They may say whatever they want about Dr./Pastor John MacArthur, but there is one thing that I have come to found out about him is that he is very sound on Historical and Biblical Hermeneutics, and Biblical exegesis, for me, he is the greatest Christian Apologist of the 21th Century, that is why he has become my TV Pastor considering I live in New York City, and can't attend his church, therefore, I have listen to everything he published on youtube, the brother is very inspirational about the truth.
Although I appreciate some of what was taught at the "Strange Fire Conference" much of what was "taught" was gossip and slander. The Gifts of the Holy Spirit have never ended. Although I believe many churches that exercise the "sign" gifts miss use them I KNOW God still uses the gifts when correctly exercised. You are treading on shaky ground and may be guilty of blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. It is OK to say you disagree with how the gifts are used but not to slander they way you do. There are two reasons for "signs" in the church one is for conformation of the message and the second is for the building up of the body of Christ. There are also false signs and will be until Christ returns. The passage most quoted to justify that the "sign" gifts are no longer valid in 1 Corinthians taken in context as it was written is not referring to when the Bible was completed but when we see Christ face to face either in death or when he returns. Then the gifts will no longer be needed. If the "sign" gifts are no longer valid then you must conclude that there is no longer the need for teaching, discernment, administration, giving, helps, etc... You cannot exclude a few gifts and include others. What Pastor MacArthur has been saying would not bother me as much if his words were not full of slander and gossip. If you wonder if what he is saying qualifies as this then spend some time researching the topic in Scripture. In a small group I attended in one church we had a big problem with this so I spent many hours researching it to re-affirm my beliefs that the practice needed to stop and discovered just how corrosive this type of thing can be to the Body of Christ. It also illuminated the problem in my life as well. If this type of thing is not stopped then God will step in and stop it Himself. Every word we speak we will have to give an account before God some day. PLEASE STOP not only for the sake of those who are being hurt by this but for your sake as well.

I worked 10 years in the ICU, I never say a Charismatic teacher/preacher heal anyone, no patient every got up off the bed and go home. Happy Coldwell (charismatic preacher)came to the ICU in Little Rock one night when I was working, he and his wife prayed for a man, later the man died. I'm sure if the A. Paul came to the ICU everyone would get up and go home well. As Dr MacArthur said today it's different. Have you ever seen anyone on the death bed get up and walk around healthy?
I have seen and experienced healing including my husband who had a fatal form of cancer and a woman who was healed of celliac disease. I don't believe God heals everyone but He still does heal. I have also seen miracles and believe they will increase as we get closer to Christ's return. I also know Satan can imitate these as well. There is no Biblical evidence these gifts have ceased and the passage most quoted in I Corinthians is referring to the gifts disappearing when we see Christ face to face because there will no longer be a need for any of the gifts not when the Bible cannon was completed. BUT why in over 20 + years of B.Hinn so called healing there is not one documented person truly healed, these people even claim to have risen people from the dead, None of those claiming to have the gift of healing have ever gotten a paraplegic out of a wheel chair. the gifts today are so suspect, so flimsy, read the healing in the Bible, those are miracles, today the healing takes time, partial healings, unseen healings like cancer, where is the blind suddenly seeing with perfect vision? I had a patient who had a traumatic brain injury, Yes she was healed by God, she went to rehab and over time she came back to her self. the healing in the time of the first church, that woman would have suddenly awaken from her coma and been completely whole in a matter of minutes. Yes today God heals, Go back and listen to J.MacAuthur again. the sings were for a purpose as he said, you still did not answer the Q what are the sign gifts for now? The only way you can claim that there are no current gifts are to discredit all gifts including the gift of teaching, knowledge, administration, helps, etc... In order to say that all the gifts that the people are exhibiting are not from God you mush conclude they are from Satan or made up. One more note, although I do not agree with all that IHOP teaches they mean well in their commitment to prayer. The person that is mentioned that lead the group that killed the wife of the leader was NOT a part of IHOP! He attended meetings there and tried to get into leadership there but was not included in their leadership because of problems with some of his beliefs. It would be as if someone who attended your church killed someone and everyone assumed that your church advocates the same actions. These statements are outright slander. PLEASE for your sake stop this. God will not allow this type of thing to go unpunished. I know what it is like to say things you should not about groups that hurt you or someone you love. I have seen so much church abuse it would make most people's heads spin and most people who have gone through what I have would have walked away from Christ years ago.
