Dark Demon to Africa and seize a gate.
GC moves his long forgotten Deep One from the North Atlantic to the South Atlantic (down to 0).
CC seeks revenge for his captured cultist in the begging of the turn. With his remaining 2 Power and no one else with Power left he moves Nyarlathotep to the North Pacific and captures BG's cultist.
During Gather Power GC has 15 Power, CC has 10 Power and BG has 10 as well. Turn sequence goes to BG.
During the Doom Phase GC gains 3 Doom and performes Ritual for 8 Power (down to 7). GC goes to 17 Doom. He turns in his ES and triggers the end of the game with exactly 30 Doom (ES are 3x3, 2x1 and a 2)!
BG decides to Ritual for 9, which leaves her with 1 Power. She gains total of 4, up to 18. She draws an ES and turns 10 Points from ES (1x3, 3x2 and 2x1). She ends the game on 28 Doom.
CC has just enough Power to push the Ritual marker to Instant Death. He goes to 0 Power, but gains a total of 6 Doom, up to 22. He turns a total of 7 Doom (2x2 and 3x1) from ES before he draws his last ES from the bag. He goes to 29 Doom.
Will it end in a Draw or Crawling Chaos will prevail? I could draw one last Elder Sign from the bag and see the result, but I'll leave it for you to decide. (Although I drew it after I wrote that 😅).

As much of a Great Cthulhu fan I am, I would say Nyarlathotep is probably going to win. Just guessing that this is round 2 or 3 and Cthulhu is not out isn't good, and don't them having enough power to get him out anytime soon. Black Goat i haven't played yet so I'm unsure of what they could pull off. Nyarlathotep is hard to kill plus they have the Hunter and that thing sounds like a beast. If they can kill the bloated woman and Shubby then that faction is done for. I'm more of a combat player so that's my best guess. I have most the Cthulhu Wars coming from the Onslaught Four's kickstarter, but I'm missing the Onslaught Three stuff not included. Such as the Masks of Nyarlathotep, Dire Cthulhu, Dire Azathoth, Cacodemon, Nodens, Beyond Time and Space, Nodens, and the Alternate Faction Acolytes. i don't have the 6-8 player versions of the maps either but its really hard to find players in my area.

Judging from current positions of three fractions, I'd put my money on Nyarlathotep. "Cthulhu pilot" looks as not so experienced player, because he built a gate on land, which is contradicting to it's book acquiring requirement. If he was experienced player, he would’ve abused his submerge/unsubmerge ability for 1 power in order to be the last player, another core tactics would’ve been to attack Shub (not Nyarlathotep!) in order to get killed for ES. Let’s be honest - when Cthulhu wants to be killed - there is no death results for him(( As I see it - 2 gates wouldn’t provide him enough energy for this strategy.
Shub player also made a mistake of wetting his toes in the ocean (helping Cthulhu) and spreading across map. Next round he will have a headache protecting his GOO from both opponents, as both enemy’s GOO would have an inclination to fight with other GOOs but not with each other.
Crawling Chaos has stronger position here. Having 3 gates and his thousand forms spellbook, he definitely will last longer than his opponents grabbing 1 additional gate at the end of each round.
I didn’t mention neutral units as It is hard to understand which one belongs to who.
If my mental exercise was interesting, and I get lucky, I would be happy to win something from this list: Masks of Nyarlathotep, beyond Space & Time, Cosmic terrors, dreamlands Map or GOO pack 4 in any combination. Thanks for interesting videos!

I considered putting the colored disks on the neutral units to indicate who belonged to who, but decided to just go with whoever people thought everyone belonged to.
      Thank you!

Haunter seems nasty, although the other units seems more of support units, and to me cc needs more of punching power outside of nyarlathotep than support neutrals, what do you think?

I agree. Nyarlathotep is the scariest when he gets good results from harbinger so Haunter can be amazing, but Bloated Woman can exacerbate a problem I have with Crawling Chaos which is struggling for power. the other unit's I'd still take even if they aren't supremely well matched with Crawling Chaos just to rob people of the unit.
