Holy cow, this would be the year of the end of the R46. Those are my favorite subway cars. Maybe they would sell the parts at the end of the year at the pop up event
Well here I am thinking I was the only one here to say just that lol. Or even better, why not just donate some to most of 2- and 4-car R46 train sets over to other out of state transit museums that are looking to store and preserve them while also auctioning off some to many of the other 2- and 4-car R46 train sets for private residential or commercial uses :)
@@W.L.CustomsOnly problem with that is that they contain asbestos, so the MTA will not sell one directly for liability reasons, but museums could inquire about it once they make it to the scrap yard. The R68 and R68A cars probably do not contain asbestos, since they were manufactured in the late 1980’s, so the MTA will probably be willing to sell those when they retire.
@@JillianLatorreTSWhat? How long have subway cars contained asbestos? I mean I would hope the new techs don’t have any but when did manufacturers stop?
@camacakegd3714 Any subway cars built before 1978 has asbestos, because that is when regulations were updated in buildings and other applications. Which translates to the R46 being the newest subway cars to contain it.
RIP to the R46! You have served this city diligently and with might! The stories you can tell is unprecedented and appreciated! You will be missed old friend
Gonna miss those cars. The first time I ever ride on the r46s is when Jamaica lines had them on E, F, G lines but the most one I rode on the first time was when the V line existed before the M line took over that line. R46 V train was the best fit for the V line. And to remind y’all these cars are the last cars to have GE propulsion for the b division which means this is the end of GE rebuild cars for the b division. The only line that have the same propulsion of the r46 is r62 on 3 train line of the A division.
Nooo I didn't think it was so soon already. I just left New York City after visiting my grandma. I'm NOW back in the Caribbean and you're saying they have already begun retiring some. At least I got some videos of them. They were my favourite kind. The first time I came New York City in 2015, they were the first I rode on. They eventually became my favourite. I will miss them but I know they're very old now and need to be retired.
Throwback to the 70s with the smut on them. Mixed feelings on seeing them go; good and bad memories. But alas, progress. We should see new trains on the Q by 2055.... however their history is something. They bankrupted Pullman Standard with the cracking trucks (just at the cusp of the Crotch administration) but became solid workhorses after the Morrison Knudson rebuild(more like redesign); converted to 4 car sets from married pairs, LCD signs and electrical improvements....
The Q train getting new technology trains will be decades more earlier than that year 2055, as the 2- and 4-car R46 train sets are already overdue for replacements now
@W.L.Customs I was being sarcastic, but it will take a very long time for NTTs to come the way of the N/Q. Remember they took the R160s from us for the bottomless pit F CBTC project. The N Q are low priority and MTA has no respect for is....
Not yet exactly they still have to wait for the CBTC testing to be completed from the R179’s on Queens Blvd they also have to wait for all the R46’s to be removed from service
This is gonna be a very sad and unbearable but memorial day to witness in the history of New York City and State, as well as the U.S. itself. God bless the 2- and 4-car R46 train sets and long live the legendary R46 train fleet. They’ve served us well for quite a long time now for a rolling stock equipment being 47 to 50 years of age and shall be known as the grandfather of the OTTs 🙌🏻🙏🏻🫡

They'll always live on in the transit museum for train runs so they won't be fully gone

That first locomotive (numbered 50) is an R37, which is a custom GE 45 ton locomotive. That locomotive was built in between the R32’s and the R38’s.
I think that R38 locomotive was put in service in the early 2010s, if I’m not mistaken.

Trust me they’ll be back sooner than you think
This officially means that the 8th avenue line is fully CBTC equipped!
Not necessarily "fully CBTC equipped" but rather that the days of the 8th Avenue corridor being "fully CBTC equipped" will soon begin
@@W.L.Customs CBTC bottomless pit of a project will take forever. But all new trains will be configured for it tho.

I believe some other R46s were retired as more R211s enter service
Excellent Video in the Bronx East Tremont station
Is this the beginning of retiring the R46s?
Yes it is. The base order of the R211A is almost complete therefore the Pitkin r46s are being discomissioned from passenger service
@nycfanplaneguy9446 Got it. Thanks for the information. Even though I hate to see the R46s retiring, but it is what it is.
A moment of silence for the r46
Are they preserving any? If so, I hope they use them for heritage use.
Saddest anime deaths of all time
Rest In Peace, 6138-6141.
You have served our subway system very well in your lifetime.

Oh hell nah now is definitely time for me to go new york to get the r46s since i did get the to record the r42 or r32
No! The R46 was my favorite old-school fleet!
So this is the first group of R46 to be taken out of system
More like the 2nd, I remember the r46 in the accident in 2020 got towed away aswell
@ yes but it is not the whole set of trains
Yes. Somehow, ahead of the 4-8 cars that got wrecked in accidents.
@@mtattrain2 I’m kinda surprised that 6062 and/or 6150-6151 (damaged in accidents) were not the first cars to be taken off property for scrapping.
Holy shit it’s beginning.
How many R46s are going to get rid of?
Imagine hitching a ride on one of those lol

The R46 Subway Cars Going On The Scrapping Process Mode Anyways Already?!:-\
I miss the R32 rather than these R46. Good riddance lol. I’m glad I don’t have to deal with them on the R!!!
Now theres less R46s
Or Staten Island😂
