- This footage from the National Geographic Archives highlights the Society's early role in feats of flight: National Geographic helped sponsor the first two of five major expeditions Richard E. Byrd led to the Antarctic. This second expedition from 1933 to 1935, footage from which we’ve included here, was scientifically a great success. In the 19 months they were on the ice, the expedition team mapped 450,000 square miles, named hundreds of new peaks in the Edsel Ford and Queen Maud ranges, made seismological soundings determining the depth of the ice sheet in many places, and collected data on oceanography, cosmic rays, meteorology, terrestrial magnetism, geophysics, and radio communications.

Ok I am 12 and I know that something is fishy about Antarctica...is it just me who thinks that? I'm doing research because...if you go on Google maps literally all the middle is covered with snow and not a single landmark.. I know it's weird, but i *know* that 21 nation's got together because of what they saw in Antarctica. Does anybody else think this or is it just me? 😕
(Edit) literally don't know how many years later- firstly I can't believe people still see this comment 😭 secondly, ye I still think something's happening in Antarctica. No I don't believe in hollow earth or lizard people. But Antarctica is a really closed off space, it's just a bit strange that you can visit even some really closed off places but not Antarctica..maybe I can go to Antarctica but I don't know how you would 🤷 also, on google earth you cns click on a few landmarks, its not all snowy, some grey stones. I'm pretty sure people live in some parts of Antarctica but not a lot. I think before I immerse myself in a conspiracy and really believe in something, I'd like to go to Antarctica myself bcs now days people are just really untrustworthy 😃👍

Byrd flew to the South Pole in November 29, 1929, on his FIRST Antarctic Expedition, not his second as depicted in this video.
Did he fly on his second one as well? And were there three trips to the antarctic in total?
They depicted it to be his second expedition and it was actually 1933 when he did his second expedition.

It would help if Mr. Byrd's relatives backed up his reporting of such a claim. Is there any evidence that proves his surviving family members were supportive of his story?
